missed the reputation of ratna cafe... it is famous for it's sambar... not right now... dissappointed... decent ambience... not the best... #iam_kailash

great place fro breakfast..

we have been there on sunday early morning just after they have opened.

we were surprised to see almost full house..

this place has been famous for thier sambar which even they acknowledge with posters across the restaurant.

we ordered pongal, sambar idly, medu vada for breakfast.

pongal was yummy👌
vada was crispy from outside and soft from inside 👌
sambar idly was clear winner with best sambar i ever tasted for breakfast 👌👌👌

indeed sambar here is very very good.

the one thing that i noticed is their poster about using double refined oil and ghee. they boast of good ingredients (70% organic).

then we ordered jilabi which was fried in hot ghee it was just awesome.

customary coffee was also good

this place is very good and highly recommended for thier great food and service. only hiccup being little bit high on money which can be ignored as they serve good and well made food.

service 5/5 ( special mention on service, we asked for jilabi was told it available after some time but before we were served coffee, the waiter anna came back and asked us if we are still interested to have jilabi, this doesn't happen often that they remember your request and comeback).

one of the best places to have idly and sambar... mini idly was better compared to the normal one.. i was shocked to see the vessel he used to pour sambar for a plate... if you are a sambar lover who loves to make the idly float in sambar, well this is the right place for you..

this has been my go to place for a very long time. i go here almost every time i visit parthasarathy temple in triplicane. it is more than a mess but less than a hotel imo which serves comfort food at a price that is not very steep. i might choose to have some fancy food from time to time. but, at the end of the day, it is typical south indian rice based food that i crave for.

it is crowded most of the time. and they serve piping hot sambar in large pans which is a trademark of this place. idly and sambar is famous here. idli here, in my opinion, is different from the usual idly. it has the consistency/texture of rava (semolina), if it makes any sense. when you take a piece, and dip it in sambar it almost melts.

a good place overall that provides comfort food. would be happy to recommend this place to anyone who likes idli sambar. but, everyone’s taste is different. so, this is purely my opinion. 🙂

the best sambhar idly of my life! idly was good but the taste of sambhar was ultimate! it was so unique and amazingly tasty that i ordered another plate for myself. that was just heaven. after that i had filter coffee which was equally amazing and energetic. the froth over the coffee was so tasty. this place is the oldest serving idly sambhar in the city (1943). when you go to chennai, don't forget to visit here.

sambar idly is what comes to my mind when anyone says ratna cafe !!!

i've been here thousands of times just to have idly sambar. they are too good at it, the most delicious sambar in chennai i can say. just order a plate of idli the waiter will bring you a 2 idlis and 1 big mug of sambar and pour it all on top of the idlis. 

the other dishes here are just average nothing tastes as good as hot idly and hot sambar here. parota kurma, dosa, poori, vada f.coffee all are just average wont recommend any other dish here.

lunch meals are pretty decent no complaints taste and quantity good, but i love spicy so will prefer national lodge.
