chef and entrepreneur michael schwartz is a stickler on doing everything right. so when hiscypressroom opened in the design district and it wasn’t the big success he had planned on (the figurative bar was very high), he decided to retool it  into a more casual atmosphere in keeping with its name ‘tavern”, along with a lower priced menu, and brasserie type fare.  we went there in the former iteration and, as you may remember, named its burger one of the top three in miami, and decided to check out the “new”cypresstavern, 3620 n.e. 2nd avenue (t.305-520-5197). his right hand and brand director, jackie sayet, calls it an “approachable, elevated dining experience” with which you’ll see i agree.

love the "bonnie and clyde" drink!. wow. this drink will absolutely transport you to france. it is made with hendrivks gin, solerno blood orange and cocchi americano. just to sit at their bar and have this drink would make for a perfect afternoon or after work/relax after work. of course this restaurant is from the set of michael's genuine gang and it shows. if you want to escape from miami for a few hours and feel like you are in paris, stop at thecypressroom to disconnect with amazing cuisine and expertly crafted drinks.

cozy environment with great food. the braised antelope topped with baby turnips, apricot and mizuna was a combination of complimenting flavors. the sweet apricot and spicy, pepperiness of the mizuna embellished the antelope which was cooked to perfection.

best fine dining in miami. thecypressroom is like nothing you've ever seen in miami. it has a lovely old florida vibe (music, decor...) with phenomenal food to match. the tasting menu is definitely the way to go if it's your first time at this restaurant.

romantic, intimate, fantastic!. a 1920’s setting with an unusual masculine and feminine balance. the walls are covered in lovely delicate wall paper wile contrasting with the wood paneling and beautiful chrystal chandeliers give an intimate and romantic atmosphere while comfortable and cozy. the menu starts in a lighter note and gets more substantial and rich. i had the pleasure to go with friends so we had the tasting menu. our sever steven was a true gentleman guiding us through our culinary expedition. from the crudo, royal red shrimp, cobia calabaza faro, the filet with grilled zucchini and bone morrow butter, to the raspberry sorbet, cypressroom is a must visit!

not a favorite. michaels is our favorite restaurant. we decided to trycypressroom enticed by the miami spice menu. the space is small and intimate, and the service was great. at $222 for two, even with spice, we didn't think it was worth it. all at our table enjoyed the appetizer selections. entrees were less successful. a veal roll up was mostly fat, and the swordfish was too salty. dessert of lemon napoleon was tart and tasty. wine and drinks are very expensive. (port $20 per glass, wine bottle $92). considering everything, we are glad we tried it, but don't have a desire to return.

michael schwartz the james beard award-winning chef and the king of miami cuisine has added another jewel to his growing empire with the recent addition of  thecypressroom . michael's cooking talent has been no secret to locals dating back to his days behind the stove at nemo.  but who knew he was a savvy businessman as well? with the opening of thecypressroom, his fourth restaurant not including 150 central park on the oasis of the seas and allure of the seas cruise ships, the upcoming restaurant at  the raleigh hotel and a future spot at the upcoming  sls hotel in downtown miami, will a james beard award for restaurateur of the year be far behind? i think not. thecypressroom opened last week around the block from michael's fantastic flagship restaurant  michael's genuine food & drink in the booming design district section of miami. i know some people avoid going to new restaurants during their opening week.  that's nonsense when you are dealing with the a team dream team .  the
