the golf tavern

such a lovely place... wonderful pub scene... we were here on a thursday and they had live music after 9pm... people were chatting and laughing and merrying around... i will go again... tried the lager and loved it.

our friends suggested we meet here and this was my first visit. nice little pub in the heart of bruntsfield.

food was delicious and presented in a lovely way on wooden boards (although personally i don’t like eating a main meal off a woden board!) the bill was more than we were expected £120 for 4 - we had 4 mains, 2 starters, 2 puddings and some beer and the portions were quite small for the price.

waitress service for food and drink at our little booth was a great touch and we had excellent service.

the only thing i would say is that we wanted to chat and the place was very busy (sunday night) with students which made it quite noisy.

this is the first time i have online reviewed a place because of this terrible experience! i booked a table to watch the rugby and was told that wasn't an issue if we were going to be there for a long time. i did it over the phone and was told it was a £50 deposit for the table and if i want i can use that to pay my bar bill. whilst there the service was great and the bar staff were very friendly. my 10 friends and i probably spent over £500 over the 5 hours there. we paid separately as to avoid the complication of dividing the complicated bill later. when we decided to leave i spoke to the manager to get my deposit back. apparently it wasn't a deposit but a charge! even though we had spent over ten times the amount we had paid for the so called 'deposit' she wouldn't let us have the £50 back. she was rude and refused to let me have my 'deposit' back. when booking the table she said we would have a great view of the game but in fact half our table was turned around on a bench and the rest had to look between people's heads. the manager was rude and i nor my friends would ever go there again!! if you want to get somewhere to watch sport then go anywhere else!!!!!

reasonable drinks (especially with the student discount) and good food. great pub atmosphere during any sporting event. i think they also use the top floor for private parties.

it's down the road so it's kind of a local haunt. they have a pub quiz every wednesday with cash prizes.

hopefully it shows cricket during the world cup, the indian in my can't be suppressed. ;)

so far, every dish i've tried at this place has been great. i once went a little early on a week night and they had a 10 quid two course meal thing which was amazing value and flavour.

go for the relaxed atmosphere and drinks, not for the food! my husband and i ate here wanting just the normal pub grub abc were given lukewarm, tough, unseasoned food which wasn't cheap either.

after reading great reviews and seeing that this place wasn't too expensive we wandered over to have dinner and a drink. we ended up staying for several drinks as we had such a lovely server and the food/drinks were phenomenal. patricia was extremely helpful when trying to choose which scotch to drink - taking the time to explain each one and bringing over different bottles for us to smell etc. i am not sure if this is common practice in scotland but as a canadian we were blown away. at the end of the day our bill was around £50 for dinner, dessert and about 6 drinks. couldn't recommend this place more!

this is a lovely pub tucked away from the main road.  the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.  it's nice and cosy especially for a wet, cold winter day. it has a nice old style pub interior that means you can wile away the hours in here quite comfortably.  

while we did not eat anything the table next to us did and they were raving about the food.  we stuck to our liquid lunch though.  a decent range of beers on tap.
