josé andrés and oyamel’s head chef, joe raffa, have done an excellent job developing an innovative mexican restaurant menu.

in from minnesota and a local friend recommended this place. guac and all of the dishes were great. the waiter had fantastic recommendations that we normally would never have tried. we will go again.

delicious and fun. it is expensive so you need to get over that part because experience is too fun to pass up. the point of this place to is order multiple dishes throughout your meal for variety and sampling fun. the small portions keeps you from filling up too fast.

think of this tapas style similar to dim sum. you sample here, taste something awesome there and keep your meal going as long as your stomach and wallet lets you.

i highly recommend the fresh fried churros with chocolate sauce at the end of your meal! also one of their bigger dishes!

and then we moved on to strawberry avocado mimosas…..these were amazing.  sounds weird with the avocado… but trust me…. it was awesomesauce.  i had two…. and if they were free could have probably spent the rest of the afternoon sipping on them.

i didn't want to like this because i was born in nm and live in az. but the food is simply sublime. fantastic chilaquiles, pork tacos, fruit salad, and ceviche. even the chips and salsa were terrific. and the fresh fruit drinks!

we were most excited about the pork belly tacos. unfortunately, the pork belly was dry. the dish was saved by the surprisingly complex combination of the pineapple and cilantro. i’m usually indifferent to cilantro but i gathered up all of the leaves that fell onto my plate and piled them into the taco.

another excellent mezze place. don't go there too hungry unless you want to blow some dough. very flavorful, interesting variety, nice service.

we were seated in the back left area of the dining room with brightly colored mythical winged creatures hanging from the wall and near a large portrait of a luchador and his family. the dining area was already busy and coupled with the upbeat music made for a very energ

a+. if you’re craving mexican for brunch, head to oyamel for authentic comida mexicana with a twist. from the traditional dinner cuisine to the egg dishes like huevos rancheros we were hooked. start with the signature mimosas and end with the churros, then roll yourself home for a siesta.

jose andre's oyamel brings antojitos or the little dishes from the streets of mexico to dc's ever-expanding fine dining scene in penn quarter. this bustling, vibrant, and loud restaurant is yet another tough dc reservation to score. but if you are patient, and can handle a wait at the cramped bar area (made much easier with a potent, margarita in hand), you will be rewarded with the best mexican food in the area. we began with the queso fundido topped with chorizo, which is flambã©ed with tequila and served with hot hand-made tortillas. after that, there were so many possibilities. from a delicious take on black refried beans stuffed with cheese to a tamale verde with shredded chicken, eac
