over priced and poor service. the barbecue is simply over priced. it's decent barbecue but dang sure not worth what they charge. the service is worse than the barbecue though. for the money i just can't see going back.

good food but some inadequate service. in shreveport on business recommend by hotel i always stay. decided to sit in the bar since it was 8:00 figured it would be faster. that was not the case it took forever for the bartender to acknowledge me and then she said i am sorry i did not see you there. okay no big deal right now she will get moving, a few minutes go by and then she decides to ask me what i would like to drink after that 12 to 15 min go by and then she says do you want to order, no i came here to drink water and watch the football game. i should have left, but it was late and i was hungry. i go out to a lot of restaurants, some high end some average, but the service was the worst i have had in i can't even recall

travel all the western states, and love this joint!. my job carries me to all the western states, and i eat out almost every night at lots of restaurants. a friend in long view tx said i had to try the silver star. so we went for an early diner before i left for oklahoma the next day. well, i mean to tell you, i love bbq brisket - and i wasn't disappointed! tender, juicy and flavorful. the service was great, the au gratin potatoes were fantastic, sweet tea was most excellent. i can say without any reservations, if i'm within 100 miles of the silver star - like arnold, i'll be back!

fallen star craphouse. $60+ for two (no drinks) for just okay food....what did i pay for? service is terrible, i mean terrible! did someone think that since all the servers are young, tan, some scarcely dressed hooters girls that they don't have to do anything? the manager, whom i observed seeming to be close friends with the hooters girls probably gets a percentage of his compensation in....untaxable wages...under the table...who really knows. great concept with "the stage", etc...either the owner(s) are filthy rich or completely crazy...

poor wait staff and service. i've been to this restaurant numerous times, both as a dine-in and take-out customer, and the experience is the same regardless - unnecessary waits and being treated like you're a burden. i've gone on different days of the week, too, and that does not change the service or the treatment. the last time i went to pick up a take-out order, there were three young ladies serving as hostesses but it still took over 15 minutes for one of them to address me even though i was standing directly in front of them. what's the most funny thing is that when my attractive boyfriend walks in, he's addressed immediately... i guess you need to be a male customer in order to get timely service but, based on the many other reviews, it seems some men are subject to the same treatment as me.

stay away from this awful place!. i had been here because i have enjoyed meals at the country tavern and texas st. tavern/steakhouse, which the proprietor either used to own or perhaps still does. the restaurant does not have its own webpage. while both of the other places the people have been dressed in an appropriate manner and were friendly, the waitresses here are scantily clad, most in in daisy duke style shorts. all of the employees i came into contact with had horrible attitudes. for a bbq place in the south and particularly in louisiana, they need to work on the way the young staff treats customers. they also sound as though they are out of breath and are not willing to spend any time answering questions. the goal is to quickly turn the table and get you out of there. the food was nothing like the high quality food that i have had at mr. alvis' other restaurants and was not very diverse as at the other restaurants. there were several people in our party and no one was impressed. it is extremely loud in there and is in a very unappealing location. it is out of the way, only a portion of the parking lot is paved and the rest is gravel. the grass has not been mowed near the entrance to the parking lot in obviously quite some time. save your money or go to a really good bbq place, of which there are many in the shreveport/bossier area in nice locations. it is disappointing to see mr. alvis is allowing this business to be run this way, which he has previously been known by his successes. this will likely not be one of them, except for people who prefer to have a meal in a loud and undesirable location with rude staff, many of which are barely clothed. unfortunately, i had not read the awful reviews on numerous sites before trying this place. i will not ever go back and would not recommend that anyone do the same. although i have not used their catering service and have not booked a private room, it is clear that their staff is way off the mark on that front as well, as is shown in so many reviews.

expect to wait. this is not the place to go if you don't have a lot of time. the food at silver star is good once you finally get it, but it takes forever. had a 7:00 pm reservation for a birthday party of 21. even with a reservation we still waited almost thirty minutes for a table. once we were seated it took thirty minutes for drinks, and another thirty minutes for appetizers a round two. we finally had to tell our server we were ready to order. it took over an hour for our food. seated at 7:27, food arrived about 9:20, finally got our checks and left at 10:10.

