you must eat at pickles! whatever is listed on the chalkboard is a must have. the fruit that comes with your meal is real fruit. freshly sliced, cold and crisp never from a can. breakfast on saturdays is awesome.

fantastic!. if you're looking for something off the beaten path, with good, made from scratch cooking, this is the place! the atmosphere is rustic/country and the service is fantastic. the owners and staff are always there to make sure your experience is great. breakfasts are fabulous no matter what you get. we usually split one of the large, fresh baked cinnamon rolls with our breakfast. be prepaired to wait a little while. you can pass the time in the attached antique general store. the wait is worth it! lunches are great too. smaller portions but more than enough to fill you up. i have never been disapointed and love the daily specials.

i have eaten at pickles 3 or 4 times, but still waiting to be wowed. the one time the bleach solution was so strong after the table was wiped, i thought i was going to have to change tables. i smell like bleach the remainder of the day. the omelet that i had was cold and i could do better at home. wish i could write a positive review

wow!. i almost hate to write a review because i do not want this place to become so popular there is a long wait! the food here is amazing. the staff was kind and the general store was a step back in time. this is my new favorite place!

oh my, what a treat to eat at pickles. great food with excellent service. i've never ordered from the menu. instead, i go for the daily specials. today was a chicken rueben sandwich. it was very good.

it is worth the trip but be warned, there may be a wait to be seated. the restaurant is small, especially in the cooler weather since the outside seating area is closed.

the areas best kept secret!. nothing like an interesting gourmet breakfast. what a shocker given the location of pickles. worth the drive! our fav is the hot mess... big enough for two. the maple walnut french casserole is beyond good...but not on the regular menus. if you see bourbon chocolate cake... get it while you can and/or take a piece to go. service is spot on. if it's nice make sure to enjoy the outside porch area. be sure to check out the general store. the have quite a selection of candy brands from childhood....remember neccos?! not to mention simple glow soy candles that smell and burn great. enjoy the food and a fun experience in dunfee.

decadently delicious. according to our server, this special treat not always present on the dessert menu, earned its name in part due to the bourbon in the sauce. don't worry. the alcohol is cooked out if the topping. but expect a gargantuan 4" x 4" by almost 2 inch high treat swimming in sauce. it is so rich i guarantee you'll want to order this to share. the brilliant creator of this brownie's recipe added complexity to the rich bourbon by adding hints of (what tastes to me) vanilla and almond. oh, and lest my lips and togue deceive me, is that the slightest slow burn of cayenne i detect? fabulous!!!!!

shared half with a friend on my last visit. the portion of ham was generous... but would run the risk of being an average ham and cheese if not for the amazing homemade apple butter served on the side. it has a deep bite of cloves that goes so nicely with the ham they use. if you order this dandwich, i say the apple butter is a must!

ordered this as a panini sandwich on my last visit. the marinated steak tips were incredibly tender and complemented nicely by the provolone and garlic mayo. have to say this has been my favorite so far, though the turkey artichoke sandwich is a close second!

made with texas toast, a generously sized sandwich. topped with a nice helping of turkey and fresh spinach that are complemented by the flavors of provolone cheese and an herbed artichoke heart cream cheese. quite tasty and very reasonably priced. had three people rave about this particular menu item.

hours: t-f 10:30-2:30 sat 9-2 cash only!!!! breakfast and lunch served the entire time. write your name and number in your party on the eraser board if there's a wait (and there'll likely be a wait)! browse the antiques, locally crafted jams/cheeses and/or the tack supplies on the second floor. servers are consistently friendly and informative. the menu seems on the limited side, yet between their staple offerings and their ever-changing daily specials options, you'll have plenty to choose from. the wait is well worth it. so are the prices. you'll likely spend, at most, $9-15 per person, including what you contribute for tip. oh, and i highly recommend ordering sandwiches panini style: generously sized, cut in half, you and a friend could order two fifferent things and then share halves to try two flavors at once!

homemade, real food!. wonderful homemade soups and desserts! don't miss the peanut butter pie! we eat here for lunch frequently, and despite a few times when service was a little slow, it is a reliable destination for a tasty meal. the porky's revenge sandwich is a favorite!

outstanding!. driving down s800e off of us30, a person wonders just where, just what kind of place are they going to, taking others to some cafe, out in the middle of where? dunfee? pull into the parking lot just on the north side of the building, walk up the boardwalk, open the cranky door, and walk into a rustic building, appearing as if you've entered into a turn-of-the-century [1900's century that is] country store - and it is filled with all kinds of sweets and cooking stuff and other sweetness,,, and that is just the first floor - the second level has all kinds of horse-related clothings, saddles, boots, books, etc. quite the cool items, both levels - including fresh indiana maple syrup and tasty homemade caramels.

and then there is the cafe,,, quite the interesting place also - nine tables fill up a room, eclectic yet down-home comfortable. if the place is busy [which it normally is, per the hostess and a couple guests], get your name placed on a board until someones have vacated from the dining area or the outdoor seating area. order from the specials on the board or from a menu - and you can not go wrong with any selection. and if you need help, the very good friendly & helpful wait staff will guide and make suggestions.

the french toast casserole (on the sweet side - which in my book is a good thing!), the gravy, the mash, the beef tip sandwich, the soups, the triple-cheese sandwich, the salads,,, they are all very good to excellent - only slight negative was the beef tips were just a tad on the tough side; good flavour, but some where just a bit chewy. wash down with a wide selection of sodas, water, or home-made arnold palmer (mix of lemonade and ice tea), 'tis good. ordered a triple selection of desserts - get three slightly smaller cuts of three different pies or cakes, for the price of two... ordered the caramel cheesecake, strawberry pie, and chocolate peanut butter pie - all three excellent, esp. the latter two. great food (nothing fried, btw) and cool decor, and also the excellent service, definitely a worthwhile restaurant to frequent.
