german style cuisine delicatessen/market, amazing!
this is a necessary must visit for anyone strolling the down town salt lake area.
after a morning of shopping or lunch date before a matinee performance at the capitol theater almost next door, this should be on everyone's go-to list.
the authenticgermansausages are beyond delicious along side the crout and hot potato salad, simply unforgettable. don't forget to give yourself a complimentary squirt of spicy brown mustard to dip slices of those links into and, wunderbar!
pure perfection.
the stroganoff is my personal favorite, served on a delectable bed of spaetzle (soft, buttery noodles) along with a super thick slice of apple strudel. a perfect and very filling midday meal.
and if that's not enough for your appetite, you can always try the huge pork chop special with side dishes. woof!
too much, how about an amazing bowl of borscht (hearty beet and beef soup) and a wonderful crusty fresh made roll.
if your not drooling and craving to dine here yet, you may want to check your pulse.
this 45 year old delicatessen is doing something completely right, to be the only authenticgermandeli still thriving in the heart of salt lake city.
not to forget, after you've stuffed yourself on deliciousness, peruse the market for some 'take-home-treats' as well.
win win

siegfried's delicatessen reminds me of an old school cafeteria... except the food is really, really good. the moment you enter, you smell the rich aromas ofgermancuisine. the process is fairly simple, just step up behind the long line of patrons also looking to place their order with the incredibly nice "lunch ladies" behind the serving station.

this place is incredibly busy, but you can get in and get food remarkably quickly. the only problem may be seating if it's packed. there are tables for groups and a long counter for loners (or groups who like to face the same direction when they eat).

i was a little unsure about using the lemon on the wienerschnitzel. it was superb with and without, so leave it to your taste buds to decide.

the spaetzle was delightful. i must advise, i think the texture is a bit of an acquired taste. very easily acquired, though, i imagine.

awesome food, it is often difficult to find goodgermanfood in utah, so it is nice that siegfried's exists. i love this place, you should try it. get real food, not just a sandwich, you'll love it.

best deli ever!!!!!!!!. i didn't think i would likegermanfood until i first came here. i highly recommend the wienerschniztel and spaetzle. the meat is very flavorful and has a nice crunch to it. i liked to add some lemon for a little acidity and it also gives a different flavor profile. the spaetzle with the gravy is delicious as well. very very good.

prima. there was a time when every major us city had a greatgermanrestaurant. sadly, that time has passed. i lived for a total of four years in germany before setling in an otherwise great city that has nogermanrestaurant. salt lakers are so fortunate to have siegfried's. i never miss a chance to eat at siegfried's. i once planned an extra long layover at the slc airport so i could run in to town to enjoy some bratwurst with warm potato salad.

today, i was visiting family members who recently moved to the salt lake valley. we all enjoyed a great lunch at siegfied's. those who were new togermanfood stuck to the basics: wienerschitzel, spaetzele with gravy, and fried potatoes. i enjoyed the schweinshaxen with warm potato salad and rotkohl. everything was perfect.

in addition to very authenticgermanfood, siegfried's will validate for one hour of parking at the garage next door. there is also a small store forgermanfood items and a bakery. i have picked up a few items at both the store and bakery, but i come for the hot food.

i wish the menu included jaeger schnitzel and rouladen. however, given the authenticity, quality, and very reasonable prices; i give sigfried's highest possible marks for lunch.

authentic for utah. every time i'm in slc, i go to siegy's.
the service is pleasant if you're respectful, fast, and mindful of others. most of the older servers are delighted if you order ingermantoo, but if you decide to keep anyone waiting, they won't be shy to give you a nasty look.
bad service is completely avoidable.
regardless, siegfried's is still very authentic considering it's outside of germany, especially in utah. a lot of the dishes might not exactly be what you're used to if you've grown up with realgermanfood, but considering how rare it is to find goodgermaneats here, there's not much room to complain.

german food is difficult to recreate here in the us. i lived in germany for 8 years and go back as often as i can for the eats. switzerland too, very similar with the cheese twist. it is my opionion thatgermanfood is the most overlooked cuisine on the entire eu continent. it gets out-flanked by the flairy italians and phoofy french, but it is everybit as good and interesting to try and you won't be hungry an hour later - i guarantee it. it must be hard to replicate or is a misunderstood food here in this country....

i went to a highly touted "german" restauraunt in a large wisconsin city in february and wondered what part of germany they were trying to represent on the menu - perhaps that from agermanprison? it really sucked the big one - too many family generations of chefs removed from the fantastic original dishes i guess. they beer was good, but it's hard to screw up beer.

i find it very, very difficult and frustrating to find authenticgermandishes here in the us. they often sound like something you might recognize on the menu, but when it comes, you find yourself quite disappointed with the outcome. sigi's is pretty close on most counts, given the limited, buffet style service, but still no cigar for a genuine gasthaus. if they had a nice rahm or jaegar sauce for the schntizel, i might have rated this place higher. the rotkohl is also darn close on taste, but even i can do better at home given some time to cook the bejesus out of the cabbage. of course, they have the brat's and potato dishes, but still no curry bratwurst, a mainstay of the many imbisses along the highways of germany. i miss the imbiss....

filling but not always warming. we wanted warm and filling for a wintry day and we had schnitzel with fried potatoes and red cabbage and goulash with spaetzl. goulash was a hit, schnitzel, as has happened in the past, had some tough spots but servings in general are so large you can just avoid them. cabbage is always quite tasty.

main issue here is usually logistics. we thought this time we had picked an off hour but there was still a substantial line. the persons at the front of the line wait while their meal is assembled ..potentially with the sides cooling as your schnitzel cooks. then it's a short turn waiting for the cashier to fill drink orders, take money and do sales for the grocery items in store. tables are scattered among the grocery shelves and in a back room which has incompletely curtained off storage. all in all, not a place to go for a restful or romantic meal but fine when the occasional yen for comfort food strikes.

p.s. despite listing in guide..this is not a bakery as most people would define the word. there is agermanbakery , vosen's, two blocks west..

realgermanrecipes. i can only compare this restuaurant to the going to the octoberfest. i've lived in germany and i am married to agermanwoman. sigfried's much like the utah version of the octoberfest, though both are ok, pale when compared to the real deal. my wife purchased the schnizel and she has dubbed it glorified porkchops. my wife also worked at siegfrieds thirty years ago, under siegfried himself, and the restaurant quality has gone down conciderably.

i have also found the majority of the customer service to be lacking. there is one very nice lady who speaksgermanand who is always very nice and provides excellent customer service.

i absolutely treasure my time and siegfried’s deli. the food was incredible. i really want to go back and try their reuben sandwich and perhaps a bratwurst or too. and also if there is enough time go over to thegermanchocolate section and grab a treat or two. (okay i won’t kid you, i’m going to make time for the chocolate). if you are downtown salt lake city and am in need of a lunch, and want to avoid the hornet’s nest that is the city creek food court, take a stroll over to siegfried’s for somegermangoodness. if you want to look like david hasselholf and be awesome, you will go to siegfried’s. this place is “legit” and “chill” (some of my teenage fans shared those

bestgermanfood. i go there to pick up their sauerkraut, because once you've tried it, you can't eat bratwurst or even an average hotdog without it or something's just missing...

their cucumber salad use to be a lot better. it use to have a tangy taste and it wasn't as watery. i would eat there a lot more, but their hours are not easy when you work in sandy.
