the "restaurant in a mall" tag doesn't apply here. the appetizers are enough with a glass ofwinefrom a decentwinelist... i will tell you, i m not a mac and cheese kinda guy.... but... this mac and cheese will turn the most stubborn to their culinary knees! the service is impeccable, the bar scene very local and fun.. if your for some reason, you are in the area, definitely give this place a chance for a wonderful evening

avoid!. i’ve been waiting for several months to write this review as i was so thoroughly turned off by my experience in this so-called restaurant.

i've had more than a few bottles ofwinein my time and when i think it's turned i say so politely. not something that happens often (first in quite a few years that i sent back). management arguing with me that's it's simply "earthy" and insinuating that i am clueless, "you know, we don't make the wine," is insulting. i couldn't get the check fast enough. and the fact that everyone on staff was incredulous that i don’t enjoy being treated poorly was icing on the proverbial cake.

the waitress was actually very nice and tried to be attentive. management didn’t even tell her that we cancelled our order. she was still bringing silverware over to the table as we were leaving. and no, i didn't take it out on her. i tipped as if it were a michelin star establishment.

all i required was a simple, "what can we do to make this right," from the management. all they had to do was turn the bottle back to the purveyor and get their money back. i suppose disdainful argument is one way to go, but not on my dime.

truly one of the most unpleasant dining experiences that i have ever suffered through. hard to believe these are the same folks that operate mr. friendly's.

pretentious and contemptuous is no way to run a railroad. won't. be. back. ever!

nice!. went to solstice for dinner and was completely satisfied. they have an extensivewinelist and a full bar. the servers work well together ensuring our glasses were topped-off and table was cleared of all used plates. our waitress was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. i ordered the duo of rabbitt. it was prepared beautifully and tasted fantastic. my wife ordered the ribeye served with mashed potatoes and spinach. the steak was perfect and she raved about the mash potatoes and spinach. service was quick and the portions were just right for a hungry couple and the prices were reasonable or maybe a little high, but for what you get it's worth it. we'll be back.

the atmosphere was decent for a restaurant in a strip mall. that said, thewinelist leaves a lot to be desired. the fransiscan cab that i has was extremely tannic and unbalanced. cassis?? no. only coppery and metallic finish. steak tartare fell short of the mark though the quail's egg was a decent addition otherwise, too many capers, underseasoned, worstersire was weak. this recipe needs to be revamped. check out tony bourdain's recipe as a start. the steak in the steak and fries was excellent as was the spinach that came with it. the fries were overdone and poorly executed - if you are going to do a bistro dish, cook your potatoes properly. blanch them in oil then fry them after they've rested. they were also cut unevenly and way to crunchy. along with the steak frites, what in the hell was a side of hispanic adobo doing there? inapropriate addition to a french meal. the foie butter was excellent. bread was terrible. if you are reading this, do not waste your money at this restaurant - go to hampton vineyard...

one of my favorite restaurants with one large flaw. solstice kitchen is one of three restaurants in the columbia area that i consider truly worthy of "five stars" (the other two being mr. friendly's and ristorante divino). i've dined there about ten times since their opening a few years ago, and have never had a bad experience. as far as i know, they have the largestwineselection in columbia, with a list of over 650 wines by the bottle. the food is always amazing and their menu changes frequently to adjust to seasonal vegetables and availability (much of their product comes from local farms). the atmosphere is fairly casual and laid back (but not "shorts and t-shirt casual), and the dining room is accentuated with comfortable seating and a great atmosphere. i would suggest joining their mailing list, as the restaurant regularly offers some incrediblewinediscounts and specials for members of the list. we're always treated to an amuse-bouche from the chef before our meal, which looks like it was prepared with a lot of thought, rather than just throwing something together quickly like some other restaurants do. i realize restaurants don't make a profit by giving out an amuse-bouche, which is why it's so nice to see quality ingredients being used in their preparation.

diners should make sure to try the gouda mac and cheese, the table side beef or tuna tartare (if offered that night), and any seafood selection, especially with mussels or scallops. the only flaw with this restaurant is its location in northeast columbia. although it's really not much more than a 15 minute drive from downtown columbia, i would definitely appreciate it if it was closer. given the restaurant scene in charleston and even greenville, it is amazing that columbia lucked out with such an incredible restaurant nearby.

food absolutely awesome. would have a michelin star if in metropolitan city. food and especiallywineprices are reasonable. i would go so far as to say wines are inexpensive. my wife and i have eaten some amazing food in ny, chicago, and sf and this place is half the price and the food is every bit as good.

simply excellent.. great staff, creative, ever-changing menu, perfect size and atmosphere. excellentwinelist with all the servers on top of pairingwinewith the food. i've been there over 40 times and have always had a fabulous meal with service to match. it's not inexpensive but so well worth it. they have a great bar and dining area adjacent to it that is perfect for a quick bite, drink or meeting place.
