love. this. place. one of the best!!

i eat here regularly and have had only positive experiences. i always crave to go back! my husband enjoys the miso soup which is nicely balanced not too salty. i love their garden salad with ginger dressing. i cannot get enough of that dressing!
sushi here is top quality with fair pricing and lovely presentation. my menu "go-to" items are dragon rolls. they are so good i can't seem to bring myself to order anything else! my top specialty rolls are the sweet potato frenzy and red & black dragon rolls. i have had a variety of vegetarian rolls which were fresh but just okay, not much flavor. these are plain by virtue of what they are- ho hum ordinary vegetables.
for veggie, i prefer sushi umi on wellington for their vegetarian rainbow rolls which are superb. sushi 88 has a broad and varied menu so you are sure to find whatever it is you are in the mood for and be satisfied.

the miso soup was good, not overly salty like other places i've been to. the prawn tempura was limp and soggy, definitely not worth the price. the kiwi roll was a miss. it might work if there is a sauce to pull the flavours together. the red pepper roll was boring. the 88 roll was the only roll we enjoyed. will give this place another chance.

also charged us 75 cents for spicy mayo without telling us. i have been to many sushi restaurants and never been charged for a tiny amount of spicy mayo.

-----18 aug, 2013-----

we ordered spicy salmon roll, spider roll and cooked eel roll with tempura as appetizer. the tempura was good and everything was fresh. good environmentand timely service. but not worth the forty dollar bill. the sushi was okay. the tempura was definitely not worth seven plus dollars for six pieces.

we went to sushi 88 on a tuesday. it was pretty busy but the food came pretty quick and was fresh. we were pleasantly surprised. great a-la-carte sushi for the price. we had a sashimi platter and a spicy spicy salmon platter which came with salmon and tuna nigiri, spicy salmon roll and cucumber rolls, just what i had been craving.

best sushi in ottawa. people are always talking about how wasabi is the best place for sushi....wrong!!!!! sushi 88 is hands down the best place for sushi in ottawa and is worth the 15 minute drive to china town to hit them up for some great eat in or take out sushi.
place isn’t very big so be warned they can be very busy so sometimes take out would be the way to go.
fish is super tasty, staff are good and polite sometimes a little slow because they typically only have 1 server even on busy nights.
i will always hit this place up for sushi best in town.

slow on weeknights, too. i went there on a weeknight, the place was half-full but the service was exceptionally slow, including the time it took for the server to take our orders. i had to flag her down.

the food is nothing special, and certainly not worth the wait.

25 minutes just to get tea. i confirm the issue with the sunday nights! i was there tonight and the server was totally overwhelmed. she let our appetizers sit for 15 minutes on the counter while one of us was eating their main dish before it got too cold. i came very close to going to get it myself. especially since the people at the next table had been served even though they had arrived at least 10 minutes after us.

great sushi. sushi 88 always has excellent quality sushi and unique choices (i highly recommend the volcano roll). while only one waiter works at a time, i have only received great service in the many years i have eaten at sushi 88. for those who are gluten free, the chef is very knowledgeable about what does and does not contain gluten, and tamari is available upon request.

great except sundays. great sushi - nice presentation and freshness, creative rolls, and veg options. we love it here, but the last couple sundays thought it would be nice to end off the weekend with sushi and its always slammed. totally packed with one server. not a relaxing way to end the weekend. go early or wait til monday night.

best overall sushi in ottawa. there are more fancy sushi places in ottawa, more expensive ones, more hyped ones, and more affordable ones, but for overall taste, quality, creativity, and a committment to consistency, sushi 88 is the best sushi place in ottawa.

you could probably get slightly better sushi at suisha gardens, but it doesn't have the same feel or cool specials, and is certainly more expensive.

sushi 88 ftw

best sushi in ottawa!. i've been to a handful of sushi places, and this is by far the best. i had a number of the roll, my favourite was the tempura sweet potato because the sweet potato is actually crispy (all the other places i've been to they have been smushy). the rolls taste very fresh! the atmosphere is quaint and intimate, but decor is relaxing,

hello uni nigiri. when i found out sushi 88 would be having fresh alaska sea urchin special starting aug 16, i immediately message my friend and went there today. we enjoyed the uni nigiri sushi very much. we also ordered black dragon roll, spicy salmon handroll, and agedashi tofu. i enjoyed every single dish. so far, sushi 88 is my favourite ottawa sushi restaurant because they prepare the rice right and use fresh ingredient and create those sushi with very good culinary skills. i like agedashi tofu prepared by sushi 88 the best comparing to other jp restaurants i have visited in different cities. simply, sushi 88's agedashi tofu is crispy without being greasy and is covered with the right amount of tempura batter and sauce.

delicious sushi,... good take-out option. went there with a friend and the sushi was delicious and well priced. the decor is nice, one of the cleanest on somerset and the service was ok. however, there is no wine menu and the house wine is not good at all. would definitely go back, but would order take out and bring it home to have decent wine to accompany this yummy meal.
