busy, but good and inexpensive. i'm a big fan of middle eastern food, so i was looking forward to trying shish. you place your order at the counter, then seat yourself at a table. we had trouble finding an open table, but a waiter noticed this and cleared out a pair of hipsters surfing on their laptops and nursing a soda between the two of them. i must say that after reading some of the reviews, i was pleasantly surprised by the service- the waiter was very attentive and helpful. the food was prepared fairly quickly, and brought to us as each dish was prepared, not all at once.
we tried the gyros sandwich, hummus with chicken shawarma, babaganoush, cheese and spinach pies, and the veggie shishwich. the hummus and chicken shawarma were excellent (my 5-year old couldn't stop eating it), with a large portion of chicken and a very nice fresh green salad. the gyro was also very good and very large considering how inexpensive it is. we barely touched the babaganoush, which we normally love; this version was too coarse, oily, and smoky for our tastes. the pies were made with beautifully flaky, light phyllo: the cheese pie was very good, though a bit sweet. the spinach pie was disappointing- way too bitter, and i think they used frozen spinach in the preparation. the veggie "shishwich" would have been a home run, except for the fact that it was so watery- they need to let the roasted vegetables rest and give up a bit of their liquid before putting it into the sandwich.
overall, not the best or most authentic middle eastern food i've had, but still a good experience. i'm sure we'll be back.

love shish. sheeh-who are the 7% of people here that don't love shish? love the crab cakes benedict at breakfast, and the cheese pies are a religious experience, as are the soups.

i'm officially obsessed. i've tried the turkish coffe, falafel and gyro wrap, as well as the gyro on pita. all soooo good! i can't wait to go back and try some more options.

so good.. shish is fantastic! i've sampled the maza mix (baba ganoush is transcendent), the gyro, and the rice. the rice is a little lacking in flavor, but the rest is flavorful and so hard to stop eating! dh usually gets a burger, and even the fries are uniquely flavored and so good dipped in toum. it's very casual with tables very close together, but given the culture of the food it works. sometimes you get ideas of what to order by looking at the table next to you. i haven't sampled the desserts yet (always too stuffed), but they look great and i will someday!

if you go later in the day for lunch or dinner, the menu on the wall has blue dots for all the gf options, and there are a lot of them. for whatever reason, the breakfast menu didn’t have these little codes.

scrumptious!!. there were several of us attending a conference who were staying at macalester college. this delightful place was half a block from our dorm. portions are generous, and they have a goodly number of typical american dishes also. several of us found the place for breakfast the first day and came back every day thereafter - it was that good. for people like me who like pitas feta cheese, tabouleh, and hummous, it was fantastic! try the turkish coffee for a special treat?

shish is an order at the counter type of establishment so we took our place in line and began to scan the overwhelmingly long menu. the chalkboard menu at shish takes up the better half of an entire wall — that’s just the lunch and dinner menu. there are two additional boards (breakfast and dessert/drink menus) hanging above the front counter. when it comes to mediterranean food, i’m not well versed. i usually go with my trusty standby, the falafel. so, i was

great food, great prices! vegetarian friendly. shish has amazing food at very reasonable prices. there are many options for vegetarians and vegans. the food can come out really quick. shish has good coffee and tea options. seating is comfortable and a nice back room that is more quiet. the falafel at shish is the best i have had anywhere in any city. i travel a lot and nothing compares to shish's falafel, it has the perfect amount of spice, delicious tahini sauce, and cooked to perfection. to get a feel for what shish has to offer, try the maza mix, it is like a sampler appetizer plate served with warm pita bread. and their desserts are dangerously good.

fresh food. good prices, fresh food. lots of variety in terms of platters, sandwiches/wraps, drinks, pastries. tasty baklava, nice and crisp, not too sweet or sticky. service was friendly but food coming out was a bit slow.

7.5 / 10. my girlfriend and i just got back from shish. we had the maza mix as an app which was ok; it's good humus, decent pita bread, and a lot of filler for the $. then for a main course, i had the kefta kebab which i thought might be a kebab, but instead it was a over-glorified parsley hamburger on delicious saffron rice. my girlfriend had the green curry, which was very very good. we finished with some delicious peanut butter cake chocolate turtle cake and some chilled horchata. the place was very busy, but service was responsive and quaint. it did feel uncomfortable when it got so busy that people were eying up our booth. needless to say i am now fat and full. so i give it an 7.5/10. worth trying again.

looove this place!! gets very busy though, and parking can be a hassle. those are my only disclaimers, and they are nothing to do with the food
