pane vino on the river

good food, bad service. honestly i would keep the chef and fire the rest of the staff. when we first walked in the bartender was eating food right at the bar. our busser was more attentive than our waiter who was very aloof and slow to wait on our table. there were maybe five other tables in the restaurant and we were there for two hours (i mean its nice to have a relaxing unrushed meal but it was a bit much). as we left the restaurant we were cut off by the hostess passing a plastic cup of wine to another employee to have a taste, which is just inappropriate if you ask me. again, the food wasgoodbut i do have to say that the "add a lobster tail" feature, at the price of $37 when a full rack of lamb meal is $30, is a bit skeptic, i understand that market rate can be pricy during certain times of the year but there has to be a upcharge there i mean come on panne vino, you didnt seem busy enough to drive away traffic with your poor staff and elevated prices, just saying.

my friend eby friedman knew that i needed an italian food fix, so he took me to pane vino. it's located in downtown rochester in an old building that has been elegantly renovated and furnished. the atmosphere is great and the service is very gracious and generous. we started with some great sautéed calamari. the tomato sauce included some olives that gave it a wonderful tang. the dish was light enough to make a perfect appetizer. for my main course, i selected the veal saltimbocca, something i haven't had for awhile. it was also superb. the sauce was savory but light. the side vegetables were hearty and tender. eby reported that his lobster in cream sauce was outstanding. we also tried the pasta. it was light and had the perfect texture. the sauce wasgoodbut it didn't have quite the pizzaz of the other dishes. for dessert, i selected the crème brulee, which was perfectly prepared with a crispy crust and an eggy, creamy center. eby enjoyed the waiter's recommendation for the cream che

good food, nice presentation, great bar!. this is agoodplace to go for dinner if you're not into big portions. the food is all about taste and presentation! it is very good, wait staff is decent, also a great place to go for a glass of wine and some relaxing live music on a thurs night!
