what a wonderful experience! it was our first time at spicy green bean and we were blown away by the friendly and professional staff, eclectic atmosphere, and absolutely delicious food. our waiter, jay, was over the top friendly and welcoming and our breakfasts were greatly portioned and delicious. the menu is unique and everything we ate was superb. can't wait to go back for dinner!

a 'go to' that is top notch- the challenge is to select something- anything- from this great place. sat at a 'chef's table' once and am a better person for it!!

everything was amazing!!! we had the sweet potato and panko encrusted chicken sandwich, the tomato basil bisque, and the spinach salad with grilled shrimp. this was an a+ lunch for a great price. can't say enough about it.

ups and downs. i love the byob dinners, although i am usually pretty tipsy by the time i receive my dinner, (i don't understand why it takes so long to cook my food, they only have 10 or so tables)??? i've tried most of the cooky sandwiches, i liked all but one. breakfast was good the one time i came for it, but i think they sometimes over do it with the amount of food, especially the specials they have. i must also say that the 3 times i made a reservation they screwed it up and my table was taken, i will add that they did make it up to us by giving us dessert, which is really good although i don't think they are all home-made.

great food. have been going to spicy green bean for quite a while and have always had a great experience. the food is awesome and i love the quirky combinations that always seem to work. the ingredients are always fresh. i have had catering from them as well and the food has always been well received.

good sandwiches. i have taken-out or eaten in here about a dozen times always ordering a sandwich or soup. sometimes i have had to wait a few extra minutes to be served, in-house and take-out, but it's usually around the lunch hour. the food makes up for the wait. the menu has some interesting sandwiches. each one i've tried has been very tasty.

stopped in randomly for take out. waited over thirty minutes for a burger and wrap. the sweet potato fries were soggy, the burger was eh and so was the wrap. not worth $28. service was mediocre. needless to say next time i will drive the extra two minutes to whole foods

service unacceptable. my wife and i went to the spicy green bean in glastonbury last sunday morning for breakfast. when we walked in we weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. there were no employees in the dining area so we walked to the back in the kitchen area and a waitress told us to seat ourselves and she would be right over. it looked busy, but there were still tables available. the waitress came over took our orders and served us some coffee. this is where it all starts to go downhill.

about 15 minutes later, the place filled up. a table of 4 men came in, and 2 other couples filled the other 2 tables. it seems that only 1 waitress was handling this whole room. i did see an employee walk out the front door and across the street. another 15 minutes go by and we still didn't get our order. i walked back to the kitchen where i saw some plates being prepared. i thought they must be ours. i was wrong. the waitress brought that food for the table of 4 men and then brought out breakfast for one of the other couples.

i called the waitress over to mention we were in the restaurant and ordered 20 minutes before these other 8 people came in. the waitress informed me the kitchen ran out of eggs earlier and decided not to tell us. that employee who walked out the front door was going out to buy some eggs. i asked "but how did that table of 4 men get their breakfast" the waitress said they are "friends of the owner and claimed they were in a hurry and the owner left, so…….i don't know what to say".
"whaaaaat"

they run out of eggs and have us sit there for almost 45 minutes without an explanation or apology. on top of that they gave their "friends" priority service. how rude! they never even suggested making up for this in any way.
we stood up and walked out and said we would never eat here again. we would make sure all of our friends would know of this experience along with restaurant ratings sites on the web.

we drove down the street to ken's corner restaurant and they were fantastic and sympathetic to our bad morning. i heard patrons of that restaurant sharing similar stories of spicy green bean's bad service. good to know i wasn't the only one. after reading other bad reviews of spicy green bean, i am surprised they are still in business. it's only a matter of time when all this word of mouth will catch up with them.

i love the food here! very creative and always very tasty. i'm always happy when i take out from here. dining in is a bit of a different story. service is slow. we came for breakfast and it took forever for coffee refills and we had to ask. it literally took at least 20 minutes to get the check (which we also had to ask for) after we finished. again, food's awesome, but dine-in service not so much.

