best way to cure a cold!. there is something special about a steaming hot bowl of vietnamese chicken soup, also known as the p6 at pho hoa. they truly have their broth down. there are several other pho restraunts in the area but their broth seems to be a bit too greasy for me. not to mention that phohoaputs the delicious quail eggs in theirs. yum!

favorite. let me just start by saying that i am 45. i fell in love with pho when i was 15 or so. there used to be this little chinese/vietnamese place on nw 23rd, i think next to hemi's pizza. anyway, we went there often, and always had the some waitress. she was friendly, and cute, and i was 15, and eager to impress. i remember thinking how old i looked. anyway, someone ordered a big bowl of pho, and when i asked her what it was, she told me, and i ordered it. since then, we (pho and i) have had a very passionate relationship.

enter present times..... there are only about 10,000 pho places to chose from here in okc, and this place is by far my favorite. i have tried many different soups, and pho thai (p16, i believe) is my usual. if they ever give my the chair, it will be in my last meal for certain.

pho lienhoais consistent (broth has always been the same, but once) and the service is faster than mconald's.

we love it!

best pho in okc!. my boyfriend and i have been visitors of phohoafor over 4 years now. we come biweekly to get our pho fix. the waitresses and waiters there know our order by heart and ask if we want the usual when we sit down. the service is quick and the food is quicker. everything is incredibly fresh and delicious! this is no five star and the staff will not wait on you hand and foot unless you request it. this is a fast pace spot with high traffic. if you need something don't be scared to flag them down. bring cash. they did just get an atm, but its pricey. get the pho thai and crispy egg rolls! they are my favorite!

great place to eat. having lived and worked in saigon, viet nam for 15+ years, i can say without qualification that the phở liênhoarestaurant on nw 23rd serves as good or better phở and/or hủ tiếu as any noodle enterprise in saigon or viet nam. it is a complete vietnamese experience to dine there.

oh my gosh. this restaurant was, by all accounts, the best choice we have made in a long while. i had the pho and my wife a marinated pork dish. both were absolutely delish. the service and wait staff were also great. (and we went during lunch--it was buzy!!) we will be back very soon. i know after eating at pho lienhoathat ordinary chinese buffet will not be sufficient any more!!

the only place for pho in okc. this is the only place i will ever go for pho from now on. my husband and i once made the mistake of trying a different, more upscale pho restaurant on north may ave and were so disappointed we went back to pho lienhoafor dinner. the pho is so much more flavorful, the service so much friendlier. i always order the p14 with an order of banh cam for dessert. the prices are decent -- my husband and i can both get full for about $14.

pho lien hoa... ...again.... i asked my vietnamese co-workers which pho restaurant they recommended as an alternative to pho lien hoa. they promptly recommended another establishment which my wife and i visited in short order... i can't recall the name of this second eatery (se corner of classen and 30th) , however it wasn't far from our usual..

the bottom line is that we both feel that pho lienhoais still the best that we have experienced thus far.

i've been told to try the #1 from the menu. i always get my #14 (rare brisket & steak), however will try the alternate suggestion next visit..

go pho lienhoa!

-----01 jul, 2011-----

my favorite -bar none-. i get the # 14, which is the rare steak and brisket soup. using plenty of the the dark beef sauce , and just a touch of the hot sauce ( sri racha ), this is the best soup around. i cram as many of the sprouts into the bowl as possible along with a few squeezes of fresh lime. dont forget about the leafy greens that need to be in your bowl as well. stir it all together for a few minutes and ~ voila ~ ..this soup cant be beat. the noodles are always top notch as well, not overcooked. i eat here as often as possible, escaping full each time for right around $7.00 at lunch. also, i feel very good for a day or two after eating here. its not only good but good for the bod. .. enjoy..

phocking amazing. i've been going to phohoaon 23rd st for a few years on and off with my best friend and have learned quite a bit. i never have to wait when i go there, the food is always amazing, and it tastes like they really put the effort into all their food. the smoothies are great, my favorite is avocado, but they're much better without the mushy tapioca beads.

pho 101 - the suzuki method. when i walk in pho hoa, i have flashbacks of college. i see four of us poor college students huddled around an extra large bowl of pho that cost around $7. i don't think i could not have survived college without pho.

if you have never experienced pho, a vietnamese soup with beef broth, rice noodles, and vegetables, phohoais a great place for you to start.

it can be intimidating to take the plunge and order your first bowl, especially if you are unfamiliar with se asian cuisine. part of the problem is all the questions that come to mind: what am i supposed to do with these bean sprouts, jalapenos, watercress, wedges of lime, and chinese basil? how am i supposed to pick them up with chopsticks? heck, how am i supposed to eat soup with chopsticks? what do i order? what is hoisen sauce, or this bottle of orange/red stuff? what is chinese basil anyway? why am i here?

a lot of these questions i never had to wrestle with, because in college the seniors would show the freshmen the ropes. perhaps you don't have a vietnamese friend to teach you. perhaps you don't have any friends who eat pho. no worries. phohoato the rescue.

the best part of this place is that it is full of natives, especially at lunch. spend 10 minutes watching folks eat. you will learn a lot. there are as many ways to eat a bowl of pho as there are bowls of pho. some piano teachers use the suzuki method in teaching, a method whereby the students mimic what the teacher does. this is what phohoaprovides. you can people watch and learn a lot.

a lot of americans are hesitant about tripe and tendon. that's ok. the p8 or p11 is a good place to start then, as rare steak, flank, and brisket are familiar to the usamerican palette.

the joy of phohoais the variety of their menu. in addition to their pho (beef rice noodle soup), they also offer pork clear noodle soup (hu tien), an egg noodle soup called mi (which i have never been a fan of), and also a pork udon noodle soup, which is excellent. when you start adding shrimp, squid, mussels, or bbq pork, the whole experience changes! it can be quite an adventure! the key is to have courage, step out, and experience the variety phohoaoffers.

cash only!

pho pho pho. i loved eating at phohoasince i was little and really liked how they used non-watered down soup base and larger amounts of everything. now they've jacked up the price about $2.50 more and cut corners everywhere. if they had kept the same quality, i wouldn't mind the price increase.

i always order 1 or 2. there really is no difference and it all taste the same anyway.

what i don't like: the smell. it sticks to your clothes like no other. you will smell like pho all day long.

another note: every wonder why, when they are clearing tables, that the guy is extremely careful and tries not to disturb the uneaten bean sprouts/vegetables? it's cause they reuse em and just give it a quick spritz of water.

enjoy! i still love this place though

the half-vietnamese side of me thanks me for eating here.. i grew up on pho lienhoa(phohoaback in the day), and it is the pho restaurant i measure all other pho by. my family is not from around okc originally, and when making trips up here to the city my mother (full viet) would always take us here for the best pho in town. this vietnamese noodle soup is a beautiful and tasty gift to the vietnamese from the french... and pho lienhoadoes it well. the broth is just perfect and like any true vietnamese i enjoy my pho with sriracha, hoisan sauce, lime, a ton of veggies, and rare beef (that cooks in the hot broth).
if you like pho, or vietnamese food at all, you need to try pho lien hao. if you don't believe me, my mother, or even the new york times (who found this jewel of a restaurant), than go by pho lienhoaand see for yourself. on any given sunday the restaurant can be found filled with vietnamese families from all around the city... maybe that'll convince you how good this place is.