better luck next time. tonight was my first visit to silver star smokehouse. first off silver star is just to loud. i hate having to scream to the person sitting next to me just to be heard. our waitress was good. she was constantly refilling our drinks so we never had to ask. we were a party of 9, and i was the only one at the table who didn't get what i ordered. i ordered the half chicken and about 10 minutes later our waitress came back to the table and said they were out of chicken. this seems to be a recurring issue with silver star. i have never been a big fan of barbecue, and don't eat pork, so my options there are extremely limited. since i had not eaten all day, i settled on a cheese burger which turned out to be very good. the burger was semi warm and well done, not medium rare, but i did enjoy it. the fries would have been perfect if they had not been cold. it did take forever to get the checks, but all in all, it turned out better then i expected. i will give silver star another chance, but only if someone else is paying.

broken reservations. about 11 of us had from our 50 year class reunion met here to eat lunch to see if this was the place we wanted to actually have our 50 year class reunion. the person representing the establishment answered all our questions and showed us exactly what area/room we were to have on the designated date. the area/room was going to be just great. we could put up our banner and have a sign in table and could come a little early to get set up. one of my class even called a couple of times to make certain all was still as booked. well, lo and behold, on the morning of our scheduled reunion, one of my classmates got a phone call to tell us that do to a concert having been booked in the area called the stage, we could no longer have the room we had booked. the area that we were relocated to was behind a larger dining area with poor lighting and no "extra" tables for us to use for signing in or setting up our memorabilia. the food was a little pricey for what we had, $16.99 per plate for 3 meats, beans, potato salad, bread, pickle slice and tea. in the beginning, i had great things to say about this place as i went to an even that was catered by silver star. what we had at that catered event was really great compared to what we had at our first meeting and then our actual reunion! i will probably never go back to this place.

thief!!. went to silver star yesterday for the 1st time. it's a little pricey but the food was amazing! when we paid our tab with cash, the waitress shorted us $10. i called her over & told her & when i held up the change & receipt for her to look at, she said 'oh you don't need to show me' & pulled out a $10 bill from her pocket & handed it to me without even looking to make sure that's what it was. she is a pro at this & i am sure she has done it to others in the past! my husband was still kind enough to leave her a 20% tip which is way more than she deserved! i've tried to call management but not able to get through. i will drive back in person if i need to & make sure this gets addressed.

yum!. i must say that i'm shocked at some of the reviews. i've had nothing but excellent food and service each time i've visited silver star. the burgers are the best i think i've ever eaten (and trust me, i've eaten a lot of burgers at a lot of places in the world!). the bbq is awesome - quality! the fried pickles - good, the potatoes - really good! i'm going to dinner there this weekend so will be on the lookout for some of the issues mentioned in other reviews.

met my requirements. i was in caddo parish principally on business but had a large number of old friends (28) in for a 45 year reunion and we decided to met on a friday night before the reunion. a good friend and i had been in the shreveport - bossier area for the whole week trying to find a location, dinner for 25-30 with cocktails.
the silver star had been recommended, but some negative recommendations on urbanspoon made me wonder. so after a taxing day, i was to the point of not wanting a drink, i needed a drink, so the silver star was near and thought ok let's look with a friend who was with me hunting for that place. in the bar the atmosphere was friendly and upon inquiring we could be given a room for 25-30 on a friday night, so we chose silver star.
all in our party was pleased with the food, service and altho we shared the room with other groups the sound level was good, you were able to hear a person 3 people away.
overall it met and exceeded our needs, thank you silver star.
i will put this location on a my to-do list on future trips here.

scale of 1-10? i give it a 6. long wait, pretty girls, slow service, food was warm...not hot, average to small portions. decent tasting, not expensive, but pricey for what you get. atmosphere was good, and it was clean. if you've never been out of louisiana, then you might think it's great

although the food was good, the customer service was awful!! i have never been to a restaurant where you ask to speak to the manager he comes out with an attitude and doesn't listen to his customers side of the story when his waitress is awful! i have worked in customer service for almost 10 years and i would be embarrassed for my boss to handle situations like the manager did there tonight! we will never be back there again!
