i was disappointed.  growing up in a country where there are many fantastic fish dishes, i had high hopes for this establishment after reading reviews.  but unfortunately it was not up to the standard and i felt like this restaurant is trying too hard or trying to be different without much success.  sea urchin on crumpet - sea urchin tasted strange and a sweet crumpet and sea urchin did not go well together.  fish ham - i liked the idea of it but fish ham needed something more than sitting pretty on the dish. i would have liked condiments or veg that work with each ham.  mains.   mains took a very long time to come out.  though they were nicely cooked but for the mains ranging upwards of $40, again my high hopes were crashed.  i could not shift the feeling that i would have been fed at the same level of dish for half the price elsewhere.   chips - they were too salty.  the waiter basically ignored us while they were busy taking care of other customers around us but not us, so it did not leave a good impression on the service either.   it is not worth spending $100+ per person for this level of dish.  i will not gobackthere.

it was a nice sunny sunday and i was going for lunch because of the reputation since it’s opened. but the experience was horrible, i just can’t believe it’s rated 4.7 on zomato! the overrated food is all around the city now with the steep cost! anyway, we (2ppl) ordered 4 oysters, two entrees, one main and one dessert with two glasses wines. the food menu are basically ‘fish’ not a board range of variety. the wine lists are below the standard, barely good to choose. we wait for a long time each gap, even the table came at the same time already billed and left. the oysters and entrees (tuna in pepper & john dory liver on toast) were good, the wines (gamay $20 per glass & chardonnay $30 per glass) were at average level. however the main (john dory) was the nightmare. it’s completely raw inside! even the fish meat were stick to the bone! we asked the waitress a and she said it’s supposed to be like this! we should have flip it over to let it cook further on table! we just couldn’t believe it and asked another waitress b, she said it’s bit raw and return to the kitchen. a camebackfrom the kitchen and said the same thing again, and we should have eaten the head part first and let the middle part cook a bit further! b asked us for another main and offered additional free dessert. we order the ‘very save’ fish and chip (which is it good) and reject the offer since we already got one dessert ordered. eventually i cancelled the dessert after the main and asked for bill. they charge the fish and chip (more expensive) instead of the john dory, although it’s just three dollar difference. i give my feedback to b said there’s no indication of instructions when serving to the customer and it’s obviously raw. you can’t put all the responsibilities on the customers because you need to keep your reputation and you are too good to say sorry. i can accept fault, anyone do, but it’s the attitude after your fault. even without an apology after serving a raw fish in such good reputation restaurant. and the charge is not making any sense, i order fish and chips because your faulty john dory. i’m not asking to free the mains but at least you should have charged the right thing. after this serious complaint b sincerely apologised and free those two mains. it was the day, and i would prefer cooking myself at home more instead of dining out for those overrated ‘foodie’ & ‘ig’ restaurant with steep cost, low quality and no service at all!

if want to try something new and have an unusual seafood experience the saint peter in paddington is definitely the place to go for.
they change the menu every day so all pictures and comments can be taken as a guide only.
firstly, you better make a booking before you go there.
amazing knowledgeable and careful staff, they know answers for all your questions, will recommend you want to try and how to eat.
and now about the food- they took the seafood to the next level and now making it as an art. you should definitely start with their oysters and pick a few of them to try. we then took mackerel with beetroot and cherries, kingfish with green cherry tartar and john dory liver with sweet and sour white radicchio and macadamia. they all sound unusual but the way how the tastes are blended together surprised us in an undesirable but good way.
all dishes are recommended to share.
will defy gobacksoon again.

in short: if you have only one seafood dining experience, be sure to have saint peter at the very top of the list. josh niland’s little space on oxford street is exciting with dishes that pay respect to the ingredient and champions it in ways few others can at the moment. our tip, oysters and the pikelets with sea urchin. a brunch and dinner menu means that you should comebackat least twice.

saint peter boasts a genuine love and appreciation of seafood, so much so that 99% of its menu is curated around showcasing seafood in its best form. each dish has a different flavour and highlights the protein well.

while some dishes amazed me, others didn’t meet expectations. the raw diced mullet served in crunchy little pockets was a memorable dish and a great start to the night! the coorong pippies and saint peter xo sauce was so simple but packed a great flavour punch. however, the cobia fillet served with brand and belly bacon was rather flat in terms of flavour and didn’t live up to the sp standard.

overall, good service, decent food. keen to perhaps comebackand check out its normal menu, seeing as i came for the valentine’s special menu.