that wow! is for wow how bad can service possibly be???
walked in with a friend for lunch and was completely ignored. after the "waitress" walked by us twice i went in the back to asked if we should seat ourselves which i was told yes. sat down at a empty dirty table (several to choose from btw) and the waitress gave a menu to the woman we followed in. she proceeded to clean tables and ignored us. thinking we were going to get menus next we were surprised when a young man came in sat down and his order was taken immediately (same waitress). then another man came in and the waitress then gave him a menu walking past us again. at this point i ask for menus and with a blank stare the waitress cleaned a table and set it and placed down 2 menus. when i asked the waitress if we were supposed to be moving there she said well you don't have a wait person in the area your sitting in. so we moved. once we moved a new waiter then came out and took care of people in the section we just moved from!! he ignored us as well. (i guess because now we were no longer in "his section".) the original waitress then took the orders of the woman that came in before us and man that came in after us. wow! i go out to eat alot and i've never ever had such horrible service. after a good 15 to 20 minutes of sitting and being ignored i realized we were never going to be waited on. i went to the back again and told the waitress that since she had taken the orders of now 3 people that came in after us we were leaving. guess what she said??? "ok". the more i think about this the angrier i get that i didn't demand the manager. i hadn't seen my friend in a while and was really trying to enjoy her company but wow how bad can service be?? i here the food is good but i guess i'll never know because i'll never go in that place again.

you just can't go wrong. first i love the creativity of their menu. plenty of variety for lunch and breakfast and the dinner menu changes weekly. my wife and i have been going to the spicy green bean since it opened in glastonbury in 2009. we have never had a bad meal and leave with smiles every time. the service is friendly, courteous and satisfying. i can't pick a favorite dinner items as i have truly loved them all. however, for breakfast the chicken ina biscuit with sausage gravy is to die for! we have break fast there a few times a month and that is all i have because it is so good.

good grub!. this place has delicious food that is very fresh. the menu changes constantly and nothing sits in that kitchen. i thought from the name that it was a "vegetarian" place, but learned on my first visit that it has excellent meat and fish entrees. the chef has a great imagination and her concoctions just seem to work perfectly. i just noticed that the menu is featuring an appetizer known as, "quido's provaletta". this is a specialty from argentina that involves a round of italian provalone cheese about half an inch thick that is roasted with italian seasonings. think of the very best part of a pizza and you have "provaletta"! it's a real treat - just like everything else on the menu. by the way, the wait staff here is well-trained, knowledgeable and the best that you will find in the greater hartford area - finally a place that gets it all right!. this place is the ecelectic winner that glastonbury has always been missing.

decadent. trying to write a review for the spicy green bean is like trying to find the words for my wedding vows! i absolutely am in love with this place and no words of mine can do it justice. i started off loving this place as a little lunch dive with great atmosphere and amazing menu choices! i frequented this place for the "tommy salami" , a genoa sandwich that was piled high with salami, provolone, pickle mayo, chimmichurri oil, roasted red peppers, and spicy green beans(my mouth waters while typing) . the sandwiches come with two sides that change daily and if you dont get yourself a side of their 3 potato salad or spanish rice salad once in your life you will have not fully lived! now, the bean is offering dinner service and unbelievably has impressed me even more! the waitstaff is friendly, efficient and top notch. one night we dined for dinner with my 7 year old and the server actually helped him pass a level on his handheld video game system. the dinner menu changes weekly, but some items not to miss are the fall off the bone glazed short ribs, summer rolls, crab cakes and the cowboy cut ribeye. i have yet to have a meal here that did not leave my longing for my next trip back. dont miss out on the dessert options, drop into the back and drool over key lime cupcakes or coconut ricotta cake, or even treat yourself with a toffee cookie. this place is a must and if you haven't been yet, it should be on your planner for next week!!!
