gorgeous restaurant - needs updated menu and energy. beautiful setting, very attentive staff. we had high hopes after 10+ years away...it would seem the restaurant is resting on its status and location. we went with wine by the glass because our entrees would be so different...the selection was not great...the wine list as a whole seemed to focus on very high end wines that were reasonably priced for a restaurant, and grocery store wines that were very high priced, even for a restaurant. the menu seemed very limited (which gave hopes for it being fresh). we shared the kung pao calamari as an appetizer, and it wasn't bad...nothing to write home about, but not a terribly good treatment of calamari...she had the fillet and i had the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp. the fillet had great flavor, and the potato pancakes were delicious, but well done doesn't equal burnt, and they plated it with the charred side down...they knew. the jumbo prawns were indeed jumbo, nice to see that, but the crab stuffing (and likely the prawns) had obviously been frozen...while the prawns were cooked nicely, they were flavorless, and i only wish the stuffing was. the stringy, fishy, crab stuffing inedible. we almost left without desert, but really wanted to end the evening on something nice...the salted caramel banana split delivered, amazing...delicious, but...really, that's not what we came here for. if we want to pay a lot for a great view and excellent seafood...we'll go to salty's.