for someone who doesn't love seafood, i really really love this place. food and service were impeccable. we had oysters and crab as entrees, the dory, mahi mahi and broadhill for mains and the chocolate brownie for dessert. they all tasted lovely, so perfectly done! i would definitely comebackagain!

wentbackand finally dined there. front of house is truly pathetic and wonder whom they paid or partied with to get considered for any awards. the food side is great, not so memorable but good. the cocept and executing is conflicting, such crap quality sea urchin for a place that is meant to be all about seafood. it's a nice local restaurant if the staff know you.

visit 1: it's a shame that some venues hire such an incompetent group of people to look after the floor. second time in my life to ever walk out of a venue, first time in over a decade and the first time i didn't feel bad doing so.
if i ever bump someone or accidentally knock something on someone's table, i would expect to acknowledge it and apologise. if this was a customer of a a business, you bloody dam well should. if the head/senior water need to rush around so much focusing on a select few tables he is useless to your business. you can't always judge a book by it's cover. sure you swiftly took another tables food and drinks order ever so attentively due to them looking the part due to them being western and middle age, however forgetting to serve the water order you took on another table and ignoring the customer's attempt to order a bottle of wine because you're too busy serving a glass of wine to the table you decided requires your attention for the night. so you leave your incompetent team guiding the remaining diners to be read out the whole main menu when asked for suggestions. the most pathetic attempt of selling a menu.

saint peter is a remarkable seafood restaurant in paddington which serves some out-of-the-world brunches and pastries. the cozy and comfortable hatted restaurant pushes the boundaries of a stagnating (or declining) culinary scene in sydney and it must be a permanent fixture on everyone's bucket list for breakfast.

located in a long shophouse on oxford street and within a four hundred meter radius of 10 william, paddington, lucio's and four-in-hand, the restaurant features a stripped interior with a combination of polished concrete, sandstone and exposed brick walls. the simple restaurant attracts you immediately with its down-to-earth vibe and some extremely friendly service team.

the nondescript crab meat was fishy and buttery. served in its furry shell, it appears drab and unappetizing. however, when i scooped them onto the house-made crumpet and took a bite of the warm, salty and buttery crumpet, a gazillion neurotransmitters were released and immediately lifted my mood. amazing! this is one of the few memorable dishes ever, just like tetsuya's ocean trout and cirrus' parfait.

the passionfruit and lemon tart absolutely stupendous too. the nice, acidic custard-like tart combines flawlessly with the crispy tart to give an explosion of flavours. the nice white cream thens wrap your tastebuds to prevent the punchy flavours from becoming too overwhelming.

i will comebackagain and see if their dinner is worth my buck. go, saint peter!

an interesting yet underwhelming meal of seafood....in short we expect a lot better for $130 lunch :(

so let's begin with the oysters...four types is a good start but while there was undeniable freshness, we wouldn't say they were the best oysters...?

sea urchin donut...hmm two delicious bites but...does this donut really add anything or we just being fancy with dough...felt gimmicky :(

the spanner crab...not the most attractive dish....yes the pieces of crab were lovely but nothing was really marrying it together with the crumpet...almost like something was missing...again just feels like we're being served fancy brunch and not really selling us - we can cook seafood :(

finally the octopus...a great dish, where things on the plate work well together to actually give us a rich experience; this bumped you up to a 3.

we had so much expectation coming in...thinking about maybe we would have to comebackfor dinner as there were a lot of things we wanted to try...and we were on our second lunch....but yea nope! we don't want to ride the roller coaster again and not for that price tag....

some good some bad....so if you wanna feel a bit fancy....come here and roll the dice :)

if you love seafood this restaurant is a gem! we had a lovely sunday lunch here a few weeks ago, it's a small restaurant with not many tables and it focuses entirely on fish with a menu that changes daily.
we had sweet and sour mackerel on toast, delicious. then we had a 9 days aged kingfish dish and the trout with egg dish. the fish was cooked to perfection, the combinations of ingredients worked perfectly, portions were a good size. we also had a side of kipfler potatoes with sour cream and fish roe that were sooo delicious. a lemon curd tart to finish was simple but perfectly executed. can't wait to gobackand try new dishes.

i could probably end this restaurant review at that because i’m fairly sure i make a song and dance about sea urchin (or uni if you prefer) often enough that you know the routine. it’s also the sole reason i was instantly drawn to saint peter, which was coming about around the time i was making my waybackto sydney at the end of europe. closer inspection revealed an almost 100% seafood menu
