excellent, with a catch. first, i have to say that we tried two separate sauces at penne pomodoro (the arrabbiata and the pomodoro e basilico) and they were incredible. these were two of the best italian tomato sauces i have had. that being said, i still give this place a negative review. the tomato bruschetta was average, the pasta was above average, but nothing overly exciting, the balsamic vinegar was lower quality, our waiter plainly forgot to include the chicken on my pasta, the turkey meatball was terrible, and the regular meatball was average at best as well. however, probably the main reason i was not impressed with this place is due to the lack of quantity in their food. one order of pasta was roughly the equivalent of a lunch portion anywhere else, which is clearly not going to work for hungry people at dinner. so as stated in the title, the food is excellent, but with a catch.

by feedmedallas september 12, 2011 breakfast brunch dinner italian mimosas for the past year and half, i have spent almost every saturday at penne pomodoro.  $1 mimosas and great service are just two of the specialities at this neighborhood italian restaurant.  there is always a lively crowd and the food never disappoints. tim, our favorite waiter, knows exactly what we want as soon as we walk in the door.  he immediately brings us our coffee, antipasta (calamari, hummus and salad) and predicts our orders before we even look at the menu. if you are wanting breakfast, lunch or dinner, the options are endless.  you can make your own pasta bowl, build your own pizza or pick your own specialized omelet.  but don’t forget the off the menu items that are a must order: if you are looking for pasta (get the pink sauce and always get the hummus! penne has some of the best hummus in town with a special blend of garlic and lemon accompanied by the fluffiest pita bread you could possibly imagine.

ate there for brunch today. service was excellent, food excellent. going to a different, non chain restaurant was an enjoyable, new experience that set a good tone for the day. we will be back and i will recommend to others. the only thing that could be done for improvement is the mural by the booths (where the mural meets the table) could be cleaned. we definitely will be back. excellent place with great employees and management.

great food. i really like penne pmodoro, great for when i want something hearty, like really good ravioli :) yum!

rich is always willing to work with us and our needs , big party or small. he sellects great wine and helps out with my food allergy. risotto is great.
