overall the food was pretty good (not mind-blowing or insanely delicious), service was great (8:45 pm, weeknight, no reservation), and i'd come here again to try different items. we did the meze (tapas) plates of flaming cheese (kind of gimmicky, literally just some melted cheese but $8 because it's on fire, the phoenician's fried holoumi cheese is better), lamb frites (our favorite, absolutely excellent), spanikopita (again very good, the tzatsiki sauce is indeed heavenly), and the shrimp ouzo (just okay, would not order again). the flaming cheese and spanikopita were a little heavy on the salt, but the spanikopita was still definitely edible (i hate to waste food but we left half of the cheese on the plate...too salty). it was not as loud and crowded as edo's squid (although the food wasn't as incredible either), but probably best for a date or a few friends- not ideal for huge groups. overall 4/5 stars

from our first brunch at stella's, it has been my favorite richmond restaurant. i celebrated my birthday there, we had our little brunch club holiday dinner there, i've raved about it to anyone who will listen, and will always be a willing participant for lunch, dinner, or happy hour there. basically, i love the place.

love!. i've been to stella's three times now and it just gets better and better. twice i went with a larger sized group of family and family friends, and though it was difficult to converse with those further down the table due to noise, we had a fantastic time. honestly, i don't know of anywhere you can go with a group of about 8-10 and have a conversation with everyone. the third time i went was for brunch and the atmosphere was definitely different (less crowded, more quiet), but still very fun and a good experience.

the first time i went, i ordered from the meze (tapas) menu and loved trying all of the different items. i can't even remember everything i had, just that it was all good...the feta phyllo with honey, greek meatballs, flaming cheese! the second time i went i had the black kale salad and the classic #5 pasta. the black kale salad--amazing. just great. the #5 pasta was good but really huge. it took me days to finish it.

when we went for brunch, we went with a medium size group of family members to announce our engagement...so it was a special occasion. i had some sort of bean and egg hash, which was good, and mimosas all around. it was a sunny day and proved that the restaurant is a lovely place to sit, dine, and visit day or night. definitely a favorite.

stella's. i eat lunch at stella's at least once a week.
dinner is a problem - it is packed but if i go early i can usually get a table.
i've never had a bad meat there and the staff is always atnetive, but never huvering.
maybe those giving thumbs down were at a different resturant .
stella's is not in carytown.. it is miles away from carytown.
and it's far better than any of the trendy eating estavblishments there..

who needs greek festival when you have stellas!!. i adore stellas! love goes into every dish. their daily specials are all always so fresh. i love the salmon and spinach special at lunch and the artic char at dinner! yummy. the grape leaves are to die for. the spinach pies are so flaky and delicious. the greek salad is incredible. lamb gyros are superb. i have yet to have a dish here that hasn't been pleasing. the side dish at lunch of the lima bean salad is really great too. and i crave the kale salad - the cheese on it is wonderful. keep up the good work stellas!! great service too you all are so nice i feel like i'm going to a friends house for a meal!

had to wait 20 minutes for a table for 2 even with a reservation. noise level borders on the intolerable and the place is very crowded. definitely not a relaxing dining experience. some of the meze are overpriced. that said, the food is very good...and i guess that's what it comes down to!!

everyone in restaurant club really enjoyed stella's. it is a cool place to go that is out of the way, and it's much more relaxed than alot of places in the fan or carytown. it just seemed more homey and welcoming. here's a great example: stella's has a long communal table in the middle of the restaurant where they sit random groups together side by side, no space in between, just like at burger bach. at burger bach i found this annoying and pretentious ... at stella's i found it enchanting. if that feeling speaks to you, you should definitely give stella's a try.

as a new giavos spot, i had high expectations. i had a 9:15 reservation on a friday night, arrived around 9:10. i waited at the bar for about 10 minutes enjoying an ice cold stella draft (the only thing on tap) until our table was ready. the atmosphere is nice and fun, yet slightly elegant at the same time. the two tops are a bit close, so don't expect to have a private conversation. our waiter was one of the best and most informative ive ever had. he was extremely friendly and very helpful with deciding what to order. (the hostess was also very friendly, and helped me get to know the neighborhood cat). we ordered calamari - fried. it was very well prepared and flavored, and the dipping sauce was different and good. for our entree we split the top item on the menu, on the page that has the 4 items made personally by stella(?) each day- pastichio 14. it was delicious, rich with creamy cheese and a perfect size. the fat noodles were melt in your mouth tender, and the beef has excellent flavor. the last item on that page, the #5, is gigantic- enough for 3 people to split. grab a few apps and split that for a great meal. all of giavos' restaurants have great atomspheres... so you can't count on that. what made experience great was the excellent service and well prepared food. oh, and the neighborhood cat hanging around outside was friendly too!

let's say disappointed. too long a wait for what we got........saganaki was good...spanakopita was kinda tuff.....kalamari would have been good for bait.....wine was good....if you want a real beer don't go there...3 plate's of the famous pasta # 5 left on the table.....rockfish was "just added" ...must have been yesterday's they forgot about!
drinks......$100
dinner ... $300
eight great friends... priceless
even if the meal was far less than expected

a crime against chicken. hey waitstaff, next time a patron doesn't eat his entree, you might want to ask "how was your dinner?" instead of throwing it into a 'to-go" box nobody wanted. the chicken in the souvlaki was inedible. cooked beyond recognition. not even digestible. would have been good at goodyear and it just makes you wonder how a mistake of this glaring proportion could happen. on the bright side, those among me seemed satisfied with their food, but i would suggest that stella's autopsy the souvlaki and investigate their consistency.

disappointing both times. the first time i went to stella's it was for happy hour for work. when we got there, the bar was crowded, so four of my colleagues and i sat at a nearby table. the servers were inattentive and were actually rolling silverware out in the open right near us at a table! the next time i went, the staff was much better, but the food was not. i ordered a pasta dish without feta, and it came swimming in some indistinguishable sauce that was bland and not tasty. my friend ordered the same dish with feta and she felt like it had so much feta in it that it was like macaroni and cheese. my other friend ordered moussaka, and she was also disappointed. she always orders moussaka at greek restaurants and this one did not live up to her standards. we also ordered sides of greek lima beans, which were also disappointing.
