pauley's

one of our regular stopping points. my group gets down to athens once a year, and pauley's is a go-to location for agooddinner. their crepes are generous, thin, and flavorful: the lott, which i had on this trip, was a mite too salty, but the cured meats can do that. the beer list is long with fine brews and service is efficient and attentive.

since this fall the food here has really improved. i used to only come for the very solid beer selection (27 or so taps, and a wide variety of bottles). however over the summer they have completely changed the kitchen set-up. i can vouch for their previous crepes' gummy-ness. however since the summer the crepes do not have this issue. these are now asgoodas any of the ones i had in paris. the sandwiches, however, are my go too, and are also quiet good.

dont know what their understanding of a crepe is but my understanding of a crepe is a soft thin golden layer of pastry. what i got was a hard as a rock layer of pastry. it got soft once i let the thing sit for thirty min but imo thats not a crepe. or even agoodone. flavors are there but they need to learn how to make a proper crepe

disappointing!. read and heardgoodthings about pauly's. to be ran by a chef it was a joke. was loud with bartenders for waiters-waitresses. only had one menu at the table and had to get another for my wife myself. the chef was there but both my wife's crap-crape and chicken did not taste freshly made. the salad was ok but again the dressing was not fresh. my dish on the other hand was good. a dessert crape with ice cream, caramel, and whipped cream. but the waitress did not tell me so i payed for fruit and did not get it. if you want to waste $16.00 plus tip its the place for you.

okay.. the crepes are so-so. it's not awful but it's notgoodeither. i found the crepe itself (not the filling) tough and chewy. don't come in expecting your traditional crepe fillings but they do offer some interesting flavors like the buffalo chicken and turkey/cranberry. the crepe suzette is completely mislabeled as being made with lemon and sugar (it's supposed to be made with caramel, orange zest, and flambeed with grand marnier most of the time).

what really impressed me was their extensive selection of beers. samples are available upon request. if you somehow try all of their beers, you'll be forever immortalized in athens with a picture on the hall of fame. an impressive feat to say the least.

while the food is so-so in quality and taste, it's cheap (in comparison to the portion) and pauley's has a great beer selection. a popular place to sober up or chill with a drink no doubt.
