chris was in town yesterday, and we decided to treat ourselves to a "fancy" dinner. a restaurant called stefano's has been on my bucket list for awhile because i've seen the commercials advertising it , and it's supposed to be one of the best fine dining establishments in town. from the outside, we determined it didn't seem too intimidating -- a neon sign and christmas lights in the tree. to top it off, it's located beneath a bowling alley , suburban lanes . it's tucked away, so there's not really a grand entrance, but the windows were dark, so we weren't quite sure what we were in for. when we walked through the two sets of doors, there was a hostess ready to take our coats. we had called ahead for reservations (as per requested on the website), so they sat us right away. there was one couple and a party of 10 or so. probably typical for a wednesday evening. the lighting inside was very dim, and consisted of mainly modern, circular track lighting. wine bottles were showcased in a cabi

"absolutely rude". i cannot say i had the chance to experience the food, but i had one of the worst customer service encounters of my life. i had called about 45 days prior to a prom to make reservations for 14 people and was informed i would receive a confirmation call a week later. i never received the confirmation call, so i decided to call myself to make sure i was still able to attend before this prom. i was then informed that there was not a reservation under my name and there was no possible way of getting this reservation back, which was okay and i went elsewhere. the night of the prom i received two voicemails saying how i was rude and inconsiderate for not showing up to my reservations. i called back explaining the situation and i was called a liar and was absolutely disrespected. i, in no way shape or form, recommend making reservations for any specific event at stefanos, nor will i ever experience their dining due to such rude people. i believe good business comes with understanding employees and/or ownership, which stefanos definitely lacks.

our experience at stefano's on tuesday february 23 went very well. we were walk-ins, and, though their website mentions reservations, we were promptly seated and served drinks. our server helped us order a delicious meatball appetizer with a side of gnocchi. our 3-course dinner for 2, including wine and drinks, was well worth the price.

best dining experience we've had.

we were first time to visitors but we will definitely be back. we had two of the feature dinners, meatball appetizer, drinks, and tiramisu. it was a great dinner but what made it even better was the wonderful server, mariah! thanks for the great dining experience, we will be back!

the food was phenomenal! the steaks were cooked perfectly, the pasta was to-die-for with huge chunks of lobster. desserts were simply amazing. service was great! i would definitely recommend it.

good food with a steak house vibe. i would usually say that the last thing morgantown, or northern west virginia for that matter, needs is another italian restaurant. this one is a nice addition. it's decidedly upscale and priced as such. we went midweek to celebrate a birthday and the dinning room was thinly populated.

stefano's seems to be the business dinner venue for morgantown and it does have that sort of feel to it. it rather reminds me of a morton's. it has a well stocked bar and wine list.

we started off with the meatball appetizer. it's roughly the size of a baseball and contains a great balance of meats and seasoning.

my wife always orders the penne in vodka sauce. she looks at other things but ultimately ends up with it. it never disappoints. i was pleased to find porchetta offered as a special and since i hadn't had it and wanted to see what all the fuss was about, i ordered it. it was a pork bomb, seasoned with fennel and garlic. the flavor was all there. now i have no problem with high fat content. yet i have to admit, it was too much for me. this is more a commentary on pork belly than stefano's. i wanted to try it, stefano's made an excellent rendition of it, i see the appeal. i don't think it's my thing. nonetheless, props to stefano's for putting it on the menu.

the service was good and the total for a two hour dinner for three people, with drinks was $200 including a 20% tip.

food good, everything else bad. the food is excellent, however everything else about this restaurant is not. prices are typical of what you would expect at a fine dining restaurant, no issues there. like others have said below the service is low quality. there is a bowling ally and you can hear the loud thud of bowling balls the whole time.

personally i won't be going back. the bad service we received outweighs any positives of the food. when you go out for fine dining you except exceptional service. i receive better service at my local chinese take out. stefano's is run by amateurs.

