progress and a step back at scuttlebutt!. during our last visit i was heartened by seeing that scuttlebutt had added new menu items to their menu. i tried the meatball grinder and it was a terrible sandwich. it consisted of those really terrible meatballs you get from the freezer case and marinara sauce from a can. they don't bother to make their own meatballs or even try to embellish their tomato sauce with any herbs or spices. the best part of the meal was the salad i had as my side. i saw this guy watching the staff during our visit and, since i had worked in restaurants before i figured he was the manager, i was right. i asked him about the grinder sandwich and he said it was a popular new menu item.
i don't see why anyone would want to order it more that once. again, it was really terrible!
my wife had another of the new menu items. she had the pastrami and cheese sandwich with red bell pepper on a pretzel bun. she said it was very good.
beer and service were good as usual!

another great visit to scuttlebutt!. i had the bbq chicken bacon cheddar burger and my wife had the fish and chips. both meals were spot on with the quality and the service was wonderful as usual.

brand new and very shiny scuttlebutt brewery open now(on sundays, too!). 6-23-13 review

service: grade a
food: i had the bbq cheddar and bacon burger. nice big chicken breast with tillamook cheddar cheese and two big pieces of bacon with fries on the side: grade a+
my wife had the two piece fish and chips. grade b (the tartar sauce was spicy!)
we both had a maibock for our beer.
met a cute puppy. what could be better?

went to the new, larger scuttlebutt restaurant/brewery today located in the port of everett building. the menu and the beer are unchanged as are the prices for saidfoodand beer. scuttlebutt had 15 tables at the old pub and they have easily doubled their capacity with the move. large windows let in plenty of light and there is plenty of comfortable seating and they can provide seating for large groups. they have a room you can rent for special events and for those of you who want a mixed drink there is now a bar area. margartia, anyone?
the fish and chips were good and the steak, bacon and cheese sandwich was solid but it needed something to "punch" the flavors up a bit.
the service was fast and friendly and thefoodarrived quickly after we ordered.
i wrote in my first review that i hoped nothing would change after the move. but i feel with this new space the moved into they will have to eventually up the ante on type offoodthey serve. i feel they are going to have to at least have some dinner and lunch specials with some out of the ordinary items to keep it interesting for the customers.
old review:
i really like the ales they serve and thefoodand service is really good the times i have been in ($2.00 beers from 2 to 6 p.m. m thru f. yay! happy hour portions are large!) it's not the most elegant place to eat. in fact, its like eating in a well, what the building was originally intended for, some type of office/boat supply building that would serve the everett marina that it is located at and there is no view of the marina but you do have a lovely view of the railroad tracks across th street if you sit at the 2 outdoor tables. there is alot of memorabilia on the walls from the us naval station that is down the street.
this is a eatery that will be in flux very soon. they will be moving to another location on the waterfront in everett in april 2011 it will be interesting to see how scuttlebutt morphs into this new phase of existence.
things to love: great beers(10 below is my fave, porter and the hefe are really good too!)! great food(check out the calamari, reuben sandwich, fish and chips..omg!..fries are really good too.
i hope nothing changesfoodand beer wise when they move later on in 2011.

somefoodgood, some not so great. stick to fried things like coconut shrimp, onion rings, seafood platter, clam strips. the dill salmon was pretty tasteless, but the potatoes & green beans were good. cod sandwich also good. danielle was a great waitress. good happy hour specials & beer.

thefoodis good, but the service can be appalling. slow, non-attentive waiters. last time we were there, our waiter was a young girl, seriously, about 12 years old. we were mystified. it's convenient to the base in everett, but otherwise not worth going out of your way.

great happy hour. there seasonal beers are really the exceptional ones, thefoodis fairly priced good bar food. the weekday happy hour is great, it starts at two and there are a lot of great snack options to pair with your beer. miss the old place, but the beer andfoodare the same.

very goodfoodand great local beer. scuttlebutt brews one of the better beers in the area. thefoodis very good and reasonably priced. i highly recommend the philly cheesesteak. you won't be dissappointed. the old location had a really great atmosphere, but the new place can hold more customers, so not worry waiting for a table.
