portofino cucina italiana

we came here late afternoon for a bite before heading back to auckland... the service was great but we were the only ones here... started with garlic pizza bread, fresh garlic and hot so it was ok... then had the seafood marinarapastaand fish of the day .... the seafood sauce was nice ... the fish was gurnard and cooked very well the rice was nice, just abit too much sauce over everything but otherwise it was a nice fresh hot lunch ...

lovely authentic italian cuisine! they're much better than their neighbour italian venue- thepastawas delicious and the pizza was exactly like the pizza i had in italy- will be back! staff were lovely too- it was pricey though but well worth it

i study cookery in wintec, this restaurant has hot food hot plates and it's really clean. actually therepastais same as our recipes, traditional italian food. piazza is fresh and crisp,nice flavor. salad really suit the person who is losing weight, didn't have overdressed, all ingredients are fresh and colorful.
at last, i want to say,their desserts is really nice.you should go for it. i'm not kidding.

i was really in the mood forpastaso we dined at portofino on a busy saturday night. the menu has extensivepastaoptions, along with a number of mains and pizza. we ordered some bread and olives to start, both were delicious and generous. i ordered the scallop rigatoni. our mains took around 40 mins to come, but we were happy chatting so was fine. when the rest of the table was served, i was informed that the kitchen got my order wrong and i had to wait a few more minutes. when it did come, my meal was piping hot but the scallops were over cooked and i thought the sauce was pretty tasteless.
my mum ordered a second glass of wine from the manager but it never came, which was frustrating however our waitress was great and apologised for his mistake.
most of the service was great but my meal was average at best.

the service here was great. the meal was even better. the portion size was generous and the taste is just amazing. i would definitely like to go back and try the other dishes. i had the salmonpastaand it was so creamy but not too heavy.

average. service was average seeing as myself and my friend were the only two in the restaurant. water wasn't topped up and had to ask. had a salmonpastadish was ok not that great considering the price $25. as i could have gone else where for lunch for half the price with better service and food. tried my friends dish she had the cannelloni. it was nicely presented but again expensive and could of had a better cannelloni from furnace which is more affordable. overall disappointed as i had high hopes as this venue is suppose to be an excellent place to dine.

a group of 8 booked in for a ladies lunch at the new portofino here in hamilton which is affiliated with the akld portofino restaurant group. attentive service, fabulouspastadishes(except for the rather ordinary lettucy salads) & smart decor combined to make us all feel rather special.
the trip to the bathrooms almost required a gps navigator but in sum would really recommend it to people wanting a yummy lunch or special dinner out, will definitely be returning for an evening meal.
