thisplaceis an institution, but it hasn't let standards slip since it started about a decade ago. the piles of salad in the window completely live up to expectations and it's refreshing to have vegetables take centre stage (although the meat and fish are also wonderful). a firm favourite.

lovely selection of salad and light main courses. i normally go for 2 salads and a main which is filling enough for me. my personal favourite are the roasted aubergine and mixed peppers salad. their breads are also lovely so it's worth ordering a selection of mixed bread if you come with some friends. theplaceis a bit small so it's not always that easy to get a seat and be prepared to be seated in the long table and share with other people.

the cakes always look very enticing in the window. having been put off for quite some time by the 'no reservation' tag (yet another restaurant with this most unfriendly policy) i finally went in for lunch with a friend. we had to wait for available seating and was given seating on a shared table which we agreed to, as having a table to ourselves would have meant a further 30 minute wait. theplacewas full on a friday lunch time and we were seated elbow to elbow in between other patrons. there is no chance of having any conversation at all, it was dreadfully noisy and uncomfortable, much like eating in a crowded canteen but with everyone squished together. we ordered the fillet of beef with two salads at £14.20.roast aubergine and roast pepper salads were our picks. unfortunately, cold salads in winter do not work at all and my tastebuds were so unexcited and dulled that i could not taste much or perhaps it's the horrible din in the restaurant. we ate our cold lunch with great haste and without much of a conversation. frankly,i couldn't wait to get out and get myself into a warm, cosy coffeeshop elsewhere so did not bother to order any of the cakes that i have always loved looking at by the window.
it's more of a summer eatingplacethis and definitely not for the winter cold.i was not enamoured.

i’ve never quite understood people who say they don’t like vegetables. i mean, there are so many, surely, there are a few that you actually enjoy eating, right?

but this sort of debate no longer matter as i’ve now found the bestplacefor picky eaters to fall in love with vegetables (and for veggie lovers to have the best lunch ever!)!!

and don't even get me started on the cakes...

oneplacei’ve always had on my to-eat bucket list was ottolenghi, a very well-known branch of eateries that serves mediterranean and middle-eastern inspired cuisine, and i finally had the chance to visit in september. although the prices are a little bit steep for what they serve (mainly salads), the food was fresh and vibrantly flavourful, and it’s definitely aplacei’d like to return to for brunch someday!

the menu is quite simple- there are a selection of salads and main courses and you can pick and select what you’d like to eat (either 3 or 4 salads or 2 salads/3 salads with a main- obviously the prices are different). i’m not entirely sure how regularly the menu changes but it’s slightly different from the menu they have up on their website.

i decided to go for 3 salads- the roasted aubergine, butterbean hummus and roasted saffron cauliflower. they were all very delicious and packed with flavours, spices and textures- sweet, sour, tangy, chewy, crispy- you have it all! my personal favourite was probably the cauliflower, which was both crunchy and sweet and went very well with the hummus.

desserts were also delicious- i particularly liked the fig cake which was utterly decadent and moist, and came with a sweet raspberry centre. the blueberry and lemon cake was also nice but the texture was more dry- i prefer something more akin to a lemon drizzle cake instead.

overall it was a lovely meal!

i'm a huge fan of yotam ottolenghi's cookbooks, and i finally got to eat at a few of his different restaurants in london over the summer.  it was such a treat for me.  i've been drooling over his recipes for years, wondering if my bastardized versions hold a candle to the real deal.   my favorite ottolenghi meal started at his flagshipplacearound 4 pm.  we came in at an odd time, hoping to beat the crush, and we ordered off the lunch menu.  it was great, but his more ambitious dishes, the ones i was really excited about, are only available at dinner. what's an ottolenghi superfan to do?   well, obviously, just keep going!  eat lunch, drink a bottle of wine, eat dessert, then eat another full dinner when the menu finally switches over.  an ottolenghi marathon.   we staggered out of there about five hours after we came in, stuffed, drunk, and loving the expressions on the waiters' faces when we finally rolled off our barstools.  it was a fantastic day.  i paid my respects by choosing a

now that i’m back in london and school hasn’t started yet, i’ve been trying to stuff in as many good meals as possible before plunging into my final year of uni. oneplacei’ve always had on my to-eat bucket list was ottolenghi, a very well-known branch of eateries that serves mediterranean and middle-eastern inspired cuisine. although the prices are a little bit steep for what they serve (mainly salads), the food was fresh and vibrantly flavourful, and it’s definitely aplacei’d like to return to for brunch someday! although their islington branch is known as their “flagship” location, it’s actually a very packed, small restaurant and there were queues the entire time we ate there- and it was a monday afternoon! i can’t imagine how busy thisplacemust get on weekends. the menu is quite simple- there are a selection of salads and main courses and you can pick and select what you’d like to eat (either 3 or 4 salads or 2 salads/3 salads with a main- obviously the prices are different).

the food at thisplaceis awesome, especially the cakes and salads but a rather poor service or i should say a confused one. some days these these people offer a pretty efficient service but it is the other days when they are rude and slow that makes me a little hesitant to go to thisplaceagain. i have mainly encountered the confused and slow staff, thus i just feel a little put off with it’s service.

ottolenghi happens to possess a variety of cuisines prepared in their own style which is quite different and exciting. if you happen to be a regular at ottolenghi then you'd know about the ottolenghi touch in their dishes. adequate amount of spices. price has always been a constraint though but i would recommend thisplacefor the food they have to offer and the taste especially the ottolenghi touch.

i really loved the ambiance here , they have done some pretty good stuff with the place. the staff was very nice and welcoming too , we were always greeted very politely with a soft voice.
our dishes came very early and i really liked their speed for that.
i had rich black coffee too and it was amazing, you must try this.
thisplaceis highly recommended by me.

i thoroughly enjoyed the food here as did the others with me. the items on the menu were rather fresh and inventive. and to top it all presented so beautifully. my personal favorites would be the eggplant dish, the tuna and the desserts. the food had some great flavors. the decor of theplaceis done in mostly white. the service was par excellence and the waiter serving us was amazing. the other server wasn't as good as him though.

you'll have to book in advance but it is worth the wait. the food thisplacehas to offer looks amazing and tastes even better. there was a small group of us, so we ordered almost every dish on the menu, and then shared it among ourselves. it was a memorable evening and we booked a return visit then an there! great service, good vibe, but don't expect to keep your table for too long, as they have specific settings for that.
