what makes sweet action ice cream so good? first and foremost, it is the only ice cream place i have ever visited that offers vegan ice cream. that in itself is awesome. even if their vegan product was inferior, i'd be giving some lukewarm kudos for at least offering us vegans a chance at ice cream. but here's the thing. their vegan ice cream is not inferior. in fact, it is some of the best ice cream (not just vegan ice cream) i've had. their vegan ice cream is just as creamy and dreamy as most of the other non vegan ice creams i've eaten in my life. i've achieved this vegan creaminess in my kitchen a few times but it usually requires a strong taste of banana or coconut. sweet action's vegan ice cream has neither. if you order a raspberry and chocolate ice cream you can rest assured that that is what it will taste like. it won't be raspberry and chocolate with a hint of banana or a sliver of coconut.
on my first visit to sweet action, i was privy enough to enjoy their vegan raspberry chocolate in a cone. absolutely fabulous all around. the ice cream had a nice blend of fruit and chocolate and was soft and consistent the whole way through. there were no ice crystals or chunks of anything that made you step back and wonder what was going on the waffle cone was freshly made and smelled so good. during our most recent visit, i asked my wife to get me a "vegan version that is fruity." she came back with pumpkin (as my only other option was green tea). again, it was creamy and consistent. it reminded me of a cold pumpkin pie.
sweet action ice cream rotates flavors daily it seems. this is great if you live there or if you aren't vegan as you have a lot to choose from. for those vegan eaters that are stopping by on a visit from out of state, it is sort of luck of the draw.
