banoffee pie heaven. when visiting richmond for a graduation this may, we stopped atproperpie for a snack. it had come well recommended by a local so we thought we'd give it a try. there were 7 of us and we all ordered something different. i ordered the banoffee pie which was out of this world. my nephew-in-law had the strawberry rhubarb pie and liked it very much. i don't think anyone was unhappy with their selection. it is a small place so don't think that you are going to be able to sit down and relax. it is really set up for take out. there are a few small chairs and a long table along the front window with bar stools. do not pass it up. you will love it.

my husband and i ate at theproperpie company for the first time this past saturday, april 23, 2016. since then we have eaten there twice more times. the savory pies are every bit as delicious as the sweet pies with wonderful combos of beautifully cooked meats mixed with veggies. the crust is sublime on every pie we've tried. i would gladly intern there for free for a few weeks to learn the secret of those crusts! i broke my leg in 3 places requiring 2 joint replacements, 4 separate surgeries so while cooking is not just a necessity in our home, it was a pleasure and i have mastered several different cuisines w/ complex flavor profiles, grow my own herbs, and being a southern born and raised woman, i grow my own heirloom tomatoes and other veggies but since my accident, unfortunately, my gardening has fallen by the wayside and cooking is a pain in the a**. finding this restaurant has been an answer to a prayer. thank you, kiwi and i hope you are happy here, open another branch next door to my home, and much continued success. jen ps make me a huge tiramisu....not technically a pie but i'd love to experience your take on it!

i would eat here every day.. i love coming here. they have consistently good pies. i think my favorite is the mince meat. they also do a great job with their vegetarian options, and i always grab their lentil pies when they have them. my only complaint is i wish they were open more! the 12-7 timeframe is pretty constricting, and after a hard day at work on monday, i always want to stop byproperpie, but i can't! i wish they would change it to 11-8pm; i'd be in there much more.

poor pies part 2. fyi: i did finally received an email from miss nilki and they stated they would refund my purchase.

poor pies. i wish i would have read some of these reviews before going toproperpie for the first time. i purchased a full-size pie of apple and blueberry filling for $34. hindsight being 20/20 i wish i would've tasted the pie before purchasing. the reason i purchased a pie from them just because i was looking for a blueberry pie from my father which i have a hard time finding richmond. my father has an affinity for good food having been a dining facility manager in the us army for 22 years.when we both tried a slice each, the flavor no way met the price. to be honest, had i sampled before i purchased, i would not have. my father equivocates the filling to be that of something called catch which he says is a cheep and poor choice substitute purchased in grocery stores. when i tried to reach a person/manager named nikki, she would not return my calls. it is my recommendation that my family and friends not visit this store.

in summaryproperpie is super great! the atmosphere is less bakery, more to-go dinner and the staff were all incredibly friendly. we’d all make more conservative drink choices our time through, but our pies were all good to great. that said we’d all go back and try something new. their menu is always changing and there are loads of great options to explore. the price for a full lunch (sweet, savory and drink) was steeper than our average, but worth it for a special occasion. all in all it was a great place to celebrate 150 and catch up with a good friend.

i dream of pie!. where to begin??

first of all, it's delicious! if you live in richmond, eat atproperpie. if you visit richmond, eat atproperpie. if you drive within 50 miles of richmond, take a detour for the sole purpose of eating atproperpie - it's that good!

aside from the microwaveable store-bought potpies (which totally don't count), the first savoury pie i ate was in zimbabwe during a holiday. it was simple, just chicken and mushroom in a thick gravy, wrapped in a fluffy pastry. my first bite my eyes were opened to the wonders of meat pies.

sad to say, when i'm in the states, there isn't easy access to real savoury pies... that is, not untilproperpie company opened their doors! so far i've tried their:

steak & vegetable
pork & apple
chicken & kumara
broccoli & cheddar
smoked salmon & leek
pork chile rojo
lentil & mushroom

all have been outstanding, and a few have made their way into my dreams. i have had less experience with the sweet pies and desserts, as i can't seem to stop ordering their banoffee pie, which is a toffee, banana-y, graham cracker crusty pie slice of heaven.

do yourself a favor - eat a savoury pie atproperpie company. upon the first bite, the heavens will open above you, angels will descend singing sweetly, and you will be blessed with the best of luck the rest of your life. and if that doesn't happen, at least you will have had a delicious piece of pie.

i have found the cutest and most unique little place to go and eat lately. i heard about this place from a few friends at work and decided that i had to try it out! the restaurant is call theproperpie company and it is located in downtown richmond on east broad street. the first thing you will notice when you walk up is the line, usually out the door, because they are so popular! this always reassures me that i was making a good choice in trying a new place.  also the other thing you will notice is the crazy amount of options on their menu (so hard to choose!). they have savory and sweet pies available so you can go and get whatever you are in the mood for, which for me usually means getting both. the other great thing that i like is that they have vegan and vegetarian friendly options, which is always really nice to offer, and i know lots of my friends would appreciate that.  at this point, i have be

unique favorite. so i frequent this place a little too much and have spread the word of these wonderful pies quite a bit so i may be a bi biased. however, 99.9% of the time these pies are phenomenal. i have had at least 75% of the menu and really ran into only one let-down. the cornish pasty was rather dry and unflavorful. i'll have to go back again shortly to see if it was just mine, but this one flaw is overshadowed by the numerous savory and often overlooked sweet pies provided byproperpie. this is not one of my more thought out reviews, but i can't stop thinking of the next pie i'll eat. i'll leave you with my top three go-to pies (or almost pies): the sausage roll, chicken & kumara, and steak & cheese. enjoy!
