agreatplace to lounge on the high-columned front veranda watching the trolleys zip by. the food was ok, but the service was incredibly slow.

cocktails.greatplace for an afternoon cocktail, not many people know about this spot but it offers agreatatmosphere for a busy cocktail hour. a spot on the porch is hard to come by, but worth the wait. with the huge oak trees and white columns, one instantly is transported to another time and captivated by the beautiful old south surroundings.

amazing bar..... without question...this is one of the best bars that i have ever been to. this is coming from a guy who has worked at bars and patronized bars all across the country for years. sitting out on the patio for happy hour is a time-honored tradition. when the weather is nice, and you can see people and streetcars moving along st. charles, it's tough to beat.

the food is just ok. they recently moved to a "higher level" of cooking and i haven't eaten there since. the chicken tenders that they used to serve from the bar menu weregreatand not that much $$. sadly, they don't have them anymore.....

come for the drinks/atmosphere. i have never had the food (other than the free red beans and rice at happy hour); but it is probably my favorite bar in new orleans. the porch is very relaxing with a nice view of st. charles and the inside is very historical with old school furniture decor, etc. the staff has always beengreatwhen i have been.

good drink, greatsetting, so so food, slow. breakfast daily 7-10am, sunday jazz brunch 11am-3pm, dinner mon-sat 5-10pm. owned by jacques creppel. elegant setting (amazing wood work, fireplaces, windows, in this 1883 mansion), good bar. esquire magazine's top 100 bars in america. http://www.thecolumns.com/tour.htm slow, slow service at night, esp. on the porch. crab and rock lobster stuffed fried mushrooms -- decent. 10/09.
