best sandwiches in lancaster co. i have stopped at thomas campus grille (formerly thomas campus deli) several times over the past couple of years, and it is in my opinion the best sandwich shop in the county. originally being from the new york area, i have found the lack of quality italian-style subs in this area to be especially frustrating. thankfully i stumbled across thomas' one day, and found a glimmer of hope in the sea of lancaster county's bologna and american cheese laden "italian subs." their menu features an array of unique, high quality sub sandwiches that use a variety of proper italian ingredients such as fresh mozzarella (!), cappacollo, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, fresh basil, and balsamic vinaigrettes. all of their sandwiches are appropriately named after locations in the new york city area (don't worry, the cheesesteaks are named for philly!). i recommend the staten island which features prosciutto, hot cappacollo, hot sopressata, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, and vinaigrette. last time i was there i decided to try one of their regular cheese steaks -- onions, no sauce (who decided to add sauce in lancaster anyway?). i am normally not a cheesesteak person, but this one was far better than any i've tried in this area as they use fresh-cut ribeye as opposed to the greasy pre-cut 'steaks' used by most establishments. the difference is night and day. the menu also features a variety of burgers, wraps, regular hoagies, and salads. i recommend trying the hollywood salad, which features romaine lettuce, grilled chicken breast, dried cranberries, goat cheese, and poppyseed dressing -- when i tried this one, i asked them if they could put this onto a sub, which they were glad to accommodate. it was delicious, with a bold combination of flavors. i have yet to find a place in lancaster that makes better sandwiches. if you know of any, be sure to let me know! in the meantime, give thomas campus grille a try.

bummed out. they reduced their menu to 1/3 of what they used to have. it is no longer special...just mediocre.

good sandwiches, but.... first, columnist dave barry would say that the campus grille owes tax on the unnecessary and incorrect "e" at the end of its name. a grill is for cooking; a grille is found on the front of an automobile.
the campus grill has lots of great sandwiches and burgers, and is a pleasant place to sit and write a review if you use the free wi-fi. the south street is like a cheesesteak on steroids, and the burgers are a good option too.
however, the service varies widely, depending who is behind the counter. today i got the same employee i had a few weeks ago. she knew nothing about the menu then, and hasn't learned anything since. many of the sandwiches have descriptions posted. however, not all of them do, and when i needed information to order today i had to push her even to ask somebody what goes on a california burger. my meal arrived without the drink, and when i asked she said i hadn't ordered one. i had; she just didn't get the order right.
and finally, if you're american and eat ketchup on anything, good luck getting a condiment cup. i asked, and she held tightly onto the stack so i could get only one very small paper container. i made four (4) trips to the ketchup nozzle as a result.
do yourself a favor, take the food home and use your own condiments. and check your order before you leave.

disappointing. this restaurant has a new name and new look, but i wasn't impressed with the food. my friend and i ordered a cheesesteak, but it was full of gristle to the point where we stopped eating it. it certainly wasn't even in the same ballpark as a true philly cheesesteak, even though they advertised it as such. the service was not bad, but you just can't make up for poor quality food.
