hidden wonder

went here because it was across the street from our hotel and was recommended by the staff. thanks to them for that recommendation. a lovely neighborhood place to get something different and freshly made. great service and food you can’t believe.

food was great. service was acceptable. we were disappointed that server did not want to take our drink orders at 3:50 for happy hour which started at 4:00 when restaurant was practically empty.

blend of passion and precision. muffin and i got to switch after about 8 hours travelling and though we weren't famished, we were definitely ready for something delicious. we were recommended this place by someone at the hotel (she even repeated it after i informed her we were kind of foodies and really wanted something great.)
we were a little worried about how large and diverse the menu was, though in hind-sight we were mistaken.
we started with crispy risotto croquettes, the day's flavor was lemon asparagus. lightly breaded with a lemon garlic aioli. creamy soft inside. we were well on our way in to a great meal.
then a couple of sandwiches. muffin was hankering for a burger, so she went with the cowboy burger. well balanced, little tang from the bbq sauce, burger cooked perfectly. i went with the southern dump truck. chicken thighs, homemade pickles, vidalia onion jam and more. it was either going to be really good or really bad. again my fears were misplaced. what a great blend of flavors and textures.
about the only disappointment was the side of mac and cheese. it seemed like a slight upgrade from velveeta shells and cheese. we were curious as to why the same person who made pickles from scratch had decided on such a simple mac and cheese. that's when we discovered (from talking to our friendly server) that the real way to experience the dish was with bacon or chicken and then baked (that is there entree version). now it all made sense.

all in all, a great meal in which you could taste the chef's desire to serve up delicious food prepared with care/

switch restaurant & wine bar  is a contemporary lunch and dinner restaurant located in the heart of downtown phoenix just off the light rail path. with its beautiful spacious modern decor, switch is a nice relaxing place to eat or stop in for a drink.

ok but food was tasteless. my friend and i went to switch last evening for happy hour and dinner. the grilled four cheese on texas toast had no flavor at all. i make better grilled cheese in 2 minutes on my george foreman grill. the bruschetta was dreadful and also had no flavor. the sangria is very light on the alcohol. we had 3 glasses each and had zero alcohol affect.
the place is cool and hip. the location can't be beat. food is tasteless. it might be because we are vegetarians and most dishes had an "add bacon' option. maybe that is why the food was.....awful

we met a friend there after a very long afternoon at the phoenix art museum; we were tired and thirsty. we hit the happy hour and tried their house wine, which was pleasantly surprising. wearied the cheese/fruit tray and the artichoke dip as apps- both were excellent! i had the sangria salad - a delightful melange of fruits and veggies. a friend had a sandwich that was quite good. hubby also had a salad - also excellent. service was really good - attentive but not invasive. decor and atmosphere was comfortable and cool. another great meal on phoenix!

one of the better 'gathering spots' downtown.  the perfect spot for drinks and a light meal prior to a night on the town. a well executed menu that offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. the 'must try'- the seared salmon with polenta

going to brunch? "switch" it up!. brunch at switch is where it's at! tried switch on the recommendation of some friends and went there with a small group for sunday brunch. the place was busy, music was playing and people were bustling about everywhere as we walked in. the atmosphere was very contemporary, but average dress was quite casual. even though we were a bit sandwiched at the back of the room next to several other groups in a make-shift arrangement of small tables, we got seated quickly and were rather comfortable. the brunch menu had a good selection of items with popular names, but each one had switch's own welcome twist. drink specials included mini-carafes (approximately 2 glasses each) of mimosas, cape cods, screwdrivers and bloody mary's for $4-$6 each and they all tasted very good, especially the bloody mary and the mimosas. my wife and i tried the fruit crepes and the house chilaquiles, while the rest of the group indulged in the huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos and breakfast mac 'n cheese. serving sizes were generous, but not too big. everyone enjoyed their dishes wholeheartedly and we all ate our plates clean. i got a chance to try a couple of the items besides my own and i really liked the variety of textures and flavors they presented. the only complaint we had was that some of the "hot" dishes arrived a bit on the cool side (though still warm in the center), likely from sitting as the staff waited to bring all the entrees out at once. our pleasant server always seemed to drop by just as we ran out of drinks and while there were a few times we had to wait to get something, it was obvious that the staff was very busy handling the rush of fellow brunch fans, so the small delays were completely understandable. all in all, it was a pleasant experience and we are highly considering making this a monthly brunch stop just to "switch" it up! recommended.

vibe is above average, decent music, creative menu, chicken was dry but the sauce was not only tasty but masked the dryness. like an indoor, asian inspired version of the vig.

second trip includes decent drinks...sadly but on selection is limited. food proved to be better this time around included fun but rich twist on a pot pie.

this place is amazing! every dish has something about it that makes it more than a normal restaurants dish. the prices are amazing as well, for the amount of food, atmosphere and taste!

a delightful metro sexual restaurant and bar for the hip, liberal and intelligent crowd. no snobs here and serviced by an impressive and diverse wait staff who are real, fun, attentive and alert. a phoenix mainstay for cocktails, 1st and 2nd dates and great for delicious food anytime.

...this bread pudding was probably made up of sticks of butter and heavy cream and it was incredible. in fact, every single thing i tasted, i absolutely loved. i would most definitely return to switch again, and again, and again!
