great service, great food. awesome location, love the atmosphere. spectacular service, and the food was awesome. we ordered steak and fish with a crawfish stuffed crab cake for our appetizer. everything was delicious.

i’ve been coming here on and off for 13 years. it’s where i chose to have my graduation dinner, my 30th birthday dinner, and my best friends and i meet up here annually. i feel like root cellar just gets better every year. i can’t recommend root cellar enough. i’ve had every single vegetarian item on the menu (including the mimosa flights lol), and i’ve never had anything i wouldn’t order again.

perfect, especially for the value. the menu has many exciting possibilities that we would love to explore. we started with the beer bread and honey butter. we had the kids mac and cheese as an app (carb loading). the waitress was friendly and made some suggestions that were excellent. we had the salmon special which had flash fried carrot tops as a garnish. so yum. we also had the seafood scampi which was perfect. our waitress made a custom lite version of an italian creme soda that was exactly just right, not too sweetsy. in all it could not have been better for the very reasonable prices.

the night started off with a small hiccup because the hostess forgot to call us when our table was ready. we came back after the estimated time anyway and they had a table ready for us. the situation worked itself out. it was a perfect size menu- not to overwhelming, and they had an additional small seasonal menu. we ordered the cherry wasabi tuna for an appetizer and it was extremely good. they paired a sweet cherry sauce, wasabi sauce, and spinach with the tuna and it all worked together perfectly. for entrees, we ordered the pork chop with horseradish potatoes and the chicken prosciutto sandwich with a side salad of baby bleu (an extra charge). the pork chop was a bit over cooked, but everything else was amazing. highly suggest the sandwich and salad i ordered. for dessert we ordered the grasshopper pie and vanilla ice cream. the grasshopper pie (mint) had perfect consistency and wasn't an overwhelming flavor. overall, it was so great and we'll definitely come back!

absolutely amazing!!!! great food, great atmosphere great service, great prices. what more can you ask!!!! variety flavored mimosas. this cute, low key spot is definitely a must see and eat!!!😋😋😋

the ailoli sandwhich is the best! service is always great. my friend got the pork loin and i was excellent. if u ever see the apple pie (seasonal) u should get it, best in the world hands down. they forgot the bacon on my club sandwhich, quick fix though, the bacon was especially awesome. the eggs florentine lacked salt and general flavor, prob bc of the hollandaise sauce, didn't seem great.

dinner with my wife for the first time at the root cellar cafe.  loved the atmosphere and we were greeted with big smiles all around.  we were lucky enough to arrive at the end of happy hour and started with the artichoke dip and white sangria.  both excellent and the dip was served with gluten free chips upon request.  dinner was outrageously tasty!  i had the seafood scampi on top of linguini and it was cooked to perfection with scallops, shrimp and mussels.  my wife had the wid caught alaskan salmon with risotto and veggies and it was awesome as well.  very informative server who made excellent suggestions and an overall great dining experience.  will most definitely be back!

one warning, this will not be a quiet dinner as conversations tend to blend together.  we did have a crying child near us that made it worse but the food definitely made us forget about it pretty quickly!

should have gone to smashburger.  if you like paying $10 for a "house recipe" burger with pesto on ciabatta and a few potato chips this is your kind of place.  won't be going back.

try it, you'll like ir. good food, good brews (made in house), very reasonable prices and attentive service. skip the chains and try local spots.

i had the hearty frittatta, which on this day was loaded with chunks of turkey, provolone cheese, and zucchini. the generous slice was fluffy and cheesy and really tasty. it was accompanied by sautéed grape tomatoes, a toasted english muffin, and spiced wild blueberry jam. we splurged for a side of bacon, which was thick-cut and salty and perfectly crisp. this was an outstanding brunch dish.

the root cellar was such a welcome surprise to all the hyped and overrated restaurants in central texas, maybe most people don't know what good food and good beer taste like but i do. i will return again and again. i had the bourbon pecan chicken and their home brew porter and it was a match made in heaven.

the beer bread with honey butter was totally awesome dude. the portions were generous in an excellent way. i would definetly recommend this place to all my surfer dudes. hang ten and two thumbs up!

5 star food at a 3 star price. this just became one of my favorite places to eat. the food was great and it was reasonably priced. highly recommend this place.

this is the best place to eat in san marcos!

a diamond. this place is amazing whether you're eating dinner or lunch.
