few restaurants in the world deserve 5 stars, this one, being owned by a dutch couple and transformed into actual authentic indonesian restaurant, definitely does. we grew up with javanese cuisine, eat indonesian food regularly and understand the food is different on the many different islands of indonesia.
the food here reminded us of home. the peanut sauce is not your typical western peanut sauce (which we call fake) but the real deal. we had the fish and vegetarian rijsttafels and also soto ayam. the soto was actually made from 🐔 by slowly cooking it's bone. we were surprised to learn the husband, dutch white guy, did the cooking. don't be mistaken, this is not a couple assuming to be able to cook indonesian. they actually had many cooking lessons on several islands of indonesia and spend lots of time traveling through indonesia. they still go back regularly and keep learning more and more about the food. they probably have much more knowledge about indonesian food than most indonesian chefs. they have to cope with the fact many ingredients are not available but in our opinion they did very well with local ingredients. napier is blessed with this dutch couple and their humbleness. a visit to their restaurant is a must do in indonesia. anyone saying bad stuff about the food is either talking about a different place (its 3 yrs old or less) or has no clue.
