do not go here if you want authentic ramen . this is a chinese owned restaurant and the taste reflects it . we were unimpressed at the moment we entered the restaurant . based on the high ratings online, we thought we found a gem . boy were we wrong . weird musky smell when we first walked in, empty, silence....minus the occasional cantonese conversation from the kitchen. the food was fine, but not when you are expecting japanese ramen. gyozas were seared nicely but it does not come with a dipping sauce. you create your own sauce with the white vinegar and shoyu that is provided on your table . i guess they want a "create-your-own-taste" kinda feel. the washroom is outside and around the building. but we have to give props to the washroom which was nicer in appearance than the restaurant . my suggestion, avoid if you want real ramen, come on in if you don't mind fusion ramen while eating in a funky smelling restaurant.

overall, rai rai has a great thing going on: great quality noodles, several great brothes, good meats, and reasonable prices. i’d be glad to go back for more (indeed, we did, a week later, on one of our last meals before heading back to the mainland). it’s one of the best places to eat on the windward side of the island.

used to go here all the time with my bf and loved it. i was shocked when i called in an order that was usually $25 and was now $35. they jacked up their prices on everything this place should now have a $$ instead of a $. seems like they went under new ownership or something because when i called the order in it wasn't the same person who always answered the phone so maybe that's why the prices have changed. anyway, we go to ramen-ya in hawaii kai now they're cheap (like rai rai used to be) and give lots of food. they also have locations at pearl city gateway and queen kaahumanu center. if you live near these places, i highly suggest going to ramen-ya instead! you won't be disappointed!

not the same at kapahulu.... stay away from the kapahulu restaurant with the same name. great chinese style cooking, unfortunately it should be a japanese ramen shop. i tried to fortify my yakisoba with tonkatsu sauce which turned out to be very old ketchup (it had turned brown). they do not take credit cards, even though there is no signage indicating so. it's the worst.

our favorite!. we live just down the street and walk over there often for ramen and gyoza for our family. cash only but can't beat the quality and quantity of food for the price. one of our top kailua picks.
