we tried the stressless sunday 5 course meal which wasgoodbut not overly exceptional. for $70 per person, i expected more pazazz.

the portions were quite small, and some dishes as previously mentioned lacked the wow factor which was expected. the dishes were still however, quite tasty.

in addition to this, the service was absolutely wonderful, views were beautiful and the atmosphere was great. we came here for a family member's birthday celebration, and the waiters did a lovely job bringing out the dessert whilst joyfully singing happy birthday.

i may possibly come back here for a casual lunch during the day to bask in the beautiful ambiance and views.

i went to ormeggio on a sparking autumn day for a birthday lunch with my boyfriend. i couldn't be happier. gorgeous location, beautiful food and great wait staff. there was a table of 6 senior citizens nearby, one of whom was in a wheel chair, obviously out for a special and rare lunch out and our waiter was so attentive to them, cutting up one old lady's meal into bite sized pieces for her and taking suchgoodcare of them. he even wheeled her out and made sure she got in her cab safely. all done with class and aplomb. we loved our alacarte meal and the wine was amazing. we have paid a lot more for a lot less in sydney. this place does not just trade on location but is the real deal. can't wait to go back

may 21, 2015 jacq leave a comment when the sydney dining scene changes so quickly, it’s easy to get so caught up in chasing the latest shiny new restaurant that you forget about the ones that have stood the test of time. alessandro pavoni has been serving up elegant italian food for 6 years at ormeggio, and has achieved two hats in the sydney morning heraldgoodfood guide for the past 3 years. ormeggio is situated on the water at the spit bridge, making it a picturesque location for an early sunday dinner. we’re indulging in ormeggio’s stressless sunday dinner, which includes 5 courses of the chef’s choosing for the princely sum for $69pp. it was kind of nice not having to make choices from a menu and let the chefs do the thinking for you – very stressless indeed! ormeggio bakery organic warm sourdough, homemade whipped ricotta we start off with a house-baked sourdough. the bread arrives warm, with a chewy centre and beautiful dark crust, and a light whipped ricotta to spread onto the bread. this is some seriouslygoodbread so when we’re asked if we would like another serve, we can’t say no! biodynamic veal tonnato the first course is the biodynamic veal tonnato which is ormeggio’s take on the classic vitello tonnato. instead of cooked veal, the veal is served raw with a delicious tuna cream, shiso and pine nuts with delicate slices of radish draped over it. the raw meat is a bit confronting for some of my dining companions, but it’s a dish that is enjoyed by everyone on the table. agnolotti filled with lamb, yoghurt, mint, sumac the next course is a pasta dish of agnolotti. the little parcels of pasta are filled with roasted and shredded lamb, and paired with a yoghurt sauce, mint oil and a scattering of sumac crumbs. it’s a nice combination of punchy and refreshing flavours and even tour resident non-lamb eater enjoys it. charcoal wagyu beef, cauliflower, kale, black garlic i’m excited to see that wagyu beef has made it to the menu tonight, and tonight we’re tre

this has become my family's special occasion restaurant, so i've eaten their degustation menu various times over a period of about 6 years. it's generally pretty impressive, ranging fromgoodto out-of-this-world. certainly one of sydney's most creative takes on contemporary italian food

our experience at ormeggio for their stressless sunday dinner was great. it was fun not knowing ahead of time what the menu was and we were impressed with most dishes (my photos really don't do them justice). the cod baccala was my personal favourite, i could've eaten two bowls of that. the rich, strong flavors were complemented by the jumble of textures from the creamy baccala to the crunchy croutons. dessert was the other highlight. the yuzu sorbet provided a refreshing contrast to the chocolate crumbs and it was a perfect ending to a delicious meal. we also had a delicate pork terrine, a pressed brick of soft pulled lamb (a tad overseasoned for me) and a risotto which was the weakest of the series (it wasn't bad, just not memorable). ormeggio clearly has agoodhandle on the food front but it was the service that elevated the experience. our waiters were consummate professionals, blending the right amount of humour and conversation without being stuffy. with staff like them, it's easy see why ormeggio draws the crowds.

we tried the little trip to italy tasting menu. high light of the night was the cod, i really liked that one, different layers of flavors. my husband liked the beef tartare, kingfish taco very much. only thing i think that can be improved was that some of the dishes were a little bit too salty, eg. cappuccino soup and one stuffed pasta dish. service wasgoodtoo. great fine dining experience.

why worry about monday when you can have a stressless sunday? that's the premise at ormeggio at the spit, where you can have a six course dinner for $79. amazing value for a two hatted restaurant. the beautiful view of mosman bay is not bad either. the menu changes each week, depending on what seasonal produce is on offer. we started with some sourdough and whipped ricotta with a sprinkling of chives. it'sgoodquality sourdough, served warm and the whipped ricotta was a great alternative to butter.

