enchilada special. really liked the chili in this place until i had lunch with a group from work. a co-worker had ordered the enchilada special and it was taking some time to be served. when we asked the server what the delay was, she told us "sorry about that, our microwave is not working properly. we'll have it out as soon as we get it warm." draw your own conclusions from this.

i walked in and immediately thought “this is the kind of place where you have to drink beer.” my thoughts were confirmed by the revulsion in a waiters voice, when he called out to the bartender one diner’s order of chardonnay. (chardonnay and chili sounds awful, anyway).

chili mac n cheese with brisket!. i visit austin frequently and always go to texas chili parlor. it's right by ut. they put brisket in pretty much anything. i got the chili macaroni and cheese with the most tender and flavorful brisket i've ever had. my friend got the gumbo and it was awesome too, a little bit too spicy though.
a must try if you're in the austin area!
it is a hole in the wall bar that you wouldn't think would have good food. i rarely drink when i go there. i just eat the great food.

amazing chili. wife got the mild on frito pie & i had the chilicheese burger w- the spicy (xx) version and it was perfect!

hasn't changed one bit in 30 years. thank gawd! frieda's enchiladas still great. had a very good waitress. one of my favorites.

perfect. everything you'd expect it to be. perfect location. perfect atmosphere. perfect service. perfect chili with big meaty chunks in there. don't be scared of the xxx -- it's excellent. but so is the xx if you are.

delicious!. loved the comfortable feel of this place. went with a group of 5, we all loved our food. great selection of mexican related dishes, as well as burgers etc. made me want to move to austin!

in all my time living in austin, i had never been to the texas chili parlor. they are supposed to have one of the hottest bowls of chili in town, so we decided to go their to satisfy my need for heat. i enjoyed the meal completely, from the laid back vibe to the friendly waitresses, but am sad to say that i did not find the chili particularly spicy. the waitress was incredibly impressed that i was eating the xxx without flinching, perhaps it just wasn't that spicy of a batch that day? regardless, it was still a great meal. 0 comments:

service was excellent. this was my first time to tcp. place was packed and we barely could fit in the door. had to wait about 10 minutes for a table and started a glass of wine at the bar.

service was quick and efficient. chili was a excellent. i'll be back for sure.

good texas chili. i got it spicy and liked it. big chunks of stew beef instead of ground beef. assume that's the texas way. will try gumbo next time.

a true austin dive with not very good service but really great chili. slow down, have a beer and take your time - you have to.

never greeted, even after waiting 10 mins at the table a very unpleasantly virtually silent server came by and belted out "do you know what you want?". chili was good but watching the server look at our table then set crackers down on an empty table was unforgiveable. drinks went unfilled and no one noticed us leave just as no one cared when we arrived. i've had almost every position in the restaurant industry from dishwasher to assistant mgr and this is exactly how poor staff can ruin a place.
