great "greasy spoon" breakfast!. if you want a hearty breakfast, smithstreet diner is great! they definitely do not skimp on the calories, cholesterol and all of the other things that make for "down home" cooking.

service was pleasant, atmosphere was definitely a fast paced diner (as the name advertises). if you are looking for a romantic breakfast, this isn't the place. but it's the best breakfast place that i have found in greensboro!

prices were very fair... oh, and before i forget... their fresh squeezed orange juice was great!

decent food, but outrageous prices. biscuit, scrambled eggs, sausage & gravy, coffee... under $6 at any respectable diner.smithstreet... try $10.50. will not be going back. try jake's on wendover. same food, better biscuits, half the cost.

consistent comfort food. we visit greensboro a few times a year, and always eat atsmithstreet diner. we wandered in one day when our sons were in middle school, and after we ate they aptly named it "the giant biscuit place." our latest visit was for dinner. we had a chicken breast biscuit, and a fried fish sandwich. the chicken biscuit was so big my husband had to eat it open-faced with a knife and fork. he got some jelly and finished the biscuit as dessert. my fish sandwich was a "special", and was served on a fresh bun with slaw and a slice of red onion. we shared a dish of mac and cheese for a side. all of it was delicious. there's nothing fancy about this place, but the food is really good in a homey diner atmosphere.

as far as diners go, i'd saysmithstreet diner is good. expect large portions, notably their biscuits, though i would suggest trying their cornbread, which i thought was good. the fried chicken and corned beef hash i had were both fine but won't be drawing me back for more. i honestly don't understand the hype aroundsmithstreet diner, but contrary to that, i think if you *do* enjoy diners you will be perfectly happy with the food and atmosphere. pretty much the quintessential greasy spoon. if you haven't been and love diners, give it a shot, but i personally wouldn't suggest standing in line for a seat.

extremely rude behavior marked our visit. four of us excitedly showed up atsmithstreet diner today for lunch around 1:00. we meet every thursday andsmithstreet has fried chicken on thursday. we asked for a table for four and they told us that we would have to wait outside. none of us are large people, one friend is not even 5 feet tall. one member of our group is in her 70's and the heat index today was right at 100. they were full but had a few extra seats and three at the bar. she told me we had to wait outside because of the capacity rules. i mentioned that there were three chairs at the bar and she said we could only sit there if we were going to eat there because that was reserved for paying customers. my friend is on heart medication and i was not making her stand in the heat to eat at any restaurant. i quickly counted the tables and chairs and in addition to the three bar stools they also had 6 empty chairs at tables which were not at capacity. i have to say, their fried chicken is usually good but today it just did not taste that good. i for one will not be going back. rude behavior is uncalled for and asking a 70+ year old woman to stand outside in the heat to wait for a table is absurd. byesmithstreet diner. by the way, i am very familiar with the fire marshall's rules. my husband works for them.

nice little southern breakfast place. when searching for a country style breakfast place to take some friends visiting from out of town everything i read led me tosmithstreet diner and i can't say anyone was dissapointed. the food was quality, though eggs and bacon are not easy to screw up. the biscuits were large as advertised though mine was a little hard as i prefer a softer biscuit but it was still tasty none the less. the server was exactly what i expected, rushed and busy but offered the southern hospitality that i was looking for. food was average price for what it was, maybe a little on the high side and the place was small and cramped but fulfulled expectations none the less. i'd go back but it is not a must visit when entertaining guests in my opinion.

biscuits? gumbo? eggs? of course. we just had a wonderful meal atsmithstreet diner!! with a group of teenage girls we were looking for no wait (on a friday night!), a variety of choices (breakfast, dinner, etc.), and, of course, great tasting food. we found it all atsmithstreet diner. there was comfort food served by a most attentive, personable, and generous employee despite the fact that our party of seven arrived 30 minutes before closing. the girls are already planning a return trip. make sure you stop by and have one of their bountiful biscuits.

my husband and i ventured out of durham last sunday morning to visit our son who goes to guilford college in greensboro. i decided we should have breakfast atsmithstreet diner. it was recently featured in our state magazine and i figured we couldn't go wrong. i love diners. i have since i had my first hamburger in one in marion, nc when i was about 8 or 9 years old. my grandfather took me there and he knew good food, having been a chef once upon a time in a hotel in high point. we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes before we were seated. posters of pigs are the main decoration atsmithstreet. our waitress brought us steaming mugs of freshly brewed counter culture coffee while we checked out the menu. i decided upon a biscuit, gravy and an egg over-easy. they serve the biggest biscuits i have ever seen, much less eaten. my breakfast was delicious! the gravy was perfect-just the right amount of pepper. the guys needed meat so they ordered sa