bad service. i went to stephano's on a whim with my wife the other night. we didn't have a reservation, but heard good things about the restaurant, and stopped by. when we got there there were about 10 people in the bar 2 large (6 persons) parties and 1 small party. the 2 large parties were leaving, and the waiters were clearing the tables.

we stood at the hostess stand for about 10 minutes, waiting for to be acknowledged. several of the waiters looked at me, nodded and then ignored me. after 10 minutes, i went to one of the waiters and asked if there was a host/hostess. he replied that he would get someone, and after another couple minutes another waiter came over and couldn't find the hostess. this waitress told me that there was a table available and as soon as the hostess got back i could be seated.

after another couple minutes the hostess came back along with (what is believe was) a manager. the waitress told the manager that we didn't have a reservation and that she was going to seat us at an open table (by this time, all but one of the tables in the restaurant were empty). the manager took the menu's from the waitress and said that they were very busy at that time, and we would have to wait at the bar for 15 minutes for a table to open.

needless to say we left and went to have a lovely dinner at oliverio's at the wharf.

i don't care how good the food is, if the service bad, the restaurant is bad.

great food quality, though slightly over priced ($28 for salmon, really. it isn't sea bass or branzino) there are other more upbeat, friendly options with the same, if not better quality menu. create a better atmosphere (not snobby) and it would be a more enjoyable experience.

perfect in everyway!. this is one of my most favorite places to eat. fresh homemade pasta, unique interesting sauces, fabulous desserts. the services is what really makes this place special, real, professional waiters that know how to treat you, perfect timing on all the food. i love the house italian salad dressing. the bread is fresh and delicious with butter and tapanade and olive and balsamic vinegar and the butter is spreadable. beautiful presentation on the appetizers. meat cooked perfectly. i can't say enough wonderful things about this place. ask for micheal as you waiter, he will treat you like a kind or queen. even cater to people with a baby, real high chair, juice boxes and baby biscuits. i love this place.

very pleased!. i would have to say for the last 3 years, i have been going to stefanos and enjoying the service and food and have never found a thing wrong with my experiance! i find it very hard to belive that others have had a bad experience. they have always returned my calls and and accomadated my small and large parties. i live out of state and travel due to work and always make a point to dine there at least once while in town. as for the prices, they are worth paying for the quilaty and detail to the food. stefanos is a small quite unfound glory! i feel that the people complaing should pull their nose's out of the air and try agian. hands down the best experiance in morgantown!

i called in september to make reservations following the wvu vs cinn game and left a message stating i did not know when the game was being played, but would reserve for 5pm; the message said someone would call and confirm- no one did; i called back when game time was announced and confirmed, but changed time to 6pm; the next day, i called and changed the time to 7pm due to a tailgate after the game; was told "no problem"; i was eating at the glass house on friday night and received a call from stephanos (a woman) and i again told her the reservation was for saturday and she said, "it will be no problem" and confirmed for 6 people; i arrived after the game around 6:15pm and was told there was a reservation for 2 only and 'we cannot accommodate you." there were at least 10 empty tables that i could see at the reservation desk, so we left. i will not return and i will not recommend to anyone and i will take every opportunity to share this with others. we left the restaurant and drove downtown and at the the golden finch- only open 3 weeks and i must say it was one of the most outstanding dinners i have had; the variety on the menu, the presentation, the customer service and the flavor of the food was outstanding- our table of 6- no one had a bad meal and we were sharing the food with each other so we could have a taste of all the dishes. the wine selection was great and the bill came to over $300 by the time we were finished with the wine selections and the desserts. sorry stephanos- you threw away $300 plus dollars and a chance at future customers from some very influential wvu alumni. too bad.

exceptional fine dining in morgantown. stefano's leads the fine dining pack in morgantown. on its way to being a aaa four diamond restaurant, the only around. i can't say enough good things about this place. service has never under impressed me, menu is creative, food is excellent, wine list is very good. it's cozy and different from anything else in town. the chef will even visit the table to chat if you like your meal. it is not inexpensive, it's fine dining...so don't come expecting jeans, beer, or spaghetti and meatballs.
