mikew@xplornetaustin. my wife and i, have now been to this restaurnat 4 times, and have never been disappointed. the previous restaurant(s) in this location have not done well. problems with parking, pricing, lack of consistency, poor staff etc. well i am pleased to say that thebyronfreehouse has corrected 3 out of the 4 major problems with this location. the menu is varied from burgers to ribeye steaks, we've had the ribeye twice now, and highly recommend it..... in fact we fought over the leftovers this morning. when you order a steak medium rare, you want your steak medium rare..... as we have ordered this twice each time the steak was exactly medium rare, tender and deliously seasoned. no need to reach for the salt and pepper here. the beans and baby squash were crisped and perfectly done..... the whole meal was delicous and from a consistency point of view that's 2 for 2 or if one is doing the math, thats 4 ribeyes perfectly cooked on 2 separte occasions. the staff was friendly and attentive and the owner (cathy) reconginzed our reservation from previous visits and came and greeted us personally at our table..... now that's what i call proactive service... the menu is interesting from finger foods to steaks, and the quality of the food is a+, well aged beef, delious butter milk chicken, spicy korean wings etc. and of course the standards, burgers, fries, pasta etc. the portions are large and the pricing is reasonable to high end depending on what your tastes are...... my wife and i have shared desserts twice and i have to say the banana bread pudding is something you should share or you'd better be really hungry because it was a meal in it's own right. the pecan pie tart was okay but i thought the crust could have been better..... this is something i shared with the waiter (mark) so hopefully it is something they tweak in the future.....so parking aside, if you want to catch a burger and some beers with the boys or have a lovely sit down dinner with that someone special in your life, i recommend you give the bryon freehouse a try.....
