poor customer service. we decided to come to this cafe on a thursday afternoon (4:40 pm) and we had been planning on it for a while since it had such good reviews. my friend said last time she came she didn’t need a reservation so we showed up in a group of 4. there were seats open all over the cafe; indoor and outdoor. the lady at the reception said we cannot be seated anywhere because all the spots are reserved. i told her we would not sit for long and would be okay with a single seat in an area where an employee had been eating. she said that section is closed. i have been to cafes all around the world and never been told to leave when almost every single table was open. this just shows how much value the cafe puts on their customers. no matter how well known your service is, you need to treat every customer as if you just opened your spot (business 101). if there is a reservation policy please put it as a description for your service. my friends and i decided to never come back to it and will be telling our networks as well.

great crew, design, layout and the food is excellent! a fun place to meet freinds for coffee or really good tea!. a beta test site of a great shopping experience in the future that is here now! be amazed, take out your camera or smartphone and take pictures here! you will probably go away with 1,2, or 3 really nice design ideas. stop in the cafe and have some really well made coffee, tea french fries, and deserts! this is what starbucks claims to be but misses the bulls-eye.... wifi and leave with the feeling you have been with nature and actually you have! the staff is pure first class!

a recent event at terrain brought together farmers, foodies and local food purveyors to kick off the spring season and to introduce the garden café’s new executive chef, jared frazer, to the westport dining scene.

the introduction of the new chef is good news to fans of terrain who previously gave mixed reviews to garden café’s food. after a few lunches and the recent spring dinner party, it’s clear that chef frazer has a firm grip on the farm-to-table concept, recently completing a stint as sous chef at terrain’s glen mills flagship café. he brings over 13 years of culinary experience including executive chef and chef de cuisine at supper in philadelphia and perry’s in washington, dc.

the setting was lovely, but the service very poor. needed to get to westport playhouse by 8 and arrived 20 minutes late. waitress said she forgot about the time. the wine was excellent. my friend's fillet was great, but my duck so, so. very small portion and the leeks were barely cooked.

add terrain for your "go to list westport". great suggestion of wine from our waiter, the hain chardonnay, great scallops, lobster and steak. one thing i love is i've never had a bad "personnel" issue w/ terrain. the staff is superb, the food excellent and by the way very quick in case you have a show ....

bring your wallet!. went here for brunch with 2 friends. i had a mimosa that was very good and my friend really enjoyed her blood mary. the bread is fresh baked in a terra cotta plant pot and comes out hot and very good. i had the chicken and waffles and both were very good but i have to admit for $18.00 they could have given another piece of chicken. 1 leg and 2 waffles. what they gave me was a leg and thigh that was very small, i would have been embarassed to serve such a small portion if i had company over.it came with 2 waffles that were orange scented and very light. i'm not a big eater by no means either. the burgers looked really good, they were much bigger than my chicken portion that my friend could not finish it. another friend had the croque madam and she enjoyed that. we passed on deseert as there wasn;t anything that excited us. i did not see the final bill because my friends treated. i wouldn't mind going back for dinner either and i would hope for the amount of money they charge you would get a little bigger portion.

terrain’s cafe is filling a need in westport. ingredients-driven, thoughtful, well cooked food served in a serene setting--there isn’t enough of it here. service is friendly but polished, and dishes exit steadily from the kitchen. the downsides? parking spaces are precious (complimentary valet parking is also available) and at lunchtime terrain gets busy. the restaurant spills out into an outdoor cafe, but when the weather turns, the cafe’s capacity will be cut in half. and finally, the bill. it comes tucked in a pocket-sized field guide which is precious until you see it. prepare for sticker shock. though locally sourced and worthy, this food comes at a cost. even at lunch, entrees top out at $24. (a glance at the dinner menu revealed a $41. lamb dish.) regardless, terrain’s cafe is absolutely worth a visit not only for the atmosphere, but to experience what new ideas chef wolfson will bring to the table with him next.

the café burger is a must try on this menu. it is exceptionally juicy and oozing with flavors of caramelized onions, mushrooms, white cheddar and horseradish aioli.

we just can’t get enough of delicious farm-to-table restaurants, so when we heard about terrain in westport we were super excited to try it. but, to be completely honest, we weren’t really sure what to expect.
