always agreatbreakfast stop. a calgary classic. greatservice, friendly staff. there can be waits but that's what happens at good places. get the chubby sausages. yum! family run and a better place to go to over the humpty and denny's of the world. nothing totally uniquely special, just honest good breakfast.

inconsistent food quality. we started going to phils as it was close to the hospice my mom was at. for awhile we had justgreatfood and since then it has seriously declined. the hashbrowns which are our favorite may or may not be cooked very well. some days it so overdone you can't eat it. toast comes out burnt and dry and the kids pancakes are either so over cooked the kids can't eat them or almost raw. i honestly worry that this resturant will go the way of banff's location. gone!! it might be a good thing if someone actually read some of these comments and looked into quality of food and consistency of the quality as well.

one more thing the last time we went our food was a disaster and we found out from wait staff that the cook showed up to work late and very hungover. his worked showed it and lucky we found out or we wouldn't even consider ever going back. we will wait a few months and give one more the manager time to sort some staffing and quality issues out if it doesn't change then sorry but we will go find other places to dine.

steady decline in food quality and 20% increase in price over the last year. i had been going to phil's for breakfast regularly for a couple of years. i was very happy with thegreatservice staff, the price was reasonable, and the food quality was good. the service staff are constantly kind, prompt and considerate. over the past six months there have been two separate price hikes which have added 20% to the cost of my standard order. as food costs and overheads rise, restaurants must raise their prices to maintain margins, however a 20% increase in less than a year seems excessive. in addition to the rising prices, the food quality which had been good to excellent over most of the previous year, has dropped at an alarming rate. specifically the shredded potato hash browns which used to be cooked to a crispy tasty golden brown have been burnt on the outside, and mush on the inside on my last several visits. i am currently reluctant to return, and i am looking for a new breakfast place.

phil’s restaurant on glenmore trail has always been a hot breakfast, brunch and lunch spot here in calgary. phil’s offers some of the best breakfast and brunch for the price, and is a top contender for my hungry business any day of the week. atmosphere – 8/10 service – 10/10 food – 8/10 atmosphere and service one thing i always love about phil’s restaurant on glenmore trail is how quickly they manage to seat you regardless of how busy it is. i have visited phil’s before on a sunday with a party of 10 and was seated in 10 minutes, making it agreatplace to go if you don’t have reservations. phi’s is also agreatfamily dining spot with kid’s menus and toddler seats. to top it all off, every server i’ve ever had at the restaurant are the best at what they do… no complaints whatsoever! our orders west coast omelette – $12.50 – onion marmalade, cream cheese, smoked sockeye salmon, grilled tomatoes topped with hollandaise sauce – i must say t

on the fence.... went with 9 friends for a brunch and they got us in quickly even though the restaurant was busy. drinks were kept filled and service was prompt. everyon'es food lookedgreatalthough i found the crepes to be lacking. the filling was basically non-existant i ordered the california crepe and i couldnt see or taste any granola next to the 2 slices of banana, strawberry and 1 slice of apple. a friend ordered the minced ham and chese and had the same issues. all of the other plates looked full though. if we ever go again i am not going to bother with the crepes i would rather go to cora's and get a large one filled with fresh fruit.

basic good food, cooked the way you want it. phil's has been around for a long time but i hadn't been there for years.

our family was craving a basic plate of eggs and accompaniments - nothing fancy...so we thought of phil's.

phil's did not disappoint. it was delightful to see that phil's takes their breakfasts seriously, having many variations on the basic breakfast plate. do you want your hash browns chunky or shredded? do you want brown or whole wheat toast? how would you like your eggs done? what would you like with your eggs, pork links or chubbies, chicken or turkey links? side or back bacon? would you like your poached eggs soft, medium or hard?

we joked with our server that we sure had to answer a lot of questions just to get our breakfasts. we could basically customize our plates any way we wanted...many things are also offered as additional sides.

everything was cooked just right - or should i say eggsactly as we ordered! the table was outfitted with a selection of jams and jellies and three kinds of syrup to go with phil's signature pancakes. also a nice touch for a breakfast place is our own carafe of coffee at the table. it's so nice not to have to wait for someone to refill your coffee.

the only negative i must add is that the ambient noise in the side of the restaurant we were in was deafening..there wasn't any music playing, but the acoustics in there are made miserable with many hard surface walls. the sound of the table chatter bounces around but not much gets absorbed. so we found ourselves shouting just to hear each other across our table. it's like being in a traffic jam - you don't like it - but realize you are part of the problem.

phil's is nevertheless agreatplace for family dining - good basic food cooked the way you want it and at a still decent price.
