aside from this restaurant, the only other indian place i have eaten at is naan 'n' curry which has dirt-cheap indian food. shiva's is a bit on the pricier side, and they have a good-looking bar if you're down to have happy hour here. they have a differen

what a wonderful place. i fell in love with the ambience. beautifully lit up and warm staff.

dal makhni-very nice
tandoori roti-fresh and delicious.

its a really nice place and the staff makes you feel very comfortable. must visit.

tricked into paying $3 extra for buffet

they had a tea thermos sitting at the buffet, there was a sticker in the corner that said tea is not part of the buffet. many people like us assumed that tea is part of the buffet (which is the usual case in other indian buffets). they charged us $3 extra for each tea. the tea was stale and tasteless, we couldn't drink it after a couple of sips. when we pointed it out to the server, she just said sorry and went ahead charging us $3/buffet extra.

you can keep our $6 (for our two buffets), but don't expect us back. this is a bad practice, we will not be shying from warning our friends and family about it.

do you want to be pampered by oozing hospitality this is the place for indian food. bottomless tea pot is my favourite. food was sumptuous and quality uncompromised.

was there for lunch with colleagues, lunch buffet spread was quite decent. it took us ages to stand in the queue and get food. it did kill our time, food section was of poor layout and takes for ever.

also, service was bad, takes too much time to serve naan bread and drink refills.

do watch for extra charges on your bill(i was treated by my colleague) as this place is notorious for wrongful charges.

this is my first food destination whenever i am in mountain view. the restautant is at a perfect location on castro. the ambience is really great and the food is awesome. i also loved the service of the restaurant. so, don't forget this place if you are roaming around castro :)

average lunch buffet place. nothing great. the ambiance is good. food nothing special just the usual stuff. tastewise too its just ok. the service is average too. one thing i like about this place was the ambiance which is pretty good.

the restaurant is quite huge, well located. the service was a little slow. we ordered an apple martini - didn't like it, and matar paneer with roti. the food was good, portions were generous. the decor felt a little outdated and stuffy

lots of options for indian vegetarian food. economical meals, great ambience and polite staff. would not recommend drinking cocktails here though. more options along the street. food is good.

while i personally detest the indian lunch buffet offerings at most indian restaurants in the u.s. ( boring options, one curry recycled across multiple dishes so they all taste the same, overeating without really enjoying anything in particular) , shiva's was one rare exception. any trips to the bay area were incomplete without the sunday buffet at shiva's! for the hapless desi craving close to authentic indian food, shiva's certainly hits all the spots! in particular, loved their freshly prepared dosa counter, which i haven't seen in any other indian buffet, at least not in seattle where i lived.

excellent food. great aloo tikkis. the butter chicken is made perfectly. one of the best places tosatisfy your cravy for desi food. the service is exemplary.

excellent. good variety. perfect naan. very good food. best service on castro. ask for "kabi"... he's a very good waiter and anticipates your needs without interruption. best meal i've had all week.

after reading some of the other reviews, my expectations were kinda low. fortunately i was pleasantly surprised. really good food and atmosphere at a surprisingly reasonable price.

shiva's makes a buttery smooth seafood curry, with prawns and sea bass, in a mellow sauce of coconut milk and curry leaves, a "madras" curry kind of concoction.
