i had the thai beef on rice. bad grub is a better description. still a friendly neighbourhood pub. food quality needs be addressed and the sooner the better!

tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday with a couple of friends and my boyfriend. i had the classic poutine, it was really good. the service was very good too, but my boyfriend had some sort of chicken wrap and he started being sick a couple hours later. he was puking all night long until 3-4 am and he also had severe fever and was trembling. after talking with the health line ontario, we concluded he had food poisoning because we both ate the same things previously to that meal. definetely their was something wrong with the cooking of the chicken or not enough precautions taken with food manipulation. very disappointing experience.

29/4/16 friday night disaster. drunk server, shouting and rude. food was lousy. used to be a fun spot, not now. place is dirty, broken floor and chairs. came with friends, embarrassing.

love almost everything about this place. staff are great, the food is so good. their specials are always yummy, especially the gumbo! mmmm make that stuff more often please. their side serving of spinach is huge at brunch which is fantastic. there is one unfortunate drawback...their coffee. you guys are doing everything else sooo well. buy some good dark roast beans please. or a little espresso machine for americanos, i would definitely pay for a better coffee. the current coffee used is almost bad enough to ruin the fantastic food. i'll still be back though, the food is good enough to switch to morning tea once a week.

what an amazing, authentic local haunt. both the service, the food and the value are top notch and after my first visit, it was clear to me it would become a regular dinner option. 10$ beer pitcher, a 15$ burger that was the double the size of your average pub burg and an amazing array of homemade dipping sauces. it's in the middle of nowhere so you know that it has to be good in order to survive. on the random thursday we went the place was hopping and were lucky to grab the last table. can't recommend it enough!

for me, what can make or ruin a good breakfast is the basics. people in ottawa are used to good coffee, and at the very least home fries need to be fresh. shlg needs to do better much better with both. serving bridgehead coffee and elevating the home fries would restore my faith.

a special neighbourhood pub. when someone cares about what they do, it shows. the food at shlag is always creative and delicious, they serve generous portions, and the prices are very reasonable. that it's in my own 'hood makes it extra special. bravo!

just ok. average food and average prices. being new to sandy hill, i want to experience all local establishments. the reviews on this site paint a much better picture than what i experienced.

great pub food. one of the best places to have chicken wings in town. service is top notch and friendly. a regular wednesday (wing night) hangout!

disgusting!!!. if you love deep fried pickles as much as i do......get as far away from this place as possible! imagine eating dried out paper that has been soaking in brine and then salted so much a dead person would get sick on it....that comes close to what you can expect from this place. i asked my table mate to try them in case i was being biased having enjoyed the pickles from the royal oak at length. his assessment: like eating sweaty cock......'nuff said.

fantastic. 9 times out of ten your going to get a moderately priced meal that is going to be packed with flavor and great portions i've had one poor dining experience but besides that it's almost always great. it's really nice to see a great restaurant open up in the heart of sandy hill

great neighbourhood pub. i took my family here on thanksgiving weekend and had a very pleasant dinner. this is a relaxed place that enriches the whole neighbourhood. we'll be back.

love this place. one of the best vegie burgers i've ever had, their butter chicken poutine is yummy too! this place is a 5 min walk from my house so i'm there all the time. people are starting to realize how good it is and now they are busy all the time! oh well they deserve the business :)
