pizza box

some of the best pizza in town comes from pizza box! the owner and his staff knock out orders in notimeflat using quality, fresh ingredients. though seating is limited, there is ample, free on-street parking for pick up and prompt delivery service any time.

the pizza menu has about 30 amazing combos on it; truly something for everyone! while their pizzas are my favorite, the pasta dishes are also delicious and big enough to serve two! great ny pizza joint minus the road trip :)

when it's good it's amazing... but not consistent. when it's good, it's the best pizza you'll ever have... but about a quarter of thetimeit's burned to a crisp. they could be pizza perfection (and sometimes they are), but they just can't seem to do it consistently. we almost always order the same thing and we've had about as many versions of it as the number of times we've ordered it. the size seems to vary tremendously as well. and seriously sweep out that oven-- our latest pizza was resting on an inch in diameter piece of charcoal. wish the owner wasn't so rude to the employees either... i know that supposedly makes it "authentic," but it's definitely a big turn off to me. but, when the stars align it's seriously amazing pizza. i guess that's why we keep ordering it; when it's good (and 3/4ths of thetimeit is), it's something you crave!

i actually found out about this place about three weeks ago through urbanspoon. i arrived here to work at naval hospital portsmouth and to my surprise i came in on a saturday and found out about their saturday special. i get a massive pizza every saturday now for around $11. i have only tried the pepperoni pizza and the spinach pizza. i'm only feeding myself so it lasts me a few days/meals and the pizza is just as good re-heated, i find that rare, it doesn't seem as greasy as other pizza either. this place is one of my alltimefavorite pizza places. the employees are quite friendly, and i'm pretty certain they know my name.

living social scam?. the pizza is fine but look out for trouble when the check comes. the server was clearly informed that there was a living social voucher being used who then said that the customer had to prove that he was "closing out" said voucher. when i found no way to do so on my smartphone app which had brought up the voucher, i was charged full price. i did get a call from the owner afterward but only got referred back to living social to deal with them. they couldn't help as they weren't called at thetimeof purchase. smells like a scam to me. though the pizza was good, the owner needs a course in customer relations. i'm not going back.

to all the haters. 1st i would like to say..yes ive been to a real pizza place in ny! maybe you havent! regardless of where, you should never feel like you dont want to go back to a place because of the bad attitude of the owner! and from reading, i can see others have experienced the same. regardless, everyone is intitled to write and say what they have experienced. sorry i think the pizza sucks and the customer service is bad, but it is what it is~!

will never go again. first i would like to say that i love portsmouth, and i love to try new places in portsmouth... the pizza box is nice inside, small but cozy. way too many selections, couldnt decide what i wanted the menu was too overwhelming. also over priced. finally when i decided and ordered my food, i was waiting and the owner of this place was yelling at one of the employees like he was insane. i love to dine out, but custumer service is what keeps a buisness going...and i had to wait a longtimefor my food and i was the only customer at that time. i will never ever go back to this place and spend 1 penny. somone who treats there employees this way infront of a customer is a big turn off....dont waste your time! bella pizza is sooooooo much better

just plain nice!. the people that run this place are so personal and friendly! the prices are great and the food is great! we ate in the restaurant and noticed they were using fresh herbs for the food. it doesn't get much better that that! i had a family function where there were about 30 people coming. they gave me a great price on the pizzas and had them ready at the exacttimethey promised. i appreciate the care they put into their food. my family wants to come back to portsmouth for that wonderful pizza. thank you pizza box for making me look good with the family :)

delicious pizza. we have eaten at pizza box twice. the firsttimewe dined in and had a classic pepperoni pizza and...it was delicious! the second time, last night, we ordered take-out and got "sam's best," which has garlic, light sauce and mozzarella cheese. it too was amazing! the slices are huge and the service was great!

ahhhhh, pizza!. well, i am from the north; near new haven, ct to be precise. there is no other pizza in the world like sally's or pepe's. (each having their own following - i prefer sally's). when i said good-bye to new england and hello to virginia, i had no idea i'd be saying good-bye to the best pizza in the country! alas, i tried various places, a very few were at least edible. but, when my husband ( who is also a transplant, but longtimeportsmouth resident) and i went into pizza box, just the aroma alone told me i had found pizza nirvana! indeed, the aroma did not lie - the pizza is, without a doubt, the best pizza down here.
