sienna on the square

so disappointed. my friend and i had tickets to a 7:30 show at the benedum on a monday night, and came fordinnerat 5:45 with a reservation. we thought an hour and a half fordinnerwould be fine. what a mistake! we were seated by a bad attitude young girl in an almost empty restaurant, maybe ten tables with people. we immediately ordered a drink and when it arrived ordered an app and main courses. we did say we had to be out for our show. our flatbread app showed up at 6:30. 45 minutes after seating and while it was tasty it was also extremely salty. by now we are worried and tell 2 more people that we have to leave at 7:15. by 7:05 we're realizing we may not have time to eat. when our waiter arrives at 7:12 we just ask for our check as we still do not have our meals. he brings our check which includes the food and a glass of wine we still did not have. we can't even believe it! he gets a manager which seems to take forever and they still don't take all the food we didn't receive off of our check! and to add insult to injury, they try to serve our entrees to us as we are leaving. i have eaten many places, lived in la and traveled a lot, but have never had such a rude experience in a restaurant in my life. i really can't speak for the food other than the salty app but we had to sit through an entire show, hungry and dying of thirst from the salt. this place needs an attitude makeover!

we had a deliciousdinner. appetizers beet salad great ,tomato bisque , chicken liver mousse all excellent . entres were all terrific mussels in fennel tomato broth, short ribs were tender in a delicious sauce, prosciutto wrapped salmon yummy and chicken marsala devine. waiter was wonderful didn't rush us. if we lived in pitt we would definitely come back.

matilda is one of the shows we were really looking forward to seeing in this season's broadway package. the show did not disappoint. it was excellent. as usual, we went todinnerafter the show. this time, we chose sienna on the square. it's one of my favorite restaurants in pittsburgh and i wish we got there more often.

yesterday was a rare sunday date day for us. we had tickets to see kinky boots. that show was the reason we bought a 3 show package to the summer clo shows. it is a fantastic show and a treat to have billy porter come to his hometown to play lola. after the show, we headed to market square and enjoyed the beautiful day for a bit before the smell of cigarette smoke chased us over todinnera bit earlier than our reservation. ourdinnerdestination: sienna on the square. we had been to sienna before, in september 2013, and were excited to try it again because it had been so long since our last visit. it was almost like a new-to-us place.

we walked from the hyatt place on the north shore over the fort duquesne bridge to point state park, then to sienna sulla piazza in market square fordinnerwith friends. i can’t remember the last time i visited market square. it’s changed quite a bit... unfortunately, i had partied a little too hard at liz’s bachelorette party on the south side the night before. sienna had an excellent wine menu, but i had to pass on that. i wasn’t sure if i could handle real food, especially rich italian food, but sienna’s housemade ricotta wild mushroom gnocchi ($19), surprisingly, helped cure my hangover. i asked them not to include the pancetta. fantastic gnocchi dish with gorgeous mushrooms.

delicious meal great value. i've been here twice before, once with a friend for happy hour drinks and another time to meet up with my son and daughter-in-law fordinnerbefore a show. i had excellent experiences both times. today i stopped in for a bite for lunch and the excellence continues.

the ambience at sienna is contemporary with low lighting and caribbean infused jazz playing just loud enough in the background to create a cozy, inviting and, dare i say, romantic atmosphere. the bar is fully stocked and they carry a modest selection of craft beers. it’s finally getting warm enough now outside that they were able to open the front wall (garage door style) of the restaurant exposing the place to the sights and sounds of market square. they even offer sidewalk seating for those early enough to snatch up a table there. i, however, wasn’t so fortunate and took a seat at the bar.

after taking a stool i was promptly and cheerfully greeted by the bar keep with a glass of ice water. i glanced at the menu and hesitantly decided on the open face chicken parmesan sandwich with a side of pasta salad. i say hesitantly because i haven’t had a good chix parm in the downtown-cbd yet.

