great food, not so good service. pokez is cool, affordable and makes amazing food. the vegan/vegetarian options are wonderful. i'm not a vegetarian, but the tofu fajitas and chimichangas are awesome.

the service is slow, but if you know what you're getting into ahead of time, it's easy to overlook given how good the food is.

this is a place that is super friendly to those of us with diet restrictions, or alternative food style choices. i have brought my carnivorous, vegan, and vegetarian friends and we have all been able to find something delicious to eat. since you are in california, eat a california burrito! nothing is better than some delicious avocado in pretty much... anything. i highly suggest this awesome little spot for a fun, and eclectic place to bring friends and family.

although the customer service was great, the food was subpar. i came to this restaurant with big expectations, and it somewhat disappointed me.?

i got a shrimp burrito drenched in sauce with cheese on top. i was expecting the sauce to have a different taste, but for some reason it did not taste very well. the side cabbage was not got either.. it tasted like it was pickled cabbage and i was not expecting that.

what i did like was that their menu consisted of a lot of vegetarian options. i'm sure that comes in handy, especially at a mexican restaurant. they also give you chips and salsa as a starter! those tasted amazing :)

cool place... but food could be better :/

worst restaurant/customer service experience ever. pic of owner included.. ive been around the world eating at different restaurants. not even in a third world country have i ever recieved such bad service. i was just a hungry customer looking for good food and a bit of acknowledgement. not until i asked this woman(the owner) if she worked there that she looked up from her iphone. before that i asked where were the bathrooms, then if our table could get more chips and salsa. not sure about the food, i dont know, i didnt get that far. but its about details. once i asked her if she worked there, she says "yes." i reply, "well i would think if you had a customer in front of you asking questions, you would look up from your phone and acknowledge them." she answers, "i am the owner, i can do what i want." i said, "you still have customers to take care of." i then walk away not trusting the restaurant at this point. as i walk away she continues and says, "yeah walk away." i grab my belongings and walk out of the restaurant. i made it to across the street and the waitress yells to me if i would like to cancel my order. the owner walks up behind her and says, "i already did." she continues to yell at me and says "and dont you ever come back!" also, some various vulgar words that i am not the person to repeat. i believe a restaurant and the employees are a reflection of the owner. i cant imagine if customer service is handled this way, how is the kitchen and cleanliness handled. for the sake of her future customers i hope she is aware of what kind of service makes someone feel. and this does not continue. i found this picture on instagram and i am in shock this woman would conduct business in this manner. i am not one to write reviews until now, i hope this is any help to anyone.

love it. i'm not one to write a review but everything is great. the salsa is actually really good. a really good choice for a quick eat in between classes. as far as the staff they are friendly and authentic. and just to clarify the reviews underneath...no one is excited to be working ever. they do a great job.

great lunch. we tried out pokez because of their reputation for offering vegan and veggie options. pokez did not disappoint! the food was great! except the chips. the chips are mediocre. but the rest of the food is great and worthy of repeat visits to this funky, punky, urban eatery.

i would say there was nothing memorable about the food here and the service was very poor and understaffed. so so many other better mexican choices in sd. 2.6 out of 5 stars

horrible. i ordered to go at this place for lunch and when i got over there, the a****** said he'd never gotten the order and was totally, totally rude. i would not recommend this place to anyone and will certainly never visit again. quite odd that when you try to download their menu, your computer warns you that it's viral -- kinda like the attitude at pokez.

...i wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to seek out pokez, but if you happen to be in downtown san diego and want to go somewhere with a lot of vegan offerings for not much money, it’s not a bad choice.

if you are a vegetarian and want the best tofu burrito of your life, this is the place. i have been here many, many times and never been disappointed. can the service be a little lack luster? at times, yes. but suck it up and go anyway because everything on the menu is good.

average mexican food. i think this place can really be really cool and fun. the wait staff are nice. they don't look like they're enthusiastic about being their though. my husband's veggie burrito was really good - very flavorful. my veggie machaca was very underseasoned and it looked like it was all just thrown on the plate. i think this place has a lot of potential to be great.

best veggie mexican ever!. wow, i really, really like pokez. their portions are ridiculously large and incredibly tasty. i ordered a to-go meal for my wife and i the first time not realizing how big the portions were and was shocked by the two huge bags they handed me. we had enough food for a party. for the low, low price i was totally shocked and then we couldn't believe how delicious the food was. their veggie and vegan options are just superb. a huge potato and tofu burrito smothered in sauce and cheese, wow! rolled tacos, enchiladas, vegan machaca. they are honestly one of my favorite places in sd. somebody here seems troubled by tattoos and hipsters. well, i don't have a tat and it's been a long time since anyone would mistake me for a hipster, since i'm more likely to give off a sort of unintended undercover cop vibe, but i'm just as nice, polite, and respectful to everyone i encounter, regardless of their appearance, and guess what, the people working at pokez are always super nice, friendly, and chatty with me because i'm nice to them. it's not complicated. pokez is a must for anyone that appreciates top quality food served in a genuine environment, prepared and served by real people. leave your elitist credentials at home and you'll have the best mexican meal possible. if you prefer a pretentious and overpriced restaurant with lousy food served with flourishes of nonsense and more attitude than you can muster up yourself, downtown san diego is your kind of place. but, i don't see the need to knock pokez. don't miss out on their unique and delicious menu.

i would love to eat at pokez, except that i tried to go a couple of times with my boyfriend and they were so rude to him. the first time i thought he was imagining things, but we tried again, and with a restaurant full of people, nowhere even remotely near closing time, they told him the kitchen was closed. if you're not a tatted-out hipster, you're clearly not welcome there. i was secretly glad to see that they got their liquor license suspended for serving a minor shortly after that last incident. karma is a beeotch. if sucks though, because the only other veg-mex restaurant i know of nearby is/was ranchos, and i can't tell if they're closed for good or for remodel...
