the trendyhungercafe & brasserie, located in the swanky ceylan karavil park, is something of a revelation – international cuisine with a turkish twist. i really liked the funky décor and the liveliness of the place – it has a distinct vibe, a buzz. and, one quick look around the absolutely packed restaurant, it also seems to be very much of an ‘in’ place, a hangout for the upper-middle class. great music too.
hunger is not just a pretty face, the food is really good too. i started with a half portion of piping hot acili eksili corba, basically their take on hot & sour soup. it was deliciously tangy, with enough heat to tickle but not kick – nice. for our mains we ordered thehungermangalda which is two skewers of bite sized, super succulent lamb kebabs served on top of a cool little charcoal barbeque – it was must-try excellent. we also had one of their specialities, the hellim steak which is halloumi cheese wrapped in thin slices of veal and grilled – what a beautiful combination.
service was all smiles, quick and efficient. prices are a little higher than in town but you expect that. all in all an excellent experience. i have no reservations in wholeheartedly recommending this trendy restaurant.