chef allesandro pavoni has consistently offered modern italian culinary dishes which still echo the best of the northern regions of italy.  his base of creativity and culinary delight is also iconic, near the spit bridge, in one of lower north shore sydney's most coveted spots, blessed by panoramic scenery, easy access from the city centre and yet offering diners a wonderful refuge from city life.i could see the vehicular traffic across the spit bridge from our table.    my group of three  was pretty looking forward to an evening of a surprise menu offering, willingly open to what the chef had in mind, whim and seasonal produce  - instead of being subject to a regularly repeated menu.   it was a five course affair, a starter, two mains and closed by two dessert items - the stressless sunday dinner!the greet staff set the engaging tone, and before very course dish, we were explained to in gusto and detail as to what we were about to discover, saviour and experience.   i must say it was not a degustation, with more than ample servings of each offering.  i absolutely loved the prawn tartare, garnished by parsley oil, presented in a white plate which displayed an exquisite placing of ingredients.  at the other end of the spectrum for us that evening was the risotto flavoured with pumpkin, highlighted by parmesan and graced with balsamic vinegar  - in this instance the risotto itself had a harder texture than i appreciated.   apart from that, we also had king george whiting, granita with lemoncelli and a sweet dessert utilising ricotta.    the organic sourdough was terrific as an opener - the bagna cauda - accompanied by an anchovy based dip.lighting in the restaurant was heavily subdued which can contribute to the ambiance  - here we were, huddled around our sole table lamp, and the scene is repeated across the sizeable dining area.    i did not feel as if i am placed on planks above water (ormeggio refers to moorings in italiano ) - and the washrooms are a delight, with careful and thoughtful touches of luxury and accessory.  i must say it was not easy for first timers to find the way to the restaurant entrance, as currently there is much renovation work surrounding the ormeggio,   once inside, we are embraced by vistas of the marinas, sydney middle harbour and pearl bay.    tables are tastefully separated by agoodmeasure of personal space and this is appreciated.   as the evening wore on to close the weekend, more and more diners turned up as we commenced our visit early on a winter's evening when sunset was just after 5pm,  but it had indeed been a relatively welcoming warm night.sommelier jeremy croft directs the wine list at the ormeggio, with choices that take a diner through the various wine growing regions of italy, a rather unique experience.the ormeggio visited is located at the d'albora marinas, the spit, mosman nsw, with paid parking available on the same side of the marinas.   opening hours are from 6pm to 10pm on wednesdays; from 12 noon to 3pm and from 6pm to 10pm on thursdays and fridays; from 12 noon to 3pm and from 530pm to 10pm on saturdays; and from 12 noon to 3pm and from 6pm to 10pm on sundays.closed on mondays and tuesdays.contact +61 2 9969 4088my impressions of the ormeggio at the spit bridge, mosman nsw:ambiance:  4 out of 5

i picked the set menu for lunch and my experience was absolutely wonderful. the place looked very simple but warm and casual. it made me feel very relaxed and right at home. not too fancy and too uptight. the ambience is very relaxing.

the food is very italian, in agoodway that is. one of my favorite is their squid ink pasta and the beef tartare. the beef tartare is placed on a sea shell like plate and the cutting is diced perfectly. the squid ink is one of the best squid ink i've ever had in sydney. that one is a pasta to remember indeed. the service was lovely and i got an e-mail to become a vip birthday member. i am very satisfied with everything ormeggio has to offer.

we came here a week after mother's day on saturday for a large family lunch and enjoyed the 8 course "trip through italy" degustation with matching wines ($195 per person). while this wasn't the best fine dining restaurant i've been to, and while the view wasn't spectacular and of the harbour bridge or the opera house, it was quite good. i'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a fancy but relaxed atmosphere, with not too much noise and good, different tasting and interesting looking food. be warned though, you always have to book probably at least 2 weeks in advance if you want to come here on a sunday because it is always, always booked out.

the food is good, albeit not amazing. however, the effort and thought put into crafting these recipes makes them both unique and very, very beautiful. the courses were all light but by the end of it i was satisfied, not stuffed. my favourite part of the meal was this interesting looking green soup that i thought i'd hate, but was actually delicious - it's a shame there wasn't more of it haha.

the staff are also wonderful - they explain every course, what's in it, the story behind it and the town in italy the inspiration originated from.

while i probably wouldn't come here again (i don't think that entire meal was worth the price), this was agoodexperience and i'll put it under the heading of: nice fine dining restaurants you might want to experience once.

ormeggio is a 2 hat restaurant located just before the spit bridge in mosman. it's been around for a while and the head chef alessandro pavoni is pretty well known, having appeared on masterchef and other cooking shows. the great thing about ormeggio is that it's prettygoodvalue for money given its 2 hat status. on sunday's they do an awesome 5 course set menu called the 'stressless sunday dinner' which has 5 courses pre-selected by the chefs and costs $69 per person (or $129 for matching wines). whipped ricotta with homemade sourdough -  rustic sourdough, crunchy crust on the outside but soft and warm on the inside, this went so well with the ricotta that we actually ordered another plate of this bread. ocean trout - having not eaten at a fine dining establishment in quite some time, i'd forgotten how different the presentation and taste of the dishes can be. this trout dish brought it all back to me. such attention to detail in the plating with such delicate flavours. the balance between the fresh trout and the crunch of the tostada shards cut by the punch of the horseradish dollops. doesn't look like much to the naked eye, but it was a mouthwatering experience for the tastebuds. spaghetti carbonara - a modern twist on the classic carbonara. a twirl of spaghetti cooked al dente, with a rich cheesey sauce topped with a handful of fried lardons. mmmmmm, so simple but soooo good. beef cheeks - these braised beef cheeks in red wine jus was literally melt in the mouth goodness. with additional texture from the kale, baby corn and broccolini, this was a tasty main course. coconut crumb, gelato jelly - i'm not a big fan of desserts, but this was was super refreshing for a hot summer's night. carrot cake - ormeggi

ormeggio has gained the prestigious two chef hats in the sydney morning herald'sgoodfood guide 2015 and has been a hatted restaurant since opening in 2009. with such a standing, it placed ormeggio in the same league as tetsuya...if you are seeking to impress without breaking the bank, this is probably it.

since opening in 2009, ormeggio has gained themselves two chef hats in the sydney morning herald’sgoodfood guide 2015 and it’s about time i visit this mystical land that they call “stressless sunday dinner” in one of mosman bay. it’s natural to hype up what you think $69 for 5 courses will be like in your imagination, but know that it’s probably the most cheapest meal i’ve been at by a hatted italian restaurant. think more “great gatsby” entrance when every dish arrives at your table...
