i came to this cafe mid week for lunch. we sat outside in the sun, which was nice. it was rather busy, but we were able to secure a table easily. service was friendly and prompt. huge delicious variety of food on the menu - it was hard to choose. i had the fish tacos, which was fresh and tasty. good value too for $16.

i had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised the fish burgers, nachos and zucchini feta fritters were good, generous servings. the ice coffee was perfect balance. pricing was good considering the offerings.

best coffee today on my way to penguin island. i also had the chicken and brie bagel and my friend had salt and pepper squid both were so delicious. the menu is amazing and seems really fresh. love the look of this place too very funky. looks like the locals love it as its dog friendly right near the dog beach and beautiful shoalwater bay! love love love it will be back for sure!

pity this is the only cafe around pre-penguin island day tripping. the food is very average and you're probably better off bringing a picnic. i ordered the chicken foccacia with cheese and avocado. there were not enough ingredients to fill the large bread roll. it wasn't very appetising. coffee was a little weak for my liking. i did like the cute coffee cups and distance to the pier though.

we only found out when we bought tickets to penguin island that there was no food for sale on the island so with only 5 minutes to spare we quickly bought 4 chicken blt's. the bread was so dry and inedible. the filling was sparse and for $12.50 per roll we felt incredibly ripped off. we had to just try and eat the filling as we had no other alternative. very disappointed as we had overseas guests with us.

penguin island is situated 45 minutes drive south of perth in the beautiful shoalwater bay, rockingham. it is accessible by a 5 minute ferry across the bay. the ferry departs on the hour every hour from 9am to 3pm and returns to the mainland every 10 minutes past the hour with the last ferry returning at 4pm. unlimited ferry transfers throughout the day costs $14 for everybody over the age of 3. there is a large free car park situated next to the rockingham wild encounters ticket office. the star attraction of the island is the little penguin - the smallest species of penguin in the world! they are also known as fairy penguins. the island and its marine park is also home to many other wildlife including wild dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans and over 50 species of sea birds. there are approximately 1000 pairs of little penguins that nest on the island over the winter period. during the rest

slice of coffee heaven!. i'm a cafe slut from way back and worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years starting in the kitchen sink to opening and running cafes and restaurants, before starting a free restaurant guide displaying wellington's finest restaurants in nz so i've visited alot of restaurants and cafes.

so i'm in safety bay and stumbled across what use to be a kiosk when we first arrived in w.a. is now the makings of a great cafe in rockingham! the coffee was a blessing from above! sandwiches, packed with goodies, good black-board selections and fish & chips cost $13.50! counter staff willing to go above and beyond for their customers! finally a place where i can go and have a cuppa, read the local paper, chat with the locals while being spoilt from the lovey girls behind the counter. yes the prices can get up there if you're doing a trip to the island with your family but at $15.00 for a crammed packed panini and the best coffee in rockingham! worth it, worth it, worth it!! too many times, no... every time i've gone to get coffee from fremantle to mandurah, i might as well have thrown $5.00 in the bin! no other coffee comes close to benita, tara and rosie's coffee in the area!! well worth the 20 minute drive for my slice of heaven and recommended to all.

give yourself time if you are going to the island. if you are going to pengos during high tourist season, be prepared for a long wait.
the adult menu is worth it, but the children's burgers - you may as well get them a mcdonald's burger. i'm sure they use a cheap meat pattie for the children's menu.
the quality of the food depends on who is in the kitchen.
the coffee is great and they seem to be bringing in healthier lunch choices.
bring a hat, suncream and extra jacket. it was really windy when we were last there and there's not much shaded seating.

iced coffee and stuff.. the mocha was very good and the iced chocolate (that my friend had) was very good too so they have got their drinks sorted out. it is a pity about the service though it was busy and they didn't have enough staff to handle it. so the service (or lack of it) lets them down. my friend says it is a pity that there is no inside sitting area as when it is windy everything except our drinks blows off the table. we had an awesome love bite to eat and it was good too. so they have got their food and drinks sorted it is a pity about the location and the service though. if they somehow managed to turn the 'shop' around it would be better and they (i think) should employ more staff in the busy bits, so the service is better. at least they can employ more staff reasonably easyilby. please forgive my spelling i used to work for the police but i got run-over at work, and i am learning to walk and talk again! i think i can think ok though and i want to go back to work but that is a fair way off. my physcologist (yes i have one of those) gave me the address of urban spoon to write things in, so i am writing. mainly about coffee as my wife usually makes my dinner. i would rate pengo's cafe and burger bar as could be better (the service and how the building is built is letting them down). if the service was better and you could get out of the wind they would be on a winner.

nice alternative to usual fast food. the burgers are delicious and made on real bread. the selection from the counter is also something you'd find in an inner city cafe. coffees are fantastic and their beer batter chips are usually excellent. too many flies in the warmer weather and wish they had a better drinks selection. the juices are so expensive they may as well try and stock some of the better brands.

pengo's did it again. had a chocolate milkshake. perfect consistency and just enough flavouring. also had a cheeky 'cheeky chicken' burger. bun was a bit tough but maybe that's the rocko way and i'm a little bit soft. aioli, chilli jam and avo ontop of the chicken was an absolute treat. 7/10

come for the penguins, stay for the pengo's. penguins are cute and fluffy and so are the wonderful staff at pengo's. they are ever so welcoming to their near-island habitat. pengo's has sealed this day as the best god damn day in my life. pengo's 4 life

jeff & norma. wife and i rode along the waterfront and thought we would try a new venue. bad choice. if i had wanted pieces of rubber i would have gone to clarks. the scrambled eggs were terrible. the small shortcut bits of bacon an extra $4,00. flat white coffee in a plastic cup $3.70. as some else said, most of their trade would be tourists so no problems. all service is from the counter, no table service at all and if you do not clear your own table the seagulls have a ball by the way if you don't ask for butter you won't get any.

breakfast way overpriced. great coffee
toast was more like bread with no butter, food cold and broken egg yolks.
you dont even get your food delivered to your table, plastic knives and forks added to the whole experience! would not recommend eating here other than coffee!
