the savera hotel
in a town as renowned for its thrift as chennai, the brew room is a sure sign of the changing times. simply put, this place could not have survived its 6 month lease even half a generation ago. yet today it thrives.

this is a cafe's cafe. everything- the cutesy decor, the generally indifferent service, the very average food, the pricing that cannot justify this food- is pure modern day cafe. the reality is this is not a place to go to for good food. this is a place to go to when you are lucky enough to have time to spare, and the money spent is better considered rent for the space than actual price for food and service.

if a small fraction of the care taken with the ambiance had been taken with the food, this would have been spectacular. as it is now, its a great place for people who like to sit and take pictures of themselves in pretty and well maintained surroundings.

the savera hotel
this place has become more of a weekend hangout spot. we invariably land up here almost every other saturday either for beverages or cakes. this is an account based on those multiple experiences.

location - the savera hotel on radhakrishna salai is a famous property. brew room is towards the left as you enter into savera.

ambience - stone steps right in the middle of the garden lead up to the huge white wooden door with transparent glass. tables and chairs kept outside are such that add a touch of class to the seating area in the garden. step inside and you're into a room with wooden chairs and tables of various sizes. all the tables have a centre cut out storage area where roasted coffee beans are kept. beyond a certain point in the room is the counter where the cakes are kept on display. huge mirrors which are hung inclined at an angle give out an entire picture of the cafe at any given point of time.

staff and service - friendly and gentle, always. be it any sort of complaint or a request, they are ready to take it up with utmost seriousness and care.

food and menu - beverages, cakes, pastas, sandwiches and salads is what you can treat yourself with once here.

i've tried out various cakes with my pick being eggless choco cake with toffee purely because of the thickness of the layer of chocolate.

thai cold coffee is a regular order because of the consistency of their condensed milk and no over dosage of sugar.

hot chocolate, old fashioned chocolate cake, cappuccino, irish cream cold coffee, almond apricots biscottis and one of their breads which had been served with butter are the other items on their menu i've tried and are worth a shot at.

slightly expensive inclusive of taxes but definitely one of the better cafe-cum-coffee shops which can be frequented more often that not.
