delicious and authentic food!. i love the dhaba! the service, ambiance, the food is very delicious. it's a food and place that makes you feel closer to india and its culture. i pretty much take all my friends there all the time and my friends second my opinions about thedhabatoo. especially their garlic naan, bhindi masala, shahi paneer, chaat is out of this world. its definitely one of my favorite places and i recommend it to everyone!

awesome food and amazing experience. i am writing this review after visiting thedhabaoften for the last year or so. usually all the indian restaurants start well but then their food quality and customer service starts going down...but i am pleasantly surprised to say that thedhabastill maintains the food quality and the friendliness.

since they started i have been pretty impressed with what they have done with a small area. the ambiance is welcoming and the heavy copper plates and bowls and glasses remind me of the authentic indian style.

i would definitely recommend thedhabato everyone and i am sure when you go there once, you will keep going...

this punjabi is a must have!  by far best indian (punjab) cuisine my wife
and i have encountered in the valley of the sun!  taking advantage of restaurant week, we were
able to thoroughly enjoy a both esthetic and flavorful, if not flamboyant trip
to india within the dhaba’s culinary and décor environment!  the moment you arrive, you are struck by
their museum-like front displaying glass encased ornaments, clothing and more
such as kurtis with phulkari – and exhibited are indian auto rickshaws showing
both incredible intricate hand-made design and real wear!  and, the as you enter the front door, you set
foot into a very traditional and very authentic environment seeming to take you
back in time to raj also known as the british india period!  keep in mind this area of the world dates its
heritage and cuisine to the indus valley civilization (dating as far back as
1900 bce).  this northern indian cuisine
which boasts pakistani influences (pakistan borders punjab) drives its
influence in their incredible foods.  both
my wife and i enjoyed everything we tried, quite a bit.  the prices are very reasonable, considering
the hefty portions they dish (which in many instances will require boxes for
take-home!), and the quality and adherence to authenticity the dhaba
offers.  regarding the food, starting
with my wife’s white wine and i a large bottle of taj mahal beer, we then took
the opportunity to try starting with their: samosa plate (very refreshing and
unique salad), freshly baked naan bread; my wife had the cashmiri chicken tikka
masala (chicken breast marinated in traditional spices and yogurt and prepared
in a tandoori) while i had the exquisite and tender rendition of the lamb curry
(lamb cubes withdhabaspices) we finished off with deserts of badami kheer a
wonderful indian rice pudding, and i had the gulab gamun (spongy milky balls in
rose syrup!  as i mentioned, by far the
best we’ve had in the area.  highly
recommended to aficionádos and newbies to punjab alike!  great
atmosphere, attention, service, price and quality... a very enjoyable
experience - we'll be back!  bon appétit from gástro ecléctico.

really thankful for this gem in the desert.  i loved the food, the intimate environment, and great service.  our meal started with a fresh salad with a fragrant fruit salad dressing.  for our entrée we had the lamb vindaloo with medium spice and my wife had the chicken tikka masala.  along with the entrées came the basmati rice and garlic naan.  the meal was delicious and filling.  it doesn't look like a lot of food at first, but the dish sizes are deceiving.  to finish off the meal was a rice pudding which cleaned the palate, and was amazing.  overall, the dhaba is the best indian restaurant in az.  i loved it and highly recommend it.

the finest in punjabi cuisine from india. hidden in the india plaza on apache blvd. just east of mcclintock rd, is the dhaba, a true gem that provides a warm and cozy atmosphere. the decor is quite appealing and the lighting is just right. the aroma of india spices fills the air and sets the stage for the anticipation of authentic meal. we were not disappointed. the servers are knowledgeable and attentive, the food was excellent but the forefront was the plate ware and presentation of the entrees. excellent food on expensive plating makes for an awesome combination. i highly recommend thedhabaas the choice to make for authentic punjabi cuisine! oh, and if you want to take home authentic imported spices, the market just next door has it all.....

rainy evening in phoenix with a delightful mix. i came to phoenix, az for 6 nights only. it was raining from last night for some odd reason.. generally rain and phoenix are not like the curry mix.
i happened to go with 6 of my colleagues to thedhabain tempe, about 25 miles southeast of where we stayed..
soon after we sat down beside a punjabi curtain segregating seven of us from the "dulhanias" (brides) we started munching on papadams, touching the spice tray with every crunch. it was surely a nice start and we all were happy with that beginning plus added some delicious mixed thali as appetizers.
then came the poultry farm and the vegetable garden selection and somewhat forgotten, kingfisher(imported beer) and other similar birds/bottles of prey. sure enough the hunters spared no time to grab these birds/bottles and were lucky to have enough kingfishers, maybe because of the rain and water all around phoenix.

then came the time for the main courses - maharaja thali, began bharta, sharabi gosht (lamb and spinach) and nan. i am fond of green chillies (hari mirch), so asked for green chillies and onions mixed condiment on the side.
the food was !!!!! hard to explain. if i say delicious... it could be an understatement. it was colorful, tasty, variety of flavors, and very satisfying. a couple of us carried the leftover in a carry box. i finished my dish.. we all had a nice touch of delight with chai (tea) as the philharmonic ending for the great dinner, maharaja style.
well, i guess that tells you the most about it. however, the cost goes with the quality and adds up when you add imported beverages, which we did. so, our bottom line was a little bit higher than it would normally be if we just ate the dinner with plain water, which they serve free.
try it out and see!!!! maybe you will find it awesome too.

this resturant introduced me to my first tast of indian food i had ever had and it was a fantastic experience. the curry was my favorite dish i had it was very spicy robust flavor that was enjoyable. the dish also had an earthy flavor to it that added to the authenticty of the meal. i would definatly recommend thedhabato anyone who wants and exotic change from the norm.

best indian food in the valley!!!!. we have been to thedhabamany many times. unlike most indian restaurants in the valley thedhabahas excellent atmosphere. you can see that the owners & chef have pride in ownership as the restaurant is always sparkling and fresh. the decor is tastefully done in a modern way while also making you feel like you were sitting in a eatery in india itself!! thedhabaplays an excellent mix of traditional and modern indian music and even has a nice hdtv that they sometimes play cultural movies and even music videos!!

the food and service at thedhabaare second to none!!! everything is fresh and made to order, the meats are of high quality and well trimmed, the flavors are rich and authentic!! the chef has no problem making special orders for you if they are not on the menu themselves. (* i like chiken korma and only vegitable korma is listed on their menu.*) unlike other indian places we have been in the valley, everything we have tried is excellent!!! there is also an excellent selection for vegetarians.

the staff at thedhabaare very warm and friendly. in addition to their friendliness, the staff are also very knowledgeable. if you are un-seasoned in indian cuisine rest assure they will be able to help you select something sure to tickle you taste buds!!!

we highly recommend everyone give this little place a try, you certainly will not regret it!!!
