southern seafood

when i googled this place, this was the second link to come up; ordered from here based on the menu and prices. turns out the prices are wrong. when i called to speak with the manager, he told me there was nothing he could bc he only worked with 2 sites. so just be aware that several of these prices are wrong. i won't be returning due to the disregard of care that the manager displayed. if someone is misrepresenting your business, i would think you would be inclined to correct it.

this place was very much a mom and pop in bfe hattiesburg. it took us a while to get from the interstate to this place, but it was worth it! their seafood was amazing.
between us we had catfish, shrimp, fries, cole slaw, gumbo, a chicken sandwich and bought some crawfish for later. everything was great except for the fries. the shrimp and boiled crawfish were extraordinary. the menu is out of date as far as cost. the 2pc catfish with 6 shrimp was $12, the small bowl of gumbo was $6, etc.

i am from the coast, but lived in hattiesburg the last 13 years and this place brings a taste of the coast to the hub city. it is in my list of top three for best tasting food in the hattiesburg / petal area. the best fried shrimp i have ever eaten.
owned and run by a wonderful, friendly family.

really good seafood!. this review is based on two visits, both of which were great eating experiences. first, when you walk in, you note immediately this is a seafood market, with beautiful examples of fresh seafood displayed. what you don't notice is a seafood smell, just great food being cooked and served. i ordered the "small plate" with catfish and shrimp, and two sides. both times just excellent and just enough food to fill me up. another member of my party ordered the ground mullet, and it was excellent. this last visit he ordered a shrimp poboy, and it was so large he had to bring half home to eat. my only concern in writing such a positive review is that i won't be able to get a seat next visit. (seating is a little tight, they will need to expand soon i believe.)

wow wow wow. i found southern seafood just by accident. this family-run business is marvelous. the fried items are so light, crisp and non-oily due to the attention paid by the owners. they must have some fine thermometer for their fryers. on a busy day you won't mind waiting for your order. i purchase fresh fish from them, letting them tell me what has been caught. the lump crab, claw crab or crab fingers for my crab salad are delish for my splurge(s). and if you can get out without sitting down to a combined catfish/shrimp/oyster plate you're stronger than i am. i actually brought home a couple of the catfish filets for another meal and shared with my neighbor. she's hooked. to be less guilty, their nice crisp green salad is great with any of their fried items. they also carry flavors of zatarains (reasonable price also) that i can't find anywhere else. (tip: enroute the gas station about a block a way usually has the cheapest gas in town so i always fill up!!) now if i can get mama le to put a fish combo pho on the menu or bring me some from her home!!

fresh and delicious!. we ordered the large combo: 2 pieces of fried catfish, 6 butterflied shrimp, fries, coleslaw, hush puppy, cup of gumbo, and a sweet tea. this meal easily fed 2 people, and all for $14. the fish was fresh and and perfectly battered and fried. the shrimp were out of this world! they were soft, flaky, and simply delicious. i will be trying the shrimp po-boy next time i visit.

100% love. the best!! the freshest!! the most delish!!!! hands down wouldn't touch any other shrimp to my mouth if it wasn't from southern seafood!! and i'm picky.. very!! i love this place and the staff too!! so friendly ;)

captain dennis baldo. southern seafood of hattiesburg ms. has the best seafood plates in mississippi if you ask me there shrimp plates are just out of this world, lisa, teresa and john really know how to cook seafood the fried shrimp and fish are cooked just right along with all the other goodies of the sea they have there at southern seafood and, if you don't like seafood they have other dishes that are sure to please any one's apatite… i'm from louisiana and have been a commercial shrimp fisher all my life and i have to say i haven't eaten shrimp that taste that good until i bought a seafood plate from southern seafood….    p.s. and the prices are hard too beat anywhere....

great food!!!. had lunch here the other day. two shrimp poboys that were absolutely delicious!! piled high with large fresh golden fried shrimp seasoned perfectly on wonderful french bread. probably one of the best shrimp poboys in hattiesburg. this isn't a fancy place and sort of out of the way but well worth going to. the staff was very friendly and we will definitely be back. great food!!

best kept secret in hattiesburg. i am originally from louisiana and grew up on seafood. i now live in columbia and don't get over to hattiesburg to eat often. but i just found a jewel in old hattiesburg that has absolutely the best, freshest seafood that i have ever eaten. we had fried catfish, shrimp and oysters and they were all exceptional. the staff was very friendly and helpful. i can't wait to return and try some boiled crawfish or shrimp and perhaps take home some assortment of fresh uncooked fish and shrimp.

followed the reccomendation on u s and i am glad i did. i was looking for a off the beaten path place that locals go and this fit the bill. part seafood market, part convenience store, part restaurant. not fancy but great food!

very good. we enjoy eating at southern seafood, the food is excellent and the staff are exceptional, and friendly. if you have not tried it, give it a try. you won't be disappointed.

the paradise chicken was to die for! inside the sandwich contains a great portion of the marinated chicken breast, ham, crisp lettuce, pickles, fresh tomatoes, cheese, pineapple, 2 sturdy buns to hold everything together and a side of seasoned fries. the chicken itself was pact with flavors. this sandwich was absolutely delicious! i recommend this to anyone who loves a sweet and savory sandwich. i also suggest that you come on an empty stomach because it is so fulfilling! (bon appétit)
