pluckers wing bar

the service we received this evening was excellent. i mean for a wing bar, it was extraordinary. like a previous reviewer, we too received, as first time patrons, a free sample order of fried pickles, which were excellent. now the wings...they are indeed large and expertly cooked. however, the sauces are really just decent, not great. there is quite a selection, but none are particularly impressive. true, they are the best wings i've ever had in texas, but that's not saying much. basically, the wings themselves out of the fryer are top notch, but the sauces are just so-so. the basic buffalo hot sauce was pretty modest in heat. admittedly, being from the east coast, i am a true wing snob and a hard grader. pluckers impressed me as a solid concept with great service and an attractive atmosphere. looks like a good place to watch a game. but the corporate test kitchen needs to re-work their sauces. 'hot' buffalo sauce should make you tear up and have different layers of heat. really extreme hot wings (for those who dare eat them and the restaurants that brag about serving them) should make you want to curl up in the fetal position and beg for a bottle of pepto. otherwise, you're just posing. garlic wings should have chunks of real garlic and some heat to give it an extra kick. here ends the sermon. good luck, pluckers.

we loved it! not only was the food great (got wings and corn) but the service was amazing. when the manager found out it was our first time at plucker, he gave us free fried pickles (which were so good) and checked on us throughout our meal! great food and great service.

the atmosphere is casual/sports bar. i’ve tried several flavors of their wings and my favorite is the honey bbq. the boneless wings are essentially chicken tenders in wing sauce. the quality of the chicken is very good for a wing bar.

we went on a saturday afternoon at about 3 pm. not crowded but not empty. we were seated promptly and given menus. our server appeared and asked if we had been in before. we hadn't and that threw him a bit. we ask for samples of the wing sauces and ordered our drinks and fried pickles and jalapeños. the sauces came out with celery for tasting. all were actually very good. we ordered garlic parmesan, ginger peach sriracha, lemon pepper and bakers gold. appetizers came out and we're ok but nothing special. then the wings came out quickly and man! they were awesome! they definitely get those right! service was good

since pluckers had some fame (from austin?) we were excited to see it come in the dfw and plano. when it arrived we went a bunch of times because everyone wanted to try it out. but it turns out that mostly its a college bar atmosphere with lots of neon and so much noise we pretty much couldn't talk. that works in some places that have a exciting atmosphere but not here.

but i came back to try it again and was greatly disappointed.

i asked why the flavors went from a heat rating of 2 directly to 4 and 5 with nothing rated 3. the waitress went into make-things-up mode saying how hot their level 2 was (it really isn't). then i asked the difference between the lunch boneless wings ($10.50) and the full boneless wing basket ($12 - except the online menu says $11.50).
i got the full basket in two level 2 flavors, waffle fried, blue cheese sauce, and iced tea.

the iced tea was the best part of the meal.

the waffle fries were so limp i could tie them in a knot and the ketchup was some off-brand (by red-gold). ugh.
the blue cheese sauce was ok except no chunks of actual blue cheese.
the wing coating flaked off into soggy inedible strips. the wings and what flavor remained were ok, but not as hot as promised.

and then the bill came. the wing basket wasn't the $12.00 as the menu said, or the $11.50 the online menu said. instead it was $13.00. by this point i was so disgusted i didn't want the spent the effort to correct them.

maybe the other pluckers are better than the plano one, but i'll probably never find out.

let me start with the fact that they state that the waffle fries are the best....that could not be further from the truth.   they were bland and cold.   go for the fried potatoes or the tater tots.    that said everything else was really good.   the boring burger was anything but boring...make sure you get the sauce on the side that way you can control how much you put on the burger, but it really didn't need it.   we also had the cheech and chong, grilled chicken salad, and the bypass burger and they were all excellent.    service was a pretty good as well.