it took less than ten minutes for my meal to come out and i was oh so pleasantly surprised. in front of me was a juicy plump chicken breast covered in delicious italian inspired marinara sauce (that was obviously in-house made) topped with a generous coating of provonello all sitting on top of a lone slice of focaccia. a pinch of basil sat capped off to the side on the provonello as if to say, “we believe in attention to detail”. it’s been a long time since i had chix parm that simply looked this good. if the presentation gets an “a”, the taste of this here dish gets an “a++”! the side pasta salad was a nice touch. it was dressed lightly and paired perfectly with the parmesan.

my total bill came to $11.77 plus tip. if you’ve dined enough in the downtown-cbd you know you can spend a lot more for a meal of this quality. i really can’t say enough good things about sienna sulla piazza.... excellent service, comfortable atmosphere, delicious meal all for a more than reasonable price.

delicious. this small busy spot was just the place for a couple of out of towners. i would recommend a reservation, but ourdinnerat the bar was delightful. the staff was very helpful and their advice was spot on. tagliatelle was to die for with malbec braised pork and my girlfriend toyed with the idea of ordering a third baseball sized veal meatball filled with delicious mozzarella. small but varied wine list.

very disappointed. we went there for dinner. the food was ok, nothing memorable. i would not go back for the food or recommend it. if you like wine, it is not the place to go. very poor wine list. maybe 5 or 6 wines by the glass for each red and white variety. also about 10 wines by the bottle for each the red and white varieties so very short list for both. the problem isn't that it is a very short list, it is that the standard of the wine is very low. maybe good for a struggling college student but if you are into wine, you will be disappointed. the price is cheap and it reflects in the quality.
i did not like my appetizer and mydinnerwas too salty. i took one bite of each and returned it. at that point i was disappointed in everything and i did not want them to replace it. they still charged me for both. they said it was their policy to charge for everything that is ordered even though i took only one bite. they said that they can package the food or me to take home. well, i do not like it now and will not like it later so why take it home. the manager also told me that the chef tasted the food and said it tasted fine so i was wrong. omg, the chef is the one that made the bad food, of course he likes it!! terrible management, mediocre food, mediocre service, mediocre ambiance. never again.

love this restaurant. my husband and i love coming to this restaurant. the lighting is subdued, and the atmosphere is inviting and romantic. the food is exceptional. we've tried a number of the appetizers, salads, flatbreads, pasta, etc., and all has been delicious. the only weak part of the evening is the quality of the mixed drinks. while the bartenders are gracious, their skill at creating mixed drinks is not equal to the skill of the chef in the kitchen. when we eat here, we keep our drink requests very simple, beer or a glass of wine.

excellent experience. my husband and i haddinnerwith another couple here last night, and the evening was exceptional from start to finish. we had drinks at the bar while we waited for our table, and the drinks were perfect. our waitress was attentive without being intrusive. their meals and ours were delicious. in addition to wonderful food, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. we will definitely return often.

just stopped in for takeout. nice place, good service. a little dark. terrific wine selection. had the open faced eggplant parm. very good. (the skin needed to be either peeled or scored, though). the sauce was fabulous. also had greens and beans. flavorful, but needed more greens. maybe it was the bottom of the pot. looking forward to bringing my husband here for a nicedinnersome warm evening when we can sit outside and take it all in.

fabulous. been to sienna twice and had a greatdinnerboth times. the gnocchi melts in your mouth. great atmosphere and knowledgable staff who don't rush the meal.

the magician. i had a great experience at sienna sulla. after going there for lunch a couple times, i had my heart set ondinnerand sienna did not disappoint. everything i've eaten there has been fantastic...beets, flatbreads, the mussels on their lunch menu were the best i ever had and my only complaint is that they weren't on theirdinnermenu, the greens and beans and finally the excellent shrimp risotto entree. perfect! i love the atmosphere. we had great service. and, i found my new favorite wine...the magician! thank you sienna...i will be back!

my aunt and uncle were in town from atlanta and we decided to go to sienna. i had never been or heard of this before but i will definitely be back! the service was incredible and our server really knew what he was talking about. i had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection. i also enjoyed an agave tequila cocktail from their drink menu and it was so uniquely delicious. we had appetizers, main courses and desserts; all of which were fabulous. i would highly suggest anyone to go here whether it is a romantic night with your significant other or a fundinnerwith friends! we took our time and soaked up the great atmosphere :)
