staff is alwaysfriendlyand professional. never been disappointed with the food when dining in and if there is an issue, it is always quickly taken care of. great place to grab a bite!

i only have the best reviews for the speights ale house. coming from christchurch i have been many times to our local restaurant and have always had a great dining experience. however the speights ale house nelson was a whole new experience. we took the family down on saturday night and even with it being fully booked we still received the thefriendlyresponse and great service we expected. our meals were received in an expected time frame and constantly had a waiter ready to take a drinks orders when needed. it had a great vibe about the place as all speights ale houses have and would recommend anyone who hasn't been before to go down and give it a try. we'll defiantly head back next time we are up!

i had the pleasure of having a bar lunch here when i was down on business 17th may 2012. service was excellent andfriendlyand the food was superb, i recommend the flounder, my mouth is watering thinking about it.
the atmosphere was the best i have been in since i lived in scotland.
this is a great place for either social or corporate meetings or presentations.

came here with my partner and sister. the food and drink was really good however was quite loud inside and felt like i had to shout to have a conversation. wait staff were veryfriendlythough and super helpful

friday night at speight’s in petone is a busy one. lots of busy tables and staff were hurrying around from table to table. still veryfriendlyand attentive though.

we only ordered off their grazing/starters menu - pork belly, salt n pepper squid and buttermilk chicken.

food was mostly disappointing unfortunately. chicken was overcooked, pork belly was absolutely swimming in the hoisin sauce which overpowered what could have been a nice dish and the salt n pepper squid was mostly okay - except that some of it was overcooked and chewy. some of it was fine and those buts were lovely, but it was inconsistent. it was also severely lacking in the required salt n pepper.

the chicken and the salt n pepper both would’ve been great but for the over cooking.

food also needs an alternative sauce option other than just wasabi mayo and chipotle with the chicken - just in case you’re sharing with kids who don’t like the heat. just a consideration.

one of the best steaks in town marinated with beer for a day or 2 and they do a really good medium rare! good familyfriendlyenvironment for sunday night casual dining, highly recommended, service is excellent!friendlywelcoming and accomodating

very nice venue.friendlystaff and the atmosphere is very chill. my 2stars is due to bad experience but i dont think it reflects how good this place is/could be.
long story short, i got a burger which was so dry and nasty i honestly could not eat it. when i mentioned to the staff member serving us all she could say is "oh that sucks" which i agreed with since i was still going to have pay for this nasty ass burger. i offered her a bite so she knew what i meant but she wasnt keen on that. anyway alot of complaining, 1 bite and $20.50 later you can see why i wasnt impressed.

great atmosphere and alwaysfriendlystaff. on a busy night, chances are hot drinks maybe served colder than anticipated - but the ever sofriendlystaff really make up for it. another set back is waiting for your table 8 mins before you booked due to being a busy nite - this is an inconvenience when bookings could be booked far apart to not let customers wait. food isn’t worth ordering but a cold drink is

had a lovely meal at speights ale house nelson this evening. the staff were veryfriendlyand the small this are important as they brought a small taster of their new beer with my first pint.

the starter of beef rolls and chicken bitter bites were nice. the filing lacked seasoning so missed the umph in flavor but overall it was ok. my main of pork and cracking was very nice. pork maybe a tiny over but i am being very picky.

the ambience is the same as most of the speights houses, to dark for my liking but must be a look they are going for.

overall a lovely meal and would go back.

food was amazingly prepared; if you're looking for a little bit if a kick i couldn't recommend the jalapeño cheese balls enough and the chicken parcel was divine. other highlights were the pork belly bites and the sorbet, which was a perfect finisher to the night.
top end service; i made a reservation in advance and the manager was happy to let me alter my guest numbers as well as catering for my uncle who needed wheelchair access. everyone was veryfriendlyand made the night that much more enjoyable.
good quality for money; for a few drinks, two entrees, two mains, a kids meal, and a dessert, we ended up paying just under $150.

have been here a few times now, and impressed every time. good location, stafffriendlyand good food and selection of tap beer. we will be back!

came here for dinner as a group. i ordered the lamb which came with gnocchi. the lamb was tender and well cooked, though under seasoned , the gnocchi was perfect, it was soft and delicious with the sage butter and had a nice caramelization on the outside. the mint salsa that came with it was just not enough to flavour all of the lamb. service wasfriendlyand helpful. it was freezing inside.

got the lamb shank. the lamb fell of the bone and was yum and tender. the sauce on the lamb was sad. the carrots were hard and the broccoli was burnt! good service andfriendlystaff.

food is always delicious, my favourite is always the goldfields parcel -it never disappoints! because of its popularity it can tend to feel a tad squashed between tables at times but overall it has a nice atmosphere. staff arefriendlyand helpful.

very clean and well presented withfriendlystaff but unfortunately the food just doesn't fire. i have a blue cos sand which which was expected to be simple, however it was really lacking in flavour - with limp lettuce, and no apparent seasoning. the bread would have been better lightly toasted. and just a little pep in the mayo would have gone a long way.