the wife and i went sunday to watch the cowboys vs packers game with some friends. we showed up late so we missed the first round of ordering, but were quickly taken care of by our server who brought out water for us. unfortunately this would be the last time he did something right for us. since there was only 4 of us at our table, i was not prepared for the amount of errors and excuses we got from our server. since i hadn't eaten all day i ordered a beer and a wing basket right off the bat. the rest of our party waited until later to order some food. he brought out my beer quickly but the wings took a bit longer, which was fine because they were busy. half way through my meal my wife and the rest of our friends order their food which consisted of two appetizers and two meals. when our server finally returned with the food, we were missing one of the appetizers. he appologized for the mix up and admitted that he simply forgot to put in the order. that is fine with me, he owned up to it and appologized and returned very quickly with the missing appetizer. after eating a few bites of everyone elses food, my wife decided to order her own meal, and yet again, it was mysteriously "lost in the back." according to our server. so once again, he had to go and rush one of our items through. once my wifes food finally arrived i ordered one last beer. after our server returned twice to check on us with out my beer, i asked where it was and he again appologized for the delay and went to check on it. when he returned with the beer he tried to play it off as a "lack of my teammates helping me out." now if any of these errors happened on their own, they would be acceptable, most of the serving staff appears to be college age or under after all. but for there to be three errors in one meal shows a lack of effort, concentration, or caring by our server. my wife went and spoke to the manager and we were given a new server who was very polite and professional and actually served us what we ordered in a timely manner.

the only other thing that bothered us was it was very hot inside the restaurant. we were told it was because there were so many people inside that the a/c couldnt keep up. maybe something to think about if you plan on going in the middle of the summer seeing as its the middle of october and it was 80 f when we were there. other than the terrible server we started out with, the food, atmosphere, and beer were great as always. i am a huge fan of their boneless wings and the ranch tossed waffle fries. i dont know if i will go to this one again, i will probably go to the one in allen since it is closer to my house.

overrated to the max . the wings were lukewarm the service was horrible and the wait is unbelievable . there is nothing special about this place besides the atmosphere . the mango habanero wings only tasted sweet and had no contrast in flavor . save your time and experience and try elsewhere . wing stop or other local bars.

one of my all time favorite wing places. you gotta get the "boneless wings basket" w/ spicy cajun and spicy lemon pepper. for sides either waffle fries or sub it for mac n cheese! also great environment to come for a beer and to watch your favorite sports.

sooo disappointing!. i used to work in the mckinney area and frequented the allen plucker's 2 to 3 times per week. the food and service were always great. i was very excited when i heard that a new plucker's store would be opening in plano, since i live at park & preston, but the experience has just never been up to par. i have been left sitting for ridiculous amounts of time waiting for service. i've had orders come out wrong multiple times. i've been served cold food multiple times. unfortunately it seems as though teenagers are left to run the joint by themselves most of the time.
last night my wife and i got there at about 9:30. we stood at the door for a good 7 or 8 minutes before anybody even looked at us. when the hostess finally strolled over to greet us, she acted like we were just a pain in her butt. since there was a big birthday party going on inside, we asked if we could sit on the patio, to which she replied with her sour puss attitude that nobody was working out there and left it at that. nobody seemed to be working anywhere for that matter. so, she walked us down in a corner booth where we sat for 10 to 15 minutes thoroughly neglected. none of the servers would even look at us. apparently nobody wanted another table. they were quite happy to just hang out there by the computer doing nothing. when i was finally pissed off enough to get up and leave, the kid that appeared to be the baby faced manager's only remark was "have you been helped?" i replied nope as i walked out the door. it's not a good idea for me to have a conversation when i'm that aggravated. i have an extensive background in bar and restaurant management on the east coast some years ago, and let me tell you that this place is downright pathetic. i will never be back. if you feel like contacting me, knock yourself out!

great service, good food, good experience. this was our first visit and were assigned an experienced, attentive, and polished waiter. probably one of the best i've had at any equitable restaurant. as new guests we got a serving of fried pickles at half-price that were very tasty. the batter was very crispy and rather than the normal pickle "chips" they were pickle "spears". the wife had the grilled chicken garden and loved it. going to a wing bar i had to have the wings in their in their version of a traditional "buffalo" type sauce. i had half buffalo "hot" and half buffalo "medium" sauce. the wings are not battered, which i prefer and were quite good. i'm no hot wing aficionado or a heat freak, but i know what i like and can stand the heat of most sauces. the "hot" was appropriately hot, much hotter than what other restaurants call hot, while the "medium" was just right for me and didn't overwhelm the taste, and were quite...tasty. not the very best wings i've had, but definitely better than average compared to the other chains i've visited. overall, it was one of our better experiences at a chain restaurant so i definitely plan to visit pluckers again and would gladly recommend this restaurant to others.
