the inside reminds me of a chevy’s, but a little more casual. somewhere between a taco bell or del taco and a chevy’s. you go to the cashier to order first and then you are allowed to sit down. that is an interesting way of doing things.

my wife and i looked for good mexican since we moved here from the central valley; picante was exactly what we needed. great place to go for homemade tortillas and anything mexican, great food!

great intro to california mexican food. i've eaten at picante twice and have had two excellent experiences! the first time, my wife and i came for dinner to break the fast on yom kippur. it was our first experience eating mexican food in california and it was awesome. the "cafeteria-style" ordering is unique, but the service is great and the food is delicious! the pictures i posted with this review show our order from our visit: salsa fresca and chips, vegetable tamales and enchiladas de la plaza. the enchiladas were so great, and the portions are big enough to take home some leftovers! i'd highly recommend this place.

home made mexican food. typical "home made" mexican food with no frills. the food is good, but just not special. i have been eating here once or twice a year since 1996. it's the same menu every time, (somewhat boring after a while). portions are large and now cost $10 - $12 with a drink. service is good and fast. the restaurant has ample seating with typical mexican music playing in the background.

i've been swayed. it took several visits, but the food has always been quality. my personal favorite is the all steak burrito. meat is excellent, and the portions are great.

just like mexico!. this place is a wonderful place for mexican food. it always reminds me of the taco stands in mexico city. yes, busy and noisy but then you know it is good. go hungry and enjoy each and every morsel!

noisy and overrated. that this and juan's seem to be "berkeley favorites" tells all you need to know about the state of mexican food in berkeley. very noisy, so great for kids. order from the counter. maybe a little more atmosphere than chevys.

i love the brunch and the soap azteca but the other menu items are subpar for the price.

no better place to eat with kids. favorite dishes are sopa azteca, sopa verde, carnitas tacos, the corn tortillas, the chocolate angel food cake, and the retried beans (not all at once). plus margaritas. also, love that they double check your to go order before you take it, and the one time in a hundred they made a mistake, they gave a comp meal. love them.

tasty. busy.. the parking on 6th can be difficult sometimes. usually a long line to order but it moves pretty quickly. when you get in, have someone scout and hold the table while you order. the burritos are fat, i like their black beans.

just like mexico. i love the food, fresh and authentic. love the environment. it's out in a remote area with lots of space for outdoor and indoor dinning. great for groups and service is great! it reminds me so much of mexico. i really enjoyed it.

not to mentioned they have a large range of mojitos and yummy drinks.

garden shade and guacamole. crisp, light tortillas, lovely salsas and garden seating. this place keeps me dreaming. i usually think of mexican food when i'm starving, but you just can't wolf down this food. arrive starving, and you'll still find yourself slowing down to savor each bite. their squash tamales are a scrumptious blending of textures and aroma.
