the dark chocolatier - noosa chocolate factory

this is by far the nicest dark chocolate i have ever had. the self serve aspect is wonderful, as you don't have to just buy a pack and pick out the bits you don't like. it's a very natural looking shop with lots of light timber, and the music is always good, it's got nice vibes to sit and have a coffee. best dark chocolate goji berries on the planet!

ok, it's not exactly super hidden but you don't generally associate 'best chocolate ever' with 'delicious coffee'. the dark chocolatier on adelaide st is one of the locations for the noosa chocolate factory and walking in to the tiny shop, you will be hit with the sweet scent of chocolate and faced with trays of chocolate covered goodness and bags of the best rocky road ever. be strong, look straight ahead and slightly up to see their coffee, mocha and hot chocolate menu.

dark chocolate!. love their dark chocolate, especially 73% dark choc coated pistachios. dark choc coated honey combs, dark choc coated freeze dried strawberries are nice too. their brownies are too die for and chilli hot chocolate is divine. not a fan of their coffee though and wish they used bonsoy instead of vitasoy.

delicious!. i love their chocolate - the chocolate covered macadamias are amazing! a great place to visit for gifts, or some more unusual chocolates.

the very best. ordered a dark cacao hot chocolate (~75% cocoa content) and it is by far the best hot chocolate i've had. from that first intense cocoa hit on the first sip to the clotted clumps of melted chocolate at the end, it is something special. similar to a lindt dark hot chocolate but less of a sugar hit. they actually use high quality chocolate which puts them ahead of 99% of the hot chocolates made with powder at the various cafes around brisbane and further afield.

so decadent that i'm still recovering from a chocolate coma two hours later.

the dark chocolatier - brisbane cbd. there are two stores of this place on the same street; one of them has elements of a cafe. with this cafe, on top of selling all sorts of chocolate-covered items (from goji berries to honeycomb) they specialise in a proper hot chocolate made from actual melted chocolate; the variety - while still countable on two hands - is unlike what i am used to seeing around the place. as expected, they also do some fantastic coffee.

it was a sunday, and that means that a lot of businesses are closed. scouting for a place to grab a cup of coffee before heading off to collaborate on an assignment this place looked very promising. i was far from the only one who had a similar thought pattern; several folk were spill through the door - mostly to purchase the chocolate items.there is literally a wall to choose from here with many consistencies of chocolate - up to 73%. facing that wall is a bench if you so choose to eat there; they have a tasting plate option which is always good for the finicky.

often the trusty keepcup adds up to being an equivocal large, however this time around it was a bit bigger than the large (which the majority of the time is one in the same to a double-shot - my go-to order for testing coffee out). for no charge (a bonus: soy, decaf and extra shots do not add to the price) i was upped to a triple-shot. i was in for one hell of a good cappuccino and it delivered. these are some damned talented and friendly baristas.

on the counter, there were some brownies which looked good and i decided to get one. these were made with proper chocolate and given the same amount of care. it is difficult to describe just how good it was - there were the elements of sweet there along with the natural flavour of chocolate. however, unlike a lot of the specialised brownies that can be found in classy restaurants this one was not overtly rich.

also on the counter was a sample plate - sour cherry. before getting to my order (i was awaiting it), i tried a bit and it was all i needed to be optimistic for what was to come and to recommend the place to any chocolate fans that i know.

it is inevitable that i will come here eventually to try one of their hot chocolates. some of them sound too innovative for me to give a pass.

it was the best hot chocolate i've ever had. i could've easily had half of this with t., and we'd have both been satisfied by the end of it. due to high quality of the chocolate used, this drink was incredibly rich and sweet. i shudder to think what their much sweeter milk chocolate would taste like and i love sweet drinks. i've had larger quantities of hot chocolate before, say at max brenner or at starbucks or something, but due to way its made, i could not match it drink by drink. i feel toasty warm after having a few sips, and it was also at that perfect temperature where you have to cautiously sip to have some of your drink. we were there for almost half an hour, drinking and chatting before we pulled off the lids to see how far we had gotten. both of us had barely gone down by half a cup.

dark chocolate/milk chocolate covered honeycomb, goji berries, strawberries, almonds, slabs of dark chocolate hazelnut, rocky road, licorice bullets... the list goes on! it's so crazy that you can buy slabs in bulk or in loose packets or choose from what's there and pay by bucket!   what else to compliment chocolate than with coffee? this place serves fonzie abbott coffee, if you haven't tried coffee from them already, they're pretty ace. other than having ace coffee beans & chocolate, the hot chocolate from here is worth a mention and try if you haven't already. there is a variation in how you want your hot chocolate  - which i find pretty amazing, choose from milk or dark or even turkish delight (and other flavours which i can't remember!), as well as choosing the % of chocolate in there! the only place i've had the same/near encounter is in melbourne!  this isn't our first visit here - i've been here to get a few packaged

it's just wonderful!. too wonderful for words - lovely lovely chocolate - i go into the city just to buy!

i thought the dark chocolatier is a nice little chocolate shop and coffee stop. whilst a chocolate tasting platter might be overkill for one person, it's a good way to try what they have on offer.
